I am bereaved mother, in recovery (17yrs) from co-occurring alcohol/multi-drug addictions, trauma and mental health issues who also lost her concurrent disordered son to a fatal accidental Oxycontin overdose. I have become a provincial systems level advocate for mental health, addiction, trauma & bereavement reform thru lived experience/family advocacy, public speaking, writing, facilitating and peer work. Raising awareness, educating, promoting diversity, social inclusion and non-oppressive approaches to break down barriers and stigma to create safe dialogue and space is key to me. Engaging and exploring creative expression that embraces the holistic-WHOLE person approach to wellness and healing/recovery is also key to me. I STRONGLY believe that effective care and choice is a fundamental human right. Everyone deserves that opportunity. These are tough issues that need to be given voice so we can feel safe and be safe!! STOP the isolation, shame, stigma and barriers
