● Little Stoke’s Nick Rugman comes under pressure from a Ridings High opponent defensive wall, which Preddy could only push out into the path of the former Winterbourne United and Tytherington Rocks striker, who drove the rebound home from six yards out. It certainly wasn’t Little Stoke’s half because, a minute later, slick combination work between Todd Brunt and John Rugman ended with Nick Rugman somehow failing to turn his brother’s delivery into a gaping net at the far post. Ridings High always knew the threat of a furious response from the visitors was strong, but they didn’t anticipate suffering a setback so soon into the second period. John Rugman fastened on to right-back Ross Taylor’s throw from the touchline and galloped into the right side of the penalty area, where he was upended by Ridings’ left-winger Cazley on the slide. Referee Simon Turner pointed to the spot and only three minutes had elapsed when Nick Rugman stroked the ball into the far corner of the net from 12 yards. Stoke were clearly boosted by their breakthrough and while their

passing and approach work was crisper and more enterprising, they did have to be on guard for the occasional moment of menace on the counter by their opponents, not least through Cazley, who seemed eager to atone for his error of judgement in conceding the penalty. Ridings went close to restoring their two-goal cushion midway through the period, when Nick Waters could only nod Cameron’s precision corner into the ground and straight at Preddy. Cazley then exchanged passes with Cameron and sped clean through towards goal, only to lash a fierce attempted finish against the legs of Preddy. While it was far from one-way traffic, Ridings were enjoying the better of the late opportunities and Cazley went close again with a dipping edge-of-the-box free-kick after substitute Marvin Castle had been felled 20 yards out. At the other end, Little Stoke winger Craig Lancastle and John Rugman both fired in wayward attempts. So, it was a surprise to all at the death when reliable centre-half

Steven Hurst launched a long free-kick over defenders’ heads and deep into opposition territory, where Nick Rugman was quick to seize on hesitancy and confusion among the Ridings High ranks and dart across the box before thrashing a magnificent left-foot shot past the despairing clutches of the diving Heath and into the net. Away celebrations were still in full cry as referee Turner blew for the final time, to the immense frustration of Ridings supremo Gary Dunn, who said: “It’s gutting to have victory taken away from you like that, because we felt we’d done enough. It was a great effort by the lads and we can take plenty of encouragement from that into the rest of the season.” Ridings High: Alex Heath; Kurtis Luke, Matt Woodman John Henson, Joe Bennett; Ryan Weeks, Jason Fletcher, Nick Waters, Daryl Cazley; Corey Wilson; Scott Cameron (Marvin Castle, 72). Other subs: Danny Wells, Daryl Purdy. Little Stoke: Luke Preddy; Ross Taylor, Matthew Price, Steven Hurst, Todd Brunt (Lawrence Foster, 73); John Rugman, Mike Willmott (Zac Cosgrove, 69), Ricky Evans, Craig Lancastle; Gary Cripps; Nick Rugman. Referee: Simon Turner.

LITTLE Stoke co-boss Matt Burnard was immensely relieved after watching his high-riding team salvage an unlikely point in breathtaking fashion. Trailing 2-1 with time all but up, the leaders looked beaten until Nick Rugman cottoned on to a lengthy punt into the home box and led opposition defenders a merry dance before gleefully lashing the ball into the net with the last kick of an enthralling encounter. Rugman had been the man to haul Little Stoke back into the match from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half as his side’s attempt at clawing back a two-goal half-time deficit began in ear nest. Burnard acknowledged: “You always have a chance of getting something when you have a player like Nick in your team. That was his tenth goal in his last five games, but we all know we got out of jail. We didn’t perform in the first half and gave ourselves an uphill struggle, although to be fair to the lads we did improve in the second half. “We always knew it would be a tough battle – we beat Ridings High 3-2 in a Bosley Cup semi-final last season, so we knew what to expect and we got it.” A scruffy opening contained precious little to unsettle either camp. Home winger Daryl Cazley struck a low, but relatively tame, shot straight into the arms of away keeper Luke Preddy, while home custodian Alex Heath was left relieved after crashing an attempted clearance against Stoke midfielder Gary Cripps, the ball corkscrewing alarmingly into the air and back towards his goal before the goalie reached up to collect on his line. The best of the opportunities was taken with aplomb on 26 minutes, when Corey Wilson lifted a perfect pass over Stoke’s stranded last defender and watched in delight as experienced marksman Scott Cameron sprinted forward unopposed before lobbing the onrushing keeper from just outside the penalty area. With co-manager Ricky Evans doing his best to orchestrate a Little Stoke recovery with some probing passes, the hosts were on the back foot for a bit. But the visitors were rocked again eight minutes from the interval when Ridings High and Cameron struck again. Cazley drilled a free-kick low through the

