PW Marine has been serving mariners for more than 100 years and prides itself on its customer service. The family business is part of Waterfront Properties Ltd., which dates back to 1844 and which includes the Waterfront Marina and gas station, Miles Market, and Harry’s Bar and Restaurant. Company president is William Cox. “William’s grandfather was Sir John Cox and the company has been handed down from generation to generation,” said Alan Brooks, PW Marine’s general manager. PW Marine sells everything you need on the water: Rope; paint; oils; lubricants; filters; nuts, bolts and screws; electrical components; barbecues;

It also has a 24-hour marina service, with rental berths at the Waterfront and catering provided by Miles Market and Harry’s Bar and Restaurant. “We like to think we are a one-stop shop which caters for the needs of the boating public,” said Mr Brooks. PW Marine has 7,000 square foot of retail space, containing up to 20,000 items, including parts. Mr Brooks said: “We like to think we give good customer service. If we haven’t got an item we will try to source it on the Internet or telephone another company that might have it. “If we can’t get the product we will point the customer in the direction

Exhilarating It is not just the reassuringly smooth sound the doors make as they close or the body-hugging front bucket seats that make this a machine extra special. It is the complete package that this vehicle offers that is most impressive. The new A-Class is not an A-Class in terms of Bermuda standards, it slots

Stepping into a Mercedes B200 is a little bit like stepping into a luxury, leatherclad time machine. This dazzling machine, which only arrived in Bermuda last month, feels like it is from the future. It is decked out from bumper to trunk with all kinds of state-of-the art features and accessories. But,being at the cutting edge of vehicle technology has done nothing to dampen its style, form or performance. In fact you would be hardpressed to find any fault with this new Mercedes at Prestige Autos Ltd. It is an H-Class vehicle when it comes to licensing

And this is further accentuated by the incredibly comfortable buckets seats that seem to mould themselves to your back. And talking of seats, the driver’s seat is quite an innovation itself. It is electronically adjustable thanks to a small console in the door frame — and you can have plenty of fun moving the seat forward, backwards, up and down, as well as change the driving angle, all at the simple press of a button. Like its brother, the new B200, the A-Class does not have a handbrake down by your left knee. Instead the right paddle on the steering wheel can take you from ‘drive’ to ‘neutral’ and ‘reverse’ with a quick flick. There are no less than five chrome coloured air conditioning vents up front, but there are also a couple of vents in the back to keep the backseat passengers cool too.

The central dash is dominated by a computer screen that relays stereo details when you are moving forward, but doubles as a backup camera complete with grid-square to guide you backwards into a parking space. This is not just an adultonly vehicle — the Isofix child seat adaptors in the back show that the A-Class caters for all the family. There is slightly less space in the back compared with the B200 — but the lower, sloping roof gives you a more Formula One feel. The 18-inch AMG fivespoke light-alloy wheels are an inch bigger than the B200 and give you a little extra control on the turns. Despite the more facing appearance of the A-Class there is still ample room in the trunk for all your household goods, as well as good storage space throughout the vehicle itself. Back and front electric windows come as standard, as do electric fold-in mirrors. And the windscreen wipers are automatically activated when the sensors detect rain. The environmentallyfriendly Ecosystem turns the engine off when you come to a stop at traffic lights or in queues, saving you on fuel. In fact if you were to think of any accessory you

The leather steering wheel has a handful of little buttons to give you quick and easy access to the Bluetooth option, as well as the six CD change stereo system. To your right, in the doorframe, is the control panel for the four electric windows. The small gear lever is found where you would normally find the indicator paddle. There’s no spare wheel with this vehicle as the runflat tyres will allow you to keep driving after you get a puncture for a short period of time. And just to finish off the package there is a small breakdown toolbox in the trunk, as well as a first aid kit. All in all this is a cracking machine that will be loved, cherished and enjoyed by anyone lucky enough to be able to buy one. ■

It comes back to life as soon as you put your foot on the accelerator, but is designed to save on fuel consumption and be a little
bit more environmentallyfriendly. This four-door car comes with ‘run-flat tyres’ as well as alloys, so it’s safe to run them for a short period of time even after you have a puncture. There is no spare wheel in the back. Instead you will find a first-aid box and a basic tool kit to deal with breakdowns. The mini-SUV big on power and safety SUPPLIED BY BERMUDA MOTORS Ford calls the EcoSport a “new breed of SUV”. The mini-sports utility vehicle (SUV) — due to arrive in Bermuda in September — will provide a mid-sized option for families looking for space at a reasonable price.
Comfort Slightly shorter than most full-sized SUVs, the EcoSport qualifies as a Class-G vehicle with TCD and will have an expected cost of $34,000-$36,000. Built in Brazil, the EcoSport has been very successful in South America where it has sold 700,000 models since 2004. A second generation

The 1 litre, 3-cylinder turbo-charged EcoBoost engine uses up to 20 per cent less fuel than a regular 1.6 litre, but is just as powerful, with full torque at 1,500rpm. With 200 mm of ground clearance and high allround visibility, the EcoSport feels like a fullsized SUV from the inside too. A bit of old school Italian flair has arrived in Bermuda. The Ligero 50cc moped, manufactured by PGO of Taiwan, has been a big hit since its arrival last month. Riders love its authentic Mediterranean look as well its weight, which makes it easy to manoeuvre and popular among female commuters.

