May, June and July are National Safety Months by Bob Blaisse

Summer brings great warmer weather and even greater expectation of activities picking up as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we increase summer activities keeping health safety still in mind, we’ll find more people outside, more cars on the road and more opportunities that call us to remain mindful of safety in even more ways during our summer activities. The month of May was National Water Safety Month. That mindfulness should be with us all summer. This month of June is National Firearm Safety Month, and next month, launching early with 4th of July celebrations, is, of course, National Fireworks Safety Month. National Firearm Safety Month is a good time for all firearm owners to recommit to firearm safety year-round, following the call of the National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) to “Own It? Respect It. Secure It.” And the NSSF shows how to do just that, through its resources available to firearm owners in its safety videos such as “Introduction to Range Safety and Etiquette,” printed resources such as “Firearms Responsibility in the Home,” and the infographic “Safe Storage Options for Your Lifestyle,” available at the NSSF website: www.NSSF.org. Because this month is National Firearm Safety Month, I reached out to Shawn Ask about OUR NEW Cleaning & Surface Protection!

Brown, Owner of Stars & Stripes Tactical and one of our hometown Sponsors, to find out what his message would be to our readers. “For anyone Shawn Brown, who has owned and Owner of Stars handled guns safely for & Stripes Tactical years, we must always be mindful of the youngest among us who do not yet understand proper storage and handling of firearms,” said Shawn. “It’s our responsibility to teach and practice practical gun safety techniques all year long,” he added, with mention that his customers must commit to store firearms responsibly, and how that does not mean hiding a gun in a closet, drawer or under a car seat. “Firearms should be stored in a locked safe, gun vault or storage case that must be inaccessible to children,” advised Shawn. He also stated that gun-locking devices, which make firearms inoperable, should be used in addition to locked storage of disassembled firearm parts, and ammunition must always be stored in a locked location separate from firearms.
