about us Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland (BGCP) has been serving youth since 1946. The Clubs are at the forefront of youth development, offering kids and families access to after-school and summer programs designed to help develop the qualities needed to achieve academic success, become responsible citizens and leaders, and live healthy lives.

Today, the Clubs have grown to operate six facilities located throughout the metropolitan area, along with school-based programs in partnership with the Parkrose, Reynolds and North Clackamas Districts.

Club youth acquire physical, social, technological, artistic and life skills. Clubs encourage members to develop a moral character while staff reinforce high expectations.

Clubs recognize and support young people’s self-worth and accomplishments. Staff members encourage youth and provide positive reinforcement and showcase young people’s achievements.

In addition to regular Club programs, kids can attend specialized summer day camps and dive into topics including the arts, sports leagues & fitness, science, exploration, leadership and more.

Sunrise Club is an early start to the day with safe and supervised fun!

BGCP offers specialized summer day camps that explore arts, sports leagues & fitness, science, exploration, leadership and more.

Summer is the best time to learn and keep an active mind!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland offer specialized teen camps at 4 sites: Blazers Club, Jack, Will & Rob Club, Inukai Family Club, and Meyer Memorial Club.

$20 per week*

Hours depend on Club site, but take place before drop-in, generally between 7:00 am and 9:00 am. This a great option for parents who work early!

Youth are welcome to drop in to our Clubs at any time during the afternoon for regular Club programming with a $5 annual membership. Member Hours are generally from noon to 5:30, but can vary depending on the Club.

Sunset Club

$5-$10 per week*

Sunset Club offers parents and kids an additional hour of supervision in the evening after drop-in hours. See individual club pages for specific hours and fees.

Our Summer Brain Gain program gives kids the chance to learn new things and explore new concepts outside of the classroom. Learn more on page 44.

Ninth grade counts

free with membership

Ninth Grade Count is a leadership and summer transition program for incoming 9th graders. The program offers teen leadership activities designed to develop or enhance communication skills, conflict and time management, basic youth development, and career preparation. Learn more on page 44.

Teens may also apply for an intensive leadership in training camp, which is offered exclusively at the Inukai and Jack, Will & Rob Clubs. More details at the bottom on pages 17 and 25.

Friday fundays free with camp

Friday Fundays are special activities or fieldtrips provided every Friday at most Club sites. Friday Fundays are included in the cost of any camp. Inquire at your local Club for more details.

Camps are open to youth in grades 1-12, as of Fall 2015.

Clothing & attire

Camps are structured to be active and can be messy. Children may spend time outdoors. Please consider this when choosing what to wear.

Please do not send children with toys, electronics or other valuables.

daily packing list

A water bottle, sunscreen and backpack are helpful items to send with your child. Please label each item with your child’s name.

arrival times

Please make sure your children are here at the camp start times as many camps go off-site. If your child arrives late you may be responsible for transporting them to their camp site. Unless your child is enrolled in Sunrise Club they should not arrive before 8:50am.

meals

Please note that not all sites provide meals and snacks for campers and Club members. BRING SNACK AND LUNCH for your child if they are attending a camp at Jack, Will & Rob Club or Meyer Memorial Club.

Closed toe shoes are required for all outdoor and sports camps.

Registrations and payment for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland’s Summer Camp programs are now online! Registration for our Summer programming will begin April 15th. Please visit our website at www.bgcportland.org to register and pay. All youth must be registered members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area in order to attend camps and member programming.

A Boys & Girls Club membership is just $5 per year.Visit your local Club facility and fill out a membership form to become a member.

Teen Leaders in Training summer institute The Inukai Club’s Teen Leaders in Training Program gives youth grades 7-12 a chance to participate in career development activities, discover the importance of community service, build customer service skills and have the opportunity to complete a Club apprenticeship.

east county programs Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland offers extended summer services at two elementary schools in the Parkrose and Reynolds School Districts. East County Club Sites are open to youth grades K-5 and are offered Monday-Friday from 8:30 am-1:00 pm. At these camps, youth will participate in academic activities, called Summer Brain Gain, designed to prevent summer learning loss and foster critical creative-thinking skills. After Summer Brain Gain, participants will choose an enrichment activity, which could include art activities, physical fitness activities, science or more! No registration required. Sack lunch is provided by U.S. Department of Agriculture lunch program. This is a great family activity, and parents are encouraged to attend with children. Older children may attend on their own with parental discretion.

academic programs summer brain gain Summer Brain Gain is offered at all Club sites for elementary kids daily from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, free of charge, in order to help curb summer learning loss! No sign up is required. Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland is commited to keeping kids’ brains active and engaged this summer! Summer Brain Gain gives kids the chance to have fun while learning through fun experiments, inventing, and exploring the world around them. Summer Brain Gain is 10 one-week modules with fun, themed activities for elementary school members. Each module takes a project-based learning approach to develop critical problem-solving and creative-thinking skills; youth engage in a process of learning through discovery, imaginative expression, group work and a final project or production.

ninth grade counts In partnership with All Hands Raised, the Boys & Girls Club of Portland Metropolitan Area will offer Ninth Grade Counts, a summer transition program for incoming 9th graders. Ninth Graders Count provides the support youth need to start high school on the right track. The program also offers a variety of teen leadership activities designed to develop or enhance skills like communication, conflict management, time management, basic youth development, money management, and career preparation. Ninth Grade Counts is a key component of the All Hands Raised Partnership effort to ensure the success of every child and youth from birth to career. Ninth Grade Counts will be available to teens at all Club sites during the summer. Inquire at your Club to learn how to get involved.
