Team Voice: Student Council Update.
The idea is simple. One page equals one mile. 24,000 miles later and we’ll be back in London! So, pledge your pages now (see how below).
As well as discussing and gathering feedback on whole-school issues such as the recent uniform consultation and the upcoming Diana Awards, our Student Council members (part of Team Voice) are here to address your comments, concerns and ideas on how we can make the school better.
Having made it all the way across Europe and Asia, we have now jumped the Bering Sea and are fast approaching Salt Lake City in North America.
This term, Team Voice has actioned the following items to help improve the range of activities and facilities available to you:
Students - complete your reading logs and pledge your pages during your tutor time reading every Monday morning.
Can Year 11 students have somewhere to work and revise in the lead up to their exams? Yes. Year 11 now have their very own Study Zone in Room 406. The room is equipped with PCs and is available every lunchtime to Year 11 students only.
Parents - email the title and author of the book you are reading along with your name and child’s name to: info@bethnalgreenacademy.co.uk Staff - pledge your pages by emailing the title and author of your book to: info@bethnalgreenacademy.co.uk Primary Schools / Community - we’d love for as many primary schools, community partners and local organisations to get involved too. Email your name, organisation, book title and author to: info@bethnalgreenacademy.co.uk Track our progress online with our interactive map. www.bethnalgreenacademy.co.uk/ratw
Strive and succeed. Headteacher’s Awards - February Congratulations to last month’s Headteacher’s Award winners Mohammed and Jasmin (7), Charlie and Alima (8), Sadia and Gamal (9), Robert and Kubra (10), and Sharmin and Shah (11). These certificates are awarded for a range of reasons from supporting the school as a volunteer to making rapid progress in class. We like to acknowledge our students’ efforts to show how every little action can help improve the school for everyone.
Look out for our new, Fairtrade cotton shopper bags. Students will be selling them along with a range of other Fairtrade items and snacks for Fairtrade fortnight next week. www.fairtrade.org.uk

We’d like more inter-form competitions. A. The P.E. department will be running a lunchtime football tournament very soon. The table tennis tables are very popular and not everyone gets to play. Could we divide them up fairly somehow? The table at the end of the KS3 playground is now for years 7, 8 and 9 girls only. This should help allow everyone the chance to have a game. Team Volunteering asked to take part in more charitable and national events. Over the past two weeks, Student Leaders and teachers have helped run events and competitions for Fairtrade Fortnight, World Book Day and International Women’s Day. Looking ahead - Red Nose Day, World Health Day and Walk to School Week are all fast approaching. Tell your teacher or tutor if you’d like to take part.

Wheelie Good! This is a great tutor time activity. How many words can you make from the letters in the wheel? The only rule is, each word must use the centre letter. Aim for 20 words and there is at least one, 9 letter word to be found!