Mendip back at the top after seeing off Bitton’s challenge Premier Combination David Hughes epsport@b-nm.co.uk MENDIP United returned to the top of the Premier Division, thanks to a 3-0 away victory against lowly Bitton Reserves. The hosts had a player sent off in the first half, during which Mendip striker Jamie Godfrey hit the crossbar with a penalty. He atoned after the break by scoring the opener. Dean Maggs added the second, and Del Atiwell completed the tally in the closing stages. “We played well in the second half, but missed a few chances” said Mendip manager Richard O’Connor. AEK Boco lost goalkeeper Joe Pople, who was taken to hospital with a serious knee injury in the first half of a 2-1 defeat by Lebeq, who are also well in the hunt for honours. Nicky Martin fired Lebeq in front, Martin Nicholls equalised with a penalty for the visitors, whose hopes of taking home a point were ended by an opportunist effort from Dominic Holver. The only goal came midway through the first half when Bruce Clothier netted with a spectacular overhead shot in a period of supremacy for the visitors, but after the break it was the turn of Frampton to call the tune. “We dominated the first half, but had to defend in the second period,” said Seymour’s chairman Neale Coles. A 3-0 home success against Roman Glass St George Reserves put Eden

Grove in pole position above Bristol Manor Farm Reserves and Frampton on goal difference, with Aaron Taynton the hat-trick hero for the new leaders. Smith’s brace gives Whites an easy victory Simon Parkinson epsport@b-nm.co.uk ELIOT Smith was at the double as Westbury Park Foxes Whites Under-11s breezed to a 4-1 victory over brave Buccaneers Blacks, who gave it their all throughout. Foxes got their breakthrough with a goal by Tom Cowell on ten minutes and they extended the lead through Smith before half-time. Buccaneers had the advantage of the hill after the break and ten minutes in they gave themselves hope by pulling a goal back, only for WPF to rally and score two quick goals via Smith and Joe Coward to seal the game. Finlay Clark, his first following good set-up play by Sam Northcott, and his second a fine long-distance strike, bagged both Sefton Park Scorpions goals, although they weren’t quite enough to secure a point or more as Westbury Park Foxes Greens edged a close contest 3-2 with efforts from Jacob Stevens, Ben Bowen and Sam Devane. Battling performances by Josh Brown, Pablo Lambert and Arun Brooks in the second half ensured Sefton were always in the hunt. Wickwar Wanderers Under-13s rattled-up another fine win, Cameron

Thornbury were forced to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw. By contrast, Warmley Rangers Under-10s stretched their unbeaten start to the C-Division season to six games with a powerful display and 8-1 win over a valiant Ashton Boys Colts side. Warmley produced some excellent pass-and-move football which helped them to a 2-0 first-game victory, striker Ben Emery scoring with a cool finish and Kai Johnson adding to his impressive tally of goals. Rangers dominated the second match with wave after wave of attacks. Kareem Shuman (2) scored his first goals for the club and Dillon Monks curled a corner straight into the net. Tom Williams helped himself to a brace and Lewis Parfitt completed the scoring before gallant Ashton pulled a late goal back in a 6-1 defeat. Highridge United Under-10s and Deerswood battled out a 2-2 draw, a fitting outcome as both teams had enjoyed promotion from Division D last year. Jarvis Hill put the Ridge, whose man-of-the-match George Owen was instrumental at the back for them, one-up with a cracking free-kick just inside the Deerswood half, before

their opponents struck back just before the end of the first game to make it 1-1. It was Deerswood’s turn to take an early lead in game two before United’s star man Santino Reid slotted home from a goalmouth scramble to tie-up the scores again. Reid was then frustrated by an outstanding save by the Deerswood keeper as he eyed a belated winner.

