Experiential Graphic Design + wayfinding
it all goes together. At B+H, Experiential Graphic Design is a purposeful, fully integrated part of the design process. Our goal is to realize projects where a unified team of experts blurs the lines between graphic design, architecture, interior design, and art. We aim to infuse the essence of a brand into its built space through visual communication, graphics, installation art, and distinct visual or immersive moments that create memorable user experiences. We’ve spent years noticing what makes a difference. Identifying which attributes of a space create friction-free, enjoyable, memorable experiences. Experiences that visually communicate why you’re here, and where you want to go. Successful EGD helps guide the user to destinations easily, without excessive use of signage. Physical experiences, branded moments, places for respite and play, all create distinct landmarks. Places can express an individual sense of brand identity through implied references such as color, typeface, art or artifacts specific to brand culture. Our team blends art, architecture, interior and graphic design to create intuitive, navigable, branded environments. Our work communicates information in a way that empowers the user. Our goal is to keep you oriented in your surroundings and infuse spaces with a sense of brand that inspires, delights, surprises, and creates pride of place.

Technology Company Offices – Seattle, WA
This tech-innovator client shares common values with the creative pioneers who occupied the neighborhood before them. They are known for innovative thinking and bold moves. When they asked B+H to design their new office interiors they wanted to honor the neighborhood’s deeply artistic history to inspire the new occupants. Our team’s design is imbued with the spirit of musicians, artists, writers, poets, and filmmakers who defied mainstream norms and who performed in nightclubs and theaters or created in studios on the same site. Different “neigbhorhoods” celebrate Music, Graphic Art and Stage. Interactive pieces encourage engagement, playful, hidden graphics trigger a shift of perspective, and quirky motivational messages remind people to be peculiar. The resulting space is spiritually in tune with its cultural surroundings and urges continuous innovation in the workers who spend their time there.

T e c h n o l o g y C o m p a n y O f f i c e s – ST oe ar to tn lt eo , w a
The NASA space agency’s race to space and 1960’s era fashion were the inspiration behind the interiors and environmental graphics for this Seattle tech company’s headquarters. Starry skies, space suits, rockets and astronauts mingle with geometric patterns and fun, playful moments. The use of color has inherent meaning due to the large floor plate and two elevator cores. Blue graphics represent North and yellow for South, making wayfinding an intuitive part of the user experience.

An interactive space designed to tell the story of a brand. That was the design challenge for this Cambridge, MA | AMA Lobby Redevelopment | March 29, 2016
biotech company’s Cambridge, MA location. The intent was to draw people into the space and teach them about what the company does in an artful way. Upon entry, visitors can learn company history through a 3D object oriented historical timeline. Step a little further in and a talking column comes alive to tell stories of patients who have been helped by the company’s drugs. Deeper into the space is a 20’ tall LED wall displaying vibrant colored motion graphics of cellular processes as grand scale, ambient art. The journey ends at the back of the space with a peaceful moment of respite and wellness.

Samsung Americas Headquarters – San Jose, CA Completed prior to joining B+H
Samsung’s new Americas Headquarters was designed to be a collaborative, fun and exciting “technology think-tank”. Identity and wayfinding was thoughtfully integrated, etched into walls and columns, as a deductive element rather than additive. A 9-story green wall + circuit board pattern was created for the parking structure, communicating Samsung’s commitment to the environment.

Nova VA Hospital - New ORleans, LA Completed prior to joining B+H
A healthcare facility designed for an aging population of veterans with special needs, great thought was given to creating a system of wayfinding that was easy to understand, large scale and overtly legible. Because color-blindness affects veterans in high numbers, signage was purposely void of color and located consistently throughout the buildings, setting a visual precedent. Art installations were created to thank veterans for their service and to inspire pride.

NUSKIN Enterprises – Provo, UT Completed prior to joining B+H
Health and beauty products company Nu Skin’s brand vision is one of purity, cleanliness, refresh & calm. Nu Skin headquarters design concept was based on the calming properties of water; reflection, purity and movement. Interior signs were designed to represent a vessel of pure, calm water with a soft ripple, as a hint of activity. The properties of water continue as a unifying element in the landscape as slender, wayfinding pylons, punctuated with handcrafted art glass on two sides. Reflectivity is expressed in a 9’ diameter, highly reflective, sculptural representation of the Nu Skin fountain icon, designed with the intent of human interactivity. On any given day you may find visitors viewing their reflections or posing inside of the sculpture for the “Instagram moment” the client desired.

Flight Centre is Australasia’s best known travel agency with more than 2000 shops and businesses in 11 countries. As the parent of a large and growing family of brands, at the time of our project Flight Centre’s identity was nebulous at best. To create a “branded” environment without the luxury of a solidified brand, our strategy centered around bold and captivating graphics to create impact, inspired by content that would never go out of style: the golden age of travel.
