Summer of Learning. A festival of fun for all.

A massive congratulations, well done and thank you to all the staff, students and everyone else that helped make our Summer of Learning Festival such a success. We hope you all had loads of fun and learned something new along the way, like, what a quatrain is for example! A selection of photos from the R&J Day and The Big STEM Wind-Up are now online. Simply visit, www.bgtc.org.uk/solfest and follow the links. Check out the taster photos (right).

Charity begins at... school.

Hackney City Farm wins £3000 YPI donation. As part of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Finals featured in Word On The Street two weeks ago, Ezekial and Mbitazoma’s excellent presentation meant that their chosen charity, Hackney City Farm, won the £3000 prize money (see giant cheque above). The farm, just 5 minutes from the school, has been running for over 20 years now, giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming, right in the heart of the city. It gives children and adults the chance to get up close to a range of farmyard animals and to learn about where their food comes from and why that matters. If you haven’t been, you really should visit soon. It’s just up the road and great fun. They also sell organic and locally sourced vegetables and even have bee hives on the roof!

Don’t forget to log on and “like” us on Facebook. We have been online for less than a week and yet we have sailed past the 25 “likes” needed to get us our very own address: www.facebook.com/bgtc.org.uk

Dear diary. Ideas for next year’s Student Planners We want to know what you like and don’t like about your Student Planner this year. What works and what needs improving? Please take a couple of minutes as a tutor group to complete this online questionnaire (link also available on Students page of website). If you have any further ideas, please drop us a note in a Voice Box or let your Student Council Rep. know what you think so that it can be fed back at their meetings.

Read all about it! Newsletter archive in print and online. Look out for our new newsletter stand and archive in The Street, next to the L R C Re a d i n g A r e a . O u r w e e k l y n e w s l e t t e r, previously called The Chronicle, has been running for quite a few years now and we have issues dating back to 2006.

Run, row, ride. Race to Uganda Challenge

(update)

Thank you and well done to all the students and staff that have gone the distance this week, racing to Uganda! Our combined total (as of Wednesday) means we are closing in on the south coast of France but we still have a long, long way to go to Uganda, some 6000 kilometres away! Don’t forget that most importantly we are raising money for two very important charities so the more of you that can get involved or sponsor one another the better. Why not get your tutor group to sponsor your tutor or ask your tutor to sponsor you?

All of our newsletters can also be found on our website, www.bgtc.org.uk/ wordonthestreet.

To be or not to be in the school play? Auditions for Romeo & Juliet

OK, so this isn’t a quote from Romeo & Juliet!

Following on neatly from our Shakespearean drop-day, Ms. Gill will be holding auditions for our very own production of Romeo & Juliet. As part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, we’re looking for talented actors to tread the boards. Come along and join the fun. All years welcome.

Romeo & Juliet Auditions Friday 8 July | See Ms. Gill for further information.

Last week

For those that have seen the Channel 4 programme Countdown, here’s a conundrum! Simply rearrange the letters to make a 9 letter word.

How did you get on with last week’s number puzzle? We asked you to fill the blanks with the numbers 1 to 8 so that all the equations were true. Did you crack it? Here is the answer.

As always, post your answers in a Voice Box or return them to Mr. Pedley.