OWEN Ridler’s star-man performance was rewarded with two great goals as Mangotsfield United Under-11s overcame Keynsham Town with an 8-0 top-division victory. Tom Garland, Will Ashton and Seb Scott all grabbed a goal apiece as the reigning champions demonstrated, with some great football, that they have settled well into the new nine-a-side format. Harry Jefferies, Max Wiltshire and James Walker all combined well at the back. They were ferocious in the tackle to snuff out any threat posed by Keynsham’s solitary striker. At the other end, Sam Barney weighed in with his weekly hat-trick, but was happy to hand the match ball to the impressive Ridler. Bristol Rovers Under-11s maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 away victory over hard-working Bitton Reds in the A Division. They took the lead through leading scorer Elijah Hayden, and with star man Harvey Milton dealing with everything Bitton could muster, and Keane Ashwood driving Rovers on, it was only a matter of time before they

added a second goal via Miguel Freckleton’s neat side-foot finish. Manager Kevin Ashwood singled out Stanley Dark, for his non-stop work-rate up-front, as a key reason for Rovers’ latest success, while thoughts too were with luckless Rovers player Bradley Webb, who recently broke his leg in school. Thornbury Town Under-10s slipped to a narrow 3-1 defeat away against Bitton in Division B. Both teams looked to play good passing football in the opening game and James Stone and Joe Pearmain were strong in the tackle for Thornbury. Indecision in the Town defence cost them dear, though, and they gifted Bitton two sloppy goals. Man-of-the-match Charlie Moss ran his heart out and was a continual threat for Thorns, but overall they struggled for fluency as they fell to a 2-0 defeat. There was hope for Thornbury at the start of the second game as the lively Aidan Ebanks was in the right place to lash home and give them the lead, only for Bitton to equalise straight away via another soft goal from Thorns’ perspective. Town star performer Peter Gregory ran his socks off in defence, but despite giving it their all on a hot day,

Gander’s hat-trick, Kieran Davis’ double and Matt Sands, Sam Paton, James Cooke and Rob Haines strikes seeing them to a 9-1 away success over Shirehampton, while Harry Feehily and Danny Wistow both registered trebles to go with Sonny Singh’s brace as Westbury Park Foxes swept to an 8-3 victory over Lockleze, Johnathen Lambangombe (2) and Cole Pierre replying for the away side. In the Fountain Trophies Senior Cup, an Iwan Hughes hat-trick, TJ Johnson brace and Archie Lock effort saw Bishopston United to a 6-2 win over Icthus, whose Andrew Peterson and Caleb Jassal responded with consolations. Central defender Suhayl and team-mate Frankie Armstrong combined as part of a fine flowing move down the right leading up to unmarked Lock’s goal for Bishopston, a crisp first-time finish. Travelling Tytherington Rocks Under-15s were made to fight all the way by St Andrews en route to an 8-1 Division B romp, Stan Hill scoring the home team’s consolation with a first-half penalty to tie it up at 1-1 before Rocks raced clear A bright second-half spell by the Saints midfield produced several shots for Ben Hernandez, Josh Butt and Eddie Bounds. Man-marker Matthew Hazell worked tirelessly for them too, while defenders Savill, Jenkins, Watt and Mellings played well.

