WinterFest 2016 Raises ÂŁ2467.00 for First Love Foundation

Our Winter Fair on the 14th December raised a fantastic ÂŁ1,320.99 for the Tower Hamlets Foodbank run by First Love Foundation. There was a variety of stalls led by both staff and students. We had vibrant food stalls serving food from across the globe; Jamaican jerk chicken, Turkish Delight and some Bengali treats being the highlight. We invited local primary schools to host their own stalls this year with the help of our Student Ambassadors. They ran the popular penalty shoot out as well as stalls providing a plethora of sweet treats. The Sixth Form ran eight stalls this year to help them to complete a unit of their BTEC qualification; Running Your Own Small Business. They were given a budget and had to plan how to start their own small business and the Winter Fair was the perfect opportunity to try out their enterprises on potential customers. Students sold their own artwork, baked cakes, and made gifts. The event ended with the legendary raffle with prizes that included a mountain bike, Amazon Fires, speakers and virtual reality sets. All in all the event was a huge success creating a fantastic buzz in the street for a great cause.

Foodbank Appeal

During November and December GSAS raised funds and food items for its annual Winterfest appeal. For the second year the appeal was in aid of Tower Hamlets Foodbank run by charity First Love Foundation. Thanks to generous donations from students, staff, parents and carers we collected a grand total of 872 food items in addition to the money raised. Once again our students were amazing, helping to collect, organise and count the food items, making the operation a huge success. We would like to say a big thank you to all our students, staff and parents/carers who helped to support local families in need. Your donations will help to make a real difference.

Oh yes they did!

On the 15th December GSAS staff took part in the annual staff pantomime. This year the show was Cinderella and it was full of fun, song and dance. Many thanks to the staff who, with very few chances to rehearse, put on a great show for students and colleagues. Thanks also to the audience who bought tickets to support our Tower Hamlets Foodbank appeal.

Winterfest Christmas Concert hits all the right notes!

On the 8th December as part of the Winterfest festivities GSAS put on a festive celebration of music featuring the GSAS Brass Band, Choir and String group. The evening was a big success with a programme of performances from our musical students who played to an appreciative audience. Well done to all of the students who worked hard to showcase our academy’s musical talent you deserve a huge round of applause!

Money, Money, Money!

On the 12th December GSAS hosted its third ‘Tea Time Talk’. This time saw us joined by a panel of financial experts from the worlds of asset management, forensic accounting and financial consultancy. Each panellist offered helpful and interesting insight into their daily lives, university experiences and A-level subject choices. Students were engaged and asked thoughtful questions, impressing the panellists enough for many to secure work experience opportunities at these top companies.

Year 8, you shall go to the ball!

On the 13th December GSAS Year 8 students were excited to perform their pantomime, Cinderella for and audience from Virginia Primary School and Columbia Primary School. The show was really entertaining and made everyone laugh - take a bow Year 8!