They have the option of kick start or ignition, and come with a retro display of your speed, mileage and fuel. You can fit your helmet under the seat, which is also where the fuel cap is located. World-class sail maker Ocean Sails is now the exclusive dealer of Raymarine on the island. Ocean Electronics, the electronics arm of the company, has secured a dealership with the global brand. Suzanne Hollis, co-owner of Ocean Sails Custom Canvas & Upholstery / Doyle Bermuda with husband Steven, said: “Raymarine are the world leaders in marine electronics, continually advancing technology in the field and constantly winning awards for innovation. “For years our transient yachts would pull into Bermuda needing a marine electronics service, repairs or replacement instruments. “With the limited service available and the lack of

We then fly in to fit the work. “My husband is one of the last generations of the old-time sail makers and is highly sought after for his craftsmanship.” Ocean Sails also creates canvas architecture, such as awnings, for commercial clients. Family SUV scores on space and price with a price tag of around $36,000. It is the first vehicle to be imported under Bermuda Motors’ new deal with Chinese manufacturer Chery. Spacious, with a sleek, rounded compact design by Italian firm Pininfarina, the 4-cylinder, 2 litre four-speed automatic model will tick a lot of boxes for many people.
SUPPLIED BY BERMUDA MOTORS The new Chery Tiggo will fill a major gap in the Bermuda market for a midprice, full-size SUV. With new versions of popular models such as the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tuscon now too big to meet Bermuda’s size restrictions, the last two years have seen the sub-$40,000 TCD H-Class market plunge from 285 cars sold in 2009 to zero in 2012. “There is a gaping hole in the market,” said Michael Butler, Bermuda Motors general manager. “While the economy has certainly forced some people to look for smaller, cheaper alternatives, many families still want an SUV and there simply hasn’t been one available in that

Staff at Continental Motors are preparing themselves for a very special delivery his summer. Bosses at the dealership hope the new Peugeot 2008 crossover will make its first appearance on the island in August. If preparations go according to plan, the car manufacturer should start building the new model for Bermuda in June, and it will be here a couple of months later. The crossover is set to be an F-Class vehicle at TCD, but a final price is still yet to be officially released.

Jeff Stirling, of Continental Motors, told Ignition! the car should be in the $40,000 to $45,000 range. He described the new import as “a truly beautiful car”. “Peugeot has also made huge advances in improving the dependability and reliability of each new model they have launched,” he said. “The 207 was so much better than the 206, and the 208, which the 2008 is based on, is that much better again.” This new Peugeot boasts a unique cockpit that is centered on the small steering wheel. It combines the robustness of an SUV with the space and comfort of a lux-

The Nissan March has proved such a popular vehicle in Bermuda that stock has run dry at HWP. But the good news is that another batch of this practical and economical car is on its way to the island. The March SR is one of the least expensive Japanese mid-size cars on the market, at $24,995, and fits into the C-Class bracket at TCD. Although the 2013 model, which arrives in June, is identical to the 2012 model in many ways, HWP bosses are expecting this fuel-efficient car to be a big seller. Boat owners can save hundreds of dollars and gain added peace of mind through the Atlantic Mooring Maintenance Programme. Andrew and Denis Owen, owners of Atlantic Mooring Maintenance Ltd. (AMML), have developed the service to cut costs for people in the recession.
Storms By paying a fixed monthly bank direct debit, boat owners are covered for labour, maintenance and parts (with the exception of weights and ground chains). Most insurance companies require an annual or two-year mooring check, but the Atlantic Mooring Maintenance Programme does six-monthly checks, with a detailed report for

“Once a client signs up, we check the mooring using measuring equipment such as calipers to monitor wear,” said Mr Owen. “If the chain fails our standards we will take it out and change the parts. “Clients can be confident
that their mooring is always maintained. So if a storm blows up in the middle of the night, you don’t have to worry about your boat breaking off. “There are no hidden costs or fees. We take care of everything, all the labour and parts. “If someone decides to leave the programme we just require three months’ notice.