Feature Match | Avon Athletic Under-14s vs Bristol Spartak Under-14s, Avon

Avon Youth League

Stand-in striker Sousa makes a real difference BROADWALK Under-16s toppled Bristol Rovers from Division Four top spot courtesy of a 4-2 victory in a tense and fast-paced game, which involved many injuries and subsequent substitutions. Gustavo Sousa was pushed forward from defence and made a name for himself in scoring Broadwalk’s equaliser after Rovers had struck the opening blow in the early stages. Two Kevin Pearce strikes and another for Sousa ensured the points went the visitors’ way, although Rovers were always in it and Broadwalk’s substitute keeper Calum Rogers was asked to make a fine save from a free-kick which had rebounded off the wall. Shantay Campbell and Ethan Caswell were the Rovers marksmen. Meanwhile, Will Simpson-Jarman and Alex Begbie-Dilks both fired trebles as Bitton roared to a 9-2 Division One away victory over Highridge United, having conceded a goal to a quick counter-attack inside the opening minute. George Neill (2) and Gianni Porcaro were also on target as the visitors recovered in style. Hallen Under-14s went into their first division fixture against Rockleaze Rangers with no forwards after losing Jack Brice and Elliot Gardner to illness and injury, while defender Brad Lewis was also absent. Yet they were still too strong for their opponents as Joe Hodson’s double and efforts by Harry Reynolds, Luke Spokes and star man Rex Mannings saw them to a comfortable 5-1 win. Whitchurch Juniors Under-13s were emphatic winners over Southmead CS as two unbeaten sides in Division Four went head-to-head. Strikes by Sam Hutton (2), Toby Anstey (2), Reece Morgan, Alfie Smart and keeper Jack Pringle, with a last-minute penalty, saw ’Church to a clinical 7-1 success, Aaron Stone netting Southmead’s consolation five minutes before the break. Whitchurch’s defence of Joe Knight, Harry Purday, Finley Tout, Kyle Lovegrove and Harry Britton all enjoyed outstanding games to limit Southmead to the one score. Goals by the lively Jay Murray, from the penalty spot after he had been upended inside the box, and Archie Denness, with a fine finish following a determined run, earned Portishead Town Under-13s a fighting point on the road from a 2-2 second-division draw with Bradley Stoke United, who had twice taken the lead before the break. The visitors went close to winning it in the second half when Murray’s audacious overhead kick was just off

target, while the same player took a tumble inside the area in the dying moments but the referee deemed a Bradley Stoke defender had just made contact with the ball. After going down in a recent five-goal thriller against Deerswood in the league and making a first-round exit in the cup against Avon Athletic (3-1) last week, Broadwalk Under-13s had the perfect opportunity to exact revenge on the same visiting Avon in the weekend’s first division encounter. And that is precisely what they did as they produced some of their best football of the campaign to clinch a 7-1 success with some terrific goals from Keegan Thorne (2), Lewis Neale (2), Christian Ayabaah, Jordan Lee-Walters and Thomas Morfitis, all that after Avon had snatched a fifth minute lead. Thornbury Town Under-12s produced a convincing 7-0 fifth-division away win over Keynsham Town Colts to remain undefeated in their first Avon Youth League season. Within minutes of kick-off, Thornbury were ahead when a curling Josh Riggs corner found the head of Leighton Tuodolo for 1-0. The away team soon doubled the lead courtesy of the hard-working Aaron Barnes, who fired in from close range. The floodgates opened and Tuodolo completed his hat-trick with two more goals while Sam Flawn (2) and Riggs weighed in to complete a comfortable three-pointer. Keynsham did embark on some dangerous counters, but the away team’s back line of Michael Moon, Ollie Rice and man-of-the-match Ben Peters effectively soaked up any danger. In the top-flight section, Almondsbury Saints Under-12s and Bristol City SCJ fought out a thrilling 1-1 draw in their top-table clash. Both teams battled hard to win possession and create chances, with Will Gould and Callum Eastwood threatening for visiting City, whilst Saints posed problems through Ben Lloyd and Ellis Richards on the flanks. It was a Fin Coombes goal that broke the deadlock for the Almonds midway through the second half as he darted in from the left with a fine finish. Both teams looked solid in defence with Saints’ Harrison Neill and Max Barker showing up well and Colby Hawkins impressing for City. Ten minutes before time the visitors levelled up when Will Gould used his pace to get past Saints keeper Charlie Smith and drive the ball home, so breaching the Saints’ proud clean-sheet record this season.

