DAVID NOONAN: STAGECRAFT
Stagecraft brings together silkscreen collages on fabric, tapestries and film. Noonan repurposes found photographic images from his extensive personal image archive to create images which are ambiguous, often with a focus on a solitary haunting figure. Black and white images appropriated from disparate sources including magazines relating to avant-garde theatre, film, design, architecture, dance & music are combined to create new compositions. Art Gallery of Ballarat 40 Lydiard St Nth

PITCHA MAKIN FELLAS: JOIN THE CLUB
A playful series of trading-card-style portraits parodies the hypermasculine world of footy and criticises power imbalances that stem from the corporatisation of the game. They also remind us that the game we know today is believed to have originated from a traditional game played by the First Australians across Victoria – ‘Marngrook’ comes from the language of the Gunditjmara people and means ‘game ball’. The Pitcha Makin Fellas are an art collective based in Ballarat, Victoria. They are Koorie artists and writers whose ancestries hail from different language groups across Victoria. Art Gallery of Ballarat 40 Lydiard St Nth

MADELEINE CRUISE & RUBY PILVEN: THE GOLDEN PANTOMIME For Ballarat-based artists Madeleine Cruise and Ruby Pilven, the process of creating artworks is as important as the artworks themselves. Pilven’s porcelain and stoneware ceramic pieces are based on historical and imagined forms that act as storytellers and props from domestic and natural spaces. Cruise’s interior paintings feature tableware and decorative objects that celebrate everyday rituals. The artists have also made a series of collaborative works with the common theme of still life as spectacle. Art Gallery of Ballarat 40 Lydiard St Nth
UNTIL 21 FEB
FEDERATION UNIVERSITY 150TH ANNIVERSARY TRAIL
The story of Federation University Australia goes back to the establishment of the School of Mines and Industries Ballarat in 1870. In 1880, the School started offering classes in engineering and mechanical drawing and in 1907 the art department was further enhanced by amalgamation with the Art Gallery’s art school and the art school in Ballarat East to form the Ballarat Technical Art School. Follow the Federation University 150th Anniversary Trail through the Gallery to see a selection of work by some of the artists associated with the Arts Academy. DAVID FRAZER: ANOTHER NIGHT ON EARTH
Castlemaine artist David Frazer is renowned for his wood engravings and linocuts which explore the intricacies of the human condition. His finely detailed prints, marked by wit and careful observation of human interaction, capture moments of hope, loss and connection. This exhibition features prints made over the past two decades. Also included are new wood engravings made as a tribute to his distant relative, artist and printmaker Lionel Lindsay of the famous artistic Lindsay family of Creswick. Frazer’s prints are shown alongside a small selection of engravings by Lindsay from the Gallery collection. Art Gallery of Ballarat 40 Lydiard St Nth
