BGTC YPI Final Thursday 23 June 2011

Stick with it.

Technology Challenge Day Last week BGTC hosted a Technology Challenge Day to promote our students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Our teaching staff, joined by visiting tutors from Canterbury Christ Church and Teach First, ran a competition in which our Year 7 students competed to make the strongest and most reliable structures possible. Using the ingenious STIXX machines that transform a few sheets of standard newspaper into rods with the structural properties of bamboo, students were able to make substantial shelters out of paper. One student said "I had so much fun and my team's structure even stayed up! I wanted it to go on even longer so that we could make our shelter even better." The day was clearly a great success so look out for similar events in the near future.

Wonder wall.

New Artbeat mural brightens up the playground.

Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI)

To be honest, there’s no way you could have missed our fantastic new mural in the Key Stage 3 playground but be sure to have a really close look. There is so much brilliant detail, I see something new every time. Well done to all the students, staff and visiting artists that worked on the mural as part of the ever-growing Artbeat project. Also, look out for extra photos of our budding artists working on the mural at www.artbeatgallery.co.uk.

This week

Last week

This week we have a question about clocks.

Last week we wanted to know the name of the fourth child. Provided you didn’t fall into the oh so obvious ‘months of the year’ trap, the answer was clearly Mary. Read it again and you’ll see...

A sundial is a timepiece that has the fewest number of moving parts. Which timepiece has the most number of moving parts?

Mary’s mum has four children. The first child is called April. The second child is called May. The third is called June. What is the name of the fourth child?

As always, post your answers in a Voice Box or return them to Mr. Pedley.
