Sometimes as speech therapists, we think that we have to be the master of everything. But in reality, there is something special about us as individuals that we can offer to our clients and there is something unique about the client's specific difficulty in terms of speech, language, and communication that you need to unravel. Being a specialist in a particular area such as stammering attracts a certain type of client. And that's why niching down is so important. Consider if you needed to go to the doctor for a back problem. Would you go to an optometrist or an eye specialist? Of course not.
So, think carefully about what gifts you have, and what you would like to offer to your clients. Then you need to consider what their specific pain points are and why they would come to you. Each client comes to you for a big problem and that is what we need to uncover. For example, I have had clients who have come to me with that fear of their child being delayed in their language, and just about start school. Once you sense the fear and their anxiety you can then advise them more specifically on how you would solve their big problem. Answer the questions on the next page very carefully
