Week Commencing: Monday, 23 May 2011
What a week Yet another action-packed seven days: in pictures. As always there is so much to write about and so little room on the page! To try and capture the mood from this plethora of events we thought it best to include plenty of photos instead. From the top- a group of talented BGTC performers jumped at the opportunity to perform on stage at the O2 Arena with music legend Rogers Walters from Pink Floyd. Admittedly our students are a little young to remember the 1970s prog rock era and so are a lot of our teachers. That said, they still seemed completely at home singing “We don’t need no education! Sorry Mr. Keary! From stage to track and field, our fantastic athletics team also put in a brilliant performance at the County Championships. A huge number of personal and team podium finishes was enough for us to take 3rd overall! Congratulations to those students that were also picked as part of the borough team. Last but not least BGTC had the largest number of representatives at the Shoreditch Citizens launch event last Thursday. Thank you to all the students and staff that volunteered their time and also took to the stage to heir their views and proudly represent the school in support of improving living standards within our community as part of the Citizens UK initiative. www.bgtc.org.uk/wordonthestreet
Ten “green” bottles
Tap into tap water. Sink, drink, think! We all know that it is important to drink plenty of water, especially with all the hot, dry weather we are having at the moment. Apologies if it now starts raining for weeks on end, I probably spoke too soon! Anyway, water is good for you - this much we know, but tap water is even better because it is good for you and good for the environment.
All the world’s a stage BBC on the look out for new talent in schools’ theatre competition “Off By Heart”.
Do you like to act? Do you like to perform? Do you literally think ‘all the world’s a stage’? If so, then Ms. Gill’s Theatre Society is for you! Auditions for the theatre group are taking place on Monday 23rd May, after school in Room 225 (Miss Blair’s room). Look out for posters around school and if you’re lucky you may even get a personal invitation. This is a fantastic opportunity for any students aged between 13 and 15 to develop their acting skills further, to go on theatre visits and to even perform on a west end stage! Auditions: Monday 23rd May 3.30 | Room 225
Drinking tap water instead of bottled water means that the water is fresh, it is locally sourced, doesn’t require any transport to get it here and doesn’t use bottle after bottle that we throw away. Not only is water good for your health (it is good for your skin and helps remove waste and toxins from your body) but it is also good for learning. Drinking plenty of water stops you from getting dehydrated that can seriously affect both your physical and mental performance at school. Research has shown that a 2% drop in water intake can cause up to a 20% drop in mental performance. Your body is 75% water, so keep refilling it! Water taps are located in both playgrounds for you to refill your BGTC bottles during break and lunch. Remember - sink, drink, think!
This week
Last week
This week’s puzzle is short but sweet...
So... which way is the bus travelling? Well, if I asked you to tell me what you cannot see in the picture, some of you might have said the door.
What word is pronounced differently when the first letter is capitalised?
Therefore, if you cannot see the door it must be on the other side and if it’s on the other side then the bus must be travelling to the right because you are viewing it from the other side of the road. Easy really!
aA As always, post your answers in a Voice Box or return them to Mr. Pedley.