Matthews sparks Avon’s Avon Athletic

Bristol Spartak

James McKimm epsport@bepp.co.uk AVON Athletic proved too strong for Bristol Spartak as they claimed a comfortable victory that included two assists and a goal from Liam Matthews, although they did have to weather a spirited Spartak revival in the second half. The visitors got the game underway, but just two minutes in found themselves a goal down. Matthews picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch before sliding it right into the path of Connor Davies, who unleashed a vicious shot from the corner of the box, beating Kyran Gitsham at his near post. Avon doubled their lead three minutes later when a long goal-kick from Lewis Brodie was flicked on by Matthews and, after latching on to the flick-on, Jardell Hartley-Keeling held off two challenges before dispatching the ball left footed past Gitsham from 14 yards out. Spartak’s first shot came a minute later through Tommy-Lee Tremblett, but soon the visitors were on the back foot again as another long goal-kick from Brodie was flicked on by Davies to Matthews, who drove to the byline before cutting the ball back, however Hartley-Keeling couldn’t quite find the back of the net from ten yards out as his flicked effort struck the post and bounced clear. Some brave defending was then required from Mason Hartrey who, after taking Robbie Warden’s powerful shot full in the face from three yards away, leapt straight back to his feet and put in a brilliant sliding tackle to prevent Hartley-Keeling from firing home the loose ball. Avon continued to press and seven minutes before half time Hartley-Keeling netted his second of the match after latching on to Alfie Brewis through ball and cutting back onto his right foot to beat his man before tucking the ball past Gitsham at the near post to make it 3-0. And bang on the half-hour mark the home side extended their lead

● Avon Athletic and Bristol Spartak involved in an aerial battle

● A Bristol Spartak player goes to ground to stop an Avon Athletic attack with a lovely team goal. Davies played the ball into the feet of Hartley-Keeling from the right and, with his back to goal, he flicked it round the corner for Reece Martin who unselfishly squared it for Warden to curl in unmarked. A rare pot shot from Spartak’s Tremblett in the 32nd minute had Brodie worried for a second as the looping effort dropped over the backpedalling keeper, but unfortunately for the visitors the ball didn’t dip enough as it dropped harmlessly over the bar. Hartley-Keeling came close to completing his hat-trick before half time as he reacted quickest to a duffed shot from Brewis, beating both defenders and Gitsham to the ball. But, although he managed to squeeze the ball beyond the keeper, his effort struck the post and rolled safely behind for a goal-kick. Avon had dominated the first half

as they pinned Spartak back, rarely allowing the visitors out of their own half, while their defence of Marcus Mullin, Hayden Radford, Zach Ellaway and Ollie Muxworthy snuffed out any threat of a Spartak attack. The second half started in explosive fashion. Twice in the opening 90 seconds Spartak’s Mason McKechnie tested Brodie from 25 yards, forcing the Avon keeper into two good saves, however as the visitors pressed forward they got caught with too many men up the pitch and the first time Avon broke into the Spartak half they took full advantage. Martin flicked the ball right to Matthews who brought it down superbly on his thigh, not breaking stride as he surged down the wing before cutting in and firing the ball into the top corner to make it 5-0 just two minutes into the second half. Seconds later, Hartley-Keeling

Bristol Under-18 Combination

victory over Spartak

Heath and Colts surge to the top of the table THERE were plenty of thrills and spills for under-18s supporters to enjoy around the county as Sunday’s fixtures produced some exciting action in both league and cup. In Bristol Central, Bromley Heath’s 2-0 away win over Saltford Colts, and Highridge United’s 5-0 home defeat of Hanham Athletic, elevated them both above third-placed St Nicholas Colts on goal difference, with all three teams on ten points. Bradley Elvin, Jordan Edwards (2) and Jack Thompson (2, one pen) were the happy Highridge marksmen, with Harry Milkins their stand-out player. Otis Buxton wasn’t far away from adding to Highridge’s tally, while it was a second-half foul inside the box on Bertie Kirk which led to Thompson’s cool conversion from the spot. Saltford Colts remain rooted to the bottom together with Ingleside as both sides are still to record their first points. In the South Division, Fry Club Juniors moved to the summit alongside Yatton Athletic following their 3-2 victory over Bristol Spartak, while at the other end of the table, Bishopston’s 4-2 win over fellow strugglers Highridge United Lions lifted them off the bottom. In the only game played in Bristol North, Stoke Lane came away from

