Lighting

Avoid using your flash

o Instead, trying using natural light from windows. This will give your image a richer, brighter look & feel.

o Try using directional lighting from one side and using a bounce board or filler light for the other to create dynamic shadows.

o For even lighting, have the subject face the light.

o Even if your images are only being shared internally, you want them to stand out! Challenge yourself to find a fresh angle. This will help you establish and maintain a visual, distinctive style identity.

Layers

o While a simple, minimalistic look is always a nice idea, switch up your photos by adding layers.

o This means mixing in different textures and having a foreground and/or background.

o You’ll still have a subject in focus but layers add interest and guide the viewer to your subject.

o Some smart phones have portrait mode, which instantly adds layers, we’d recommend it for a high quality, professional look!

Candid Shots

o When taking images of your peers at an event or workshop, look out for those candid, relaxed shots.

o The more natural and less ‘staged’ the image, the more impactful.

o Please be mindful that not everyone likes to have their photo taken so, always seek consent beforehand.

Set Up

Service. Experience. Community 6

o If you’re hosting an event and have a delicious buffet on offer or you’ve ordered some giveaways to hand out at the end of the event, don’t be afraid of creating your own little set up to capture the perfect picture.

o Key is not to be shy…find a space, layout your items and play around with different set ups instead of opting for a quick shot of the buffet cart…everyone loves a good images of a nicely placed plate of food!
