Intervention is play-based as that is how children learn best. Parents are active participants in the planning and visits as they practice activities that will help their child develop new skills. The focus is on the maturing of motor, language, social, problem-solving and selfhelp skills. Children can be seen at home and in their childcare setting. Children may be followed by the Infant & Child Development Program until after their 2nd birthday. At that time, their consultant will discuss the need for ongoing supports with the parents including a referral to the Early Childhood Resource Program. Transition planning will begin, and the child will be transferred to the other program for continued intervention at 30 months of age. Early Childhood Resource can offer supports into school as needed. Both programs are voluntary, confidential, and provided at no cost.