during the Avon Youth League Under-14 Division Two game A minute later, Matthews almost restored Avon’s four-goal advantage when he managed to get a toe on Ben Sweetman’s lofted through ball over the Spartak defence ahead of the advancing Gitsham. Unfortunately for the striker the ball was rolling agonisingly wide and, although he managed to reach it just before it ran out for a goal-kick, he was at an impossible angle and could only turn the ball against the post. Then midway through the half Hartley-Keeling had yet another chance to complete his hat-trick. Matthews' ball in from the right found the winger unmarked at the back post but, instead of ducking to head the ball, the striker attempted to turn it in with his thigh and failed to hit the target from close range. Both Warden and then Brewis failed to find the top corner from 25 yards for Avon, before Tripp-Edwards

Thor nbury 5-2 winners to leave both teams in mid-table. The opening round of the GFA Youth Shield saw Longwell Green go down 4-2 at the hands of visiting Swindon Village Bowmen. Josh Dean’s fine free-kick and Adam Thurston’s deflected late strike gave Longwell some consolation, although they were indebted to some fine saves from their keeper John Fox which ensured the sides went into the interval in goalless deadlock before the floodgates opened after the break. Bristol Telephones continued their good start to the season with a 7-0 success against Cheltenham CS. Early goals from George Pool and an ‘own goal’, albeit claimed by Kyran Hunt, were followed by strikes by Mickey Parsons, Joe Cramner and Jordan Hughes to hand ’Phones a 5-0 interval advantage. Second-half efforts from Joe Osbourne and Pool again completed a comfortable 7-0 victory. Winterbourne United went one better, dispensing of Bishop’s Cleeve in emphatic 8-0 fashion through Jason Bracey’s hat-trick, Corey Hathway’s brace and Nathan Redmore, Ryan Evans and Harvey Reed strikes. A strong defensive performance, inspired by skipper Josh Davies, ensured there were few worries at the back for rampant ’Bour ne.

Photographs: Jon Kent almost created a third for the visitors as he threaded through his captain Harry Jones, but Brodie was quick off his line to shut the midfielder down and deflected his effort just wide of the post. Brodie was called into action once more before the final whistle when Tripp-Edwards found Lloyd peeling left, however the striker's effort from just inside the box was brilliantly tipped over by the Avon keeper.

Avon Athletic: Lewis Brodie, Zach Ellaway, Robbie Warden, Luke Booy, Hayden Radford, Alfie Brewis, Ben Sweetman, Reece Martin, Jardell Hartley-Keeling, Liam Matthews, Ollie Muxworthy, Connor Davies, Marcus Mullin. Bristol Spartak: Kyran Gitsham, Zak George, Josh Brown, Mason Hartrey, Mason McKechnie, Tommy-Lee Tremblett, Robbie Tripp-Edwards, Harry Jones, Archie Lloyd, Jake Lloyd, Mitch Naish.

could have made it six after he burst down the left and into the box, however Gitsham was quick off his line and got down well at the striker's feet. Spartak responded well though and three minutes in they managed to pull a goal back. Robbie Tripp-Edwards jinked his way superbly into the box from the left, skipping past five or six challenges as he worked his way to the by-line before cutting the ball back to Archie Lloyd, and the striker simply placed the ball into the bottom corner from four yards out. Spartak continued to press forward and 12 minutes in they grabbed a second. Once again it was Tripp-Edwards who found Lloyd from the left, but this time the striker had a lot more to do as he brought down the cross after it flicked off a defender's head, before brilliantly finding the top corner to make it 5-2.

Bristol Girls’ League

An impressive Boco team performance is personified by Titcomb’s fine display Simon Parkinson juniorleague@bepp.co.uk

