WWII, also known as the Second World War, that followed the Great War, was a global war that lasted from September of 1939 to September of 1945. It involved the majority of the world’s nations and included all of the world’s great powers eventually split up into two apposing military alliances known as the Allies and the Axis. The Allies consisted of the U.S., Great Britain, China, and The Soviet Union. The Axis consisted of Japan, Italy, and Germany. As of now, it had been the most widespread war in history and more than 100 million people from more than 30 countries have been involved directly. During the state of total war, the distinction between civilian and military resources were almost
completely erased. And even though it was the Allies that won the war, the total casualties in the allies military forces, out numbered the Axis military casualties with a ratio of 2:1. During the first two years of global conflict, the United States were not directly involved in WWII until Sunday, December 7, 1941. This was when the Japanese military surprise attacked the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. After this attack, the U.S. felt as though they needed to respond. The next day, the U.S. and Great Britain declared war on Japan.
