Welkom Bienvenue Welcome

NL Beste Beursschouwburg-bezoeker, Alles is onderhevig aan verandering: onze huid, de realiteit, onze gedachten en ook Beursschouwburg. Dat zal je geweten hebben als je door deze najaarsbrochure bladert of ons dit seizoen bezoekt. Neem je tijd en ontdek in dit boek wat er van oktober tot december op til staat. We gidsen je door een groot deel van het programma en bundelen het in verschillende disciplines. Wij bieden je een stevige brok muziek, theater, performance, film en video, hier en daar een goed debat afgewisseld met een gek feest. We geven jonge Brusselse experimenten een plaats naast internationale of gevestigde waarden. En liefst van al zit jij in de zaal. In het begin van dit culturele seizoen laten we Transformers op je los. Zo luidt de titel van het nieuwe focusprogramma (een programma waarin we een specifiek thema tot op het bot fileren) en zo gedragen de kunstenaars zich die van dit programma deel uitmaken. Met hun verbeelding gaan zij de realiteit, het lichaam, de stem, de ruimte te lijf. Maar er is meer dan Transformers alleen... Als je in december deze brochure uitgelezen hebt, ligt er groot nieuws op je te wachten. In het voorjaar van 2015 viert Beursschouwburg zijn 50e verjaardag! Markeer 5 februari 2015 in je agenda: er barst dan een zelden geziene feestelijkheid los. Ons motto: Beursschouwburg 50. Under construction since 1965. Tel est le titre de notre nouveau programme thématique, qui évoque aussi le rôle joué par les artistes qui le composent. You’ll have discovered that when thumbing through this autumn brochure or by visiting us this season. Take your time to browse through this booklet and discover what’s coming up between October and December. We’ll guide you through a large part of the programme and divide it into various disciplines. We’re offering a solid chunk of music, theatre, performance, film and video, spiced with spirited debate and peppered with a wild party. We provide Brussels avant-garde with a place alongside international or established names. And hopefully you’ll be right there in the hall. At the start of this cultural season Transformers will be heading your way at full tilt. That’s the name of the new focus programme (a programme in which we explore a specific topic down to its bare bones) and that’s the way the participating artists will be tackling it. Unleashing their imagination they’ll be tackling reality, body, voice, space head on. But there’s more than just Transformers… If you’ve read through this brochure in December, there’s some wonderful news awaiting you. In the spring of 2015 the Beursschouwburg will be celebrating its 50th anniversary! Mark 5th February 2015 in your diary: a celebration will be erupting, the like of which has rarely been seen before. Our motto is: Beursschouwburg 50. Under construction since 1965. 10 NL Verandering gaat dikwijls over de kracht om de realiteit naar je hand te zetten. De kunstenaars of Transformers in het focusprogramma doen dit met overgave: hun dromen opbouwen uit getransformeerde feiten. Dat maakt van kunst een terrein voor avontuur, maar net zozeer voor onzekerheid. Kunstenaars tonen in de beschermde omgeving van de schouwburg wat daarbuiten in de wereld zowat de enige constante is: alles is in verandering. Vandaag leef je in een monocultuur, morgen is de multicultuur een nieuw gegeven. Vandaag doe je alles analoog, morgen is digitaal de norm. Vandaag ben je man, morgen misschien een vrouw. Vandaag ligt de grens hier, morgen daar. De kunstenaars in dit focusprogramma transformeren het menselijk lichaam, de ruimte die ons omringt of vervormen de (virtuele) realiteit. Hoe kunnen we parameters verschuiven om nieuwe realiteiten te doen ontstaan? Op het eerste gezicht misschien onschuldige vormoefeningen, maar de kracht van deze Transformers ligt in hun geloof in de niet-politieke kracht van verandering. Tom Bonte In this focus-programme …

Transformers FR Le changement est souvent lié à la force de maîtriser la réalité. Les artistes, ou les Transformers, du programme focus le font avec fougue et conviction: construire des rêves à partir de faits transformés. L’art en devient un terrain d’aventures, mais aussi d’incertitudes. Dans l’environnement protégé du théâtre, ces artistes vous présentent ce qui est à peu de choses près la seule constante du monde extérieur : tout change constamment. Nous vivons aujourd’hui dans une monoculture, nous vivrons demain dans une multiculture. L’analogique d’aujourd’hui laissera sa place au numérique de demain. Vous êtes aujourd’hui un homme, vous serez peut-être demain une femme. La frontière est aujourd’hui ici, elle sera là demain. Les artistes de ce programme transforment le corps humain, l’espace qui nous entoure ou la réalité (virtuelle). Comment pouvons-nous déplacer les paramètres pour voir naître de nouvelles réalités? Même s’ils peuvent ressembler à des exercices de forme innocents, la force de ses Transformers réside dans leur foi en la force non politique du changement. Tom Bonte