ALEX Titcomb’s inspirational performance at the back laid the platform for AEK Boco White Under-10s’ 9-0 victory over brave Bradley Stoke. Mia Brain led the way at the other end of the pitch with a terrific hat-trick, while Ellie Staples and Georgia Allen both celebrated doubles and Millie Lacey and captain Lydia Hall chipped in with the other goals. Bristol Ladies Union Red Under-10s clinched a 6-3 victory win over their BLU Yellow counterparts in an exciting Bristol Ladies showdown. In a more evenly-contested match than the recent form of the two teams suggested, Yellows’ birthday girl Hope Conibear was a real handful in defence, as was her opposite number for Reds, Zoe Gibbs. Reds’ Brooke Mallinson came out of goal to enjoy an outing in defence in the second half, while Yellows’ part-time keeper Lucy Groves was excellent, too. Yellows’ Maisy Longbottom hit a hat-trick but it wasn’t enough to prevent Reds sweeping to victory with captain Sammy Ogilvie, Martha Haines and Emilia Smith each bagging braces Newly-formed AEK Boco Under-12s continue to go from strength to strength, securing a 9-0 win over battling St Nicholas. Excellent running in midfield by Georgia Tomlin, Siana Tomlin, Molly Silsbury and Ashleigh Hutson proved too much for the travelling Saints, while another solid display in defence from Abby Bethell and Ruby Lovegrove ensured a clean sheet. Robyn Carpenter and captain and player-of-the-match Jess Titcomb each notched hat-tricks, while Emma Bater weighed in with a brace and Olivia Allen netted with a superb strike from long distance.

Cummins, Lucia Phillips and Charlie Sutton were outstanding, there was no stopping the Boco strikers at the other end of the pitch as Tishauna Keeping-Graham (4), Bryony Higgs (3), Chloe White (2) and Reenie Lodge all netted to see their side to double figures without reply. Boco had entered the Whitchurch match in good heart following Wednesday’s 9-2 success over spirited Cadbury Heath in which Lodge, Higgs (2), Grace Foote, Keeping-Graham (3), White and Alice Skinner were all on target. They would have scored more goals too had the Heath keeper not produced some fabulous saves.

Somerset Girls’ Cup

Bris through to second round ● Bristol Ladies Union Red Under-10 player Sammy Ogilvie goes on a run against BLU Yellows Bristol Ladies Union Under-13s, delighted to have received sponsorship-backing from Shirehampton-based estate agents Ocean, swept to an 8-0 victory over Downend Flyers with Hannah Price (4), Sophie Price, Olivia Burton, Mayca Jefferis-Cuenca and the tough-tackling Jessica Fry all among the goals and Poppy Yeo, Ellie Haines and Abigail Price playing the support parts well. Both keepers utilised at various stages, Ruby Mossford and Chloe Howourth, pulled off some fine saves to secure a clean sheet for the Union. Longwell Green Under-15s returned to winning ways with a deserved 2-1 win against Bristol

Santos. Chloe Fuller fired Longwell in front and, while they maintained their first-half determination after the break, Santos too fought hard and were rewarded with an equaliser. It was down to Becki Sullivan, with her first goal of the season from inside the box, to clinch the points for Longwell, although Ellie Todd’s outstanding display at the back did much to help see the hosts safely home with few further wobbles. Seven goals by captain Daisy Ackerman helped Bradley Stoke Under-11s see off a valiant effort from Bristol Ladies Union, who had just six players available to field. A Maddie Hilbert brace and a goal

apiece for Olivia Hood and Lydia Tang helped seal a convincing 11-0 win as Bradley Stoke maintained their perfect start to the season. It was a real team effort too with assists coming from Naomi Adams, Tang, Hilbert and Paige Fowler and strong defensive performances by Leah Powell, Zoe Maddock and Annabelle Thomas, ensuring Stoke head into Sunday’s home table-topper against AEK Boco Blue unbeaten. Leaders AEK Boco Blue Under-11s kept up the pressure on their challengers by claiming another three points courtesy of a 10-0 win over Whitchurch. While their defenders Veronica

BRISLINGTON produced a fighting 4-1 victory over Bishops Lydeard to progress to the second stage of the Somerset Cup. Early pressure resulted in Harriet Gillard firing them in front before slick passing and movement from Chloe Nelson and Emma Sims created space for Sophie Allen to double their lead. Allen netted again to hand her side a 3-0 half-time lead and while their opponents did produce an early second-half reply, a fourth Brislington goal through Gillard wrapped it up. Keeper Cher Marvel produced two outstanding saves for Bris while fine defensive skills from Charlie Osborne and Casie Dixon snuffed out any further threat at the back for them.