11 EN Change is often concerned with the power to control reality. The artists or Transformers in the focus programme do this with dedication: building their dreams from transformed facts. That makes art an adventure domain, but equally one of uncertainty. In the protected environment of the theatre artists show what is happening outside in the world has just one constant: everything is changing. Today you’re living in a monoculture; tomorrow multiculture is the new norm. Today everything is analogue; tomorrow digital is the new standard. Today you’re a man, tomorrow maybe you’re a woman. Today the limit is here, tomorrow it’s over there. The artists in this focus programme transform the human body and the space around us or distort the (virtual) reality. How can we shift the parameters to create new realities? At first sight perhaps these are innocent shaping exercises, but the power of these Transformers lies in their belief in the non-political power of change. Tom Bonte

De thema’s in Dragging the Bone zijn zowel autobiografisch als universeel. Warlop vertrekt van de begrippen wilskracht, geestdrift en ambitie en observeert hoe die ons voortdrijven. Ze laat deze eerder immateriële processen stollen en samensmelten tot een sculpturaal geheel. Denk aan een reuzehandpalm, een ruimtetuig, een tunnel van gedachten, een gevangenis van de geest of een speeltuin van de ziel en het lijf. Als één van de pijlers binnen de artistieke werking stimuleert Beursschouwburg artistieke of dramaturgische publicaties. Je krijgt die tekst integraal overhandigd als je de voorstelling bezoekt. **** A woman walks into a bar. You expect her to crack another joke. “No, not you” she says, “certainly not you.” Miet and I look at each other — apparently she is puzzled too, her eyes are wet. “But this is what you always wanted, didn’t you?” I shrug my shoulder. “Oh no, not always” she says, “it is not about sentimentality of...” She is mustering something that looks like a word whose meaning has been lost at sea. “Why so deep then?” I wonder.

As one of the cornerstones within artistic collaboration, Beursschouwburg promotes artistic and theatrical publications. She is wearing discarded mascara and fresh gender, her voice is slender, it jumps to the next scene immediately: “The beauty of con-artist is that it can work in any medium” it proclaims. “It can delink the sound of an ice-cream truck from ice and cream and truck” I think silently “and bring it to the next level.” At the next level we find exactly what was there before: ice, cream, truck, gender, mascara, etc., but much deeper. “Why don’t you call it Solo Solo Solo then?” I ask Miet.

22 NL De Duitse designer en performancekunstenares Helena Dietrich zoekt uit wat de symboliek betekent die achter onze kledingstijl (en bij uitbreiding onze identiteit) schuilt. Ze confronteert ons met onze keuzes en vraagt zich af of die verankerd liggen in een collectief onderbewuste. Op welke wijze sturen culturele parameters onze verbeelding? In Becoming Lili ga je zelf aan de slag. Je verandert in een personage, bootst een levensstijl na, zwemmend of verdrinkend in een pool van referenties en herinneringen waar de grens tussen het zelf en de kopie vervaagt. Een videorelaas van dit project krijg je te zien tijdens Working Title Platform #8 (p.84–85).

De man tekent, schildert, fotografeert met wegwerpcamera’s, filmt, speelt noisemuziek, zingt, parodieert, produceert grammofoonplaten en cassettes, creëert kunstenaarsboeken en tijdschriften, maakt collages, heeft een radioprogramma op Radio Centraal in Antwerpen en archiveert zijn oeuvre in het overkoepelende label Ultra Eczema. In oktober en november krijgt Tyfus van ons carte blanche. Een hele zomer lang zal hij broeden op wat hij tijdens zijn eerste (!) solotentoonstelling in Brussel laat zien. Het staat sowieso vast dat het Beursschouwburg-gebouw en misschien zelfs de werknemers een enorme transformatie zullen ondergaan...

Cet homme dessine, peint, photographie avec des appareils jetables, filme, joue de noise music, chante, parodie, produit des vinyles pour gramophone et des cassettes, crée des livrets et des revues artistiques, réalise des collages, présente une émission radiophonique sur Radio Centraal à Anvers et archive son œuvre sous le label généraliste Ultra Eczema. En octobre et novembre, nous lui donnons carte blanche. Tout un été, Tyfus il couvera ce qu’il nous présentera lors de sa première (!) exposition solo à Bruxelles. Il est déjà pratiquement acquis que le bâtiment et le personnel du Beursschouwburg feront l’objet d’une transformation en profondeur…

In Wilson y Los Más Elegantes we follow the creation of a new musical trio that plays traditional Colombian music at family gatherings.
