Congratulations to PJA Class of 2019 #PJAProud

Sadie Drucker

graduated from St. Mary’s Academy where she was an athlete on the cross country and track and field teams, participated in Science Olympiad, was Director of Operation Appreciation Club, a leader for Encounter Retreat, a member of JSU, and a mentor to a 5th grade student in the Teaching, Integrating, & Exploring Science mentorship program. Outside of school, Sadie was a lifeguard and swim instructor for Portland Parks and Rec, a research intern at OHSU, and a member of Post 58 - a youth-led mountaineering/service group. Sadie will be attending Scripps College, majoring in Molecular Biology and running on the cross country and track team.

Yuval Faclieru graduated from Sunset High School where she was the co-leader of the Malala Club. Yuval spent her time outside of school as a ballerina at Portland Dance Center, a volunteer at OHSU and OMSI, and a member of OJCYF. Yuval will be a student at Northeastern University majoring in neuroscience on a pre-med track. She will spend her first semester studying abroad in Madrid.

Elliot Feinblatt graduated from Wilsonville High School where he was an athlete on the Varsity Lacrosse Team and Team Captain and Manager of the Snowboard Team. Elliot was a National Honors Scholar, participated in the Aerospace Club, and founded a Cultural Exploration Club at his school. He was awarded the STAMP seal of biliteracy. Elliot will be attending Oregon State University Honors College in the fall, planning to study biomedical engineering.

Jacob Glass graduated from Ida B. Wells High School where he was the club leader of Model UN and Key Club, a writer for the school magazine, and creator/host/producer of Pop Culture Guardians, a new podcast. Outside of school, Jacob has dedicated many hours to climate justice activism. He is co-lead of Portland Youth Climate Strike, had a summer internship at Crag Environmental Law Center, and is a fellow at Divest Oregon. He was a four-year member of OJCYF and USY, including a regional position as Social Action/Tikkun Olam Vice President. Jacob will be moving to Washington, DC to attend George Washington University where he intends to study history, media and the environment.

Gili Heyman graduated from St. Mary’s Academy where she participated in Science Olympiad - a team that won the State competition two years in a row. She was a mentor to a 5th grade student in the Teaching, Integrating, & Exploring Science mentorship program, and was a math tutor, all while working part-time. Gili will be attending Syracuse University to study Forensics and Biochemistry.

Evan Horwitz graduated from Ida B. Wells High School where he was the student body government treasurer, founder of TutorStand, played on the JV basketball team, and captain of the debate team. Outside of school, he interned in the office of Senator Ron Wyden and worked part-time at Laughing Planet Cafe. Evan will attend Northwestern University in the fall where he plans to study economics and financial engineering.

Tess Jacobs graduated from St. Mary’s Academy where she participated in Mock Trial and Marian’s Choir. Her involvement in BBYO included roles as chapter President, Jewish Enrichment Chair, and Social Justice & Community Service Chair for both her chapter and region. Tess volunteered at a youth crisis line and has been a counselor at BB Day Camp. In the fall, Tess will join her sister, Olivia (PJA Class of 2016) at the Honors College at Oregon State University. She plans to study Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Physics.

Kabir Josse graduated from Liberty High School where he was the captain of the Varsity Swim Team, and participated in Mock Trial. Kabir was a cancer research intern at OHSU, co-chair of the Hillsboro Youth Advisory Council, and a Dutch Bros barista. He also found a creative outlet through ceramics. Kabir will attend the University of Oregon: Clark Honors College, planning to major in Political Science/Law with a minor in Business.

Shayah Kosak graduated from Ida B. Wells where he was the Vice President of the Astronomy Club, co-president of JSU, and an interpreter/ mentor for other students. Shayah was also a volunteer tutor at Smart City Learning Cafe, a member of OJCYF, and a teacher-helper at Neveh Shalom Sunday School, in addition to part-time work at Cedar Sinai Park. Shayah will be attending Middlebury College where he plans on studying Conservation Biology and World Languages.

Niomi Markel graduated from St. Mary’s Academy where she played soccer, and was a member of the Student Equity Team and the Gun Control Advocacy Club. Niomi has been an activist and leader with Portland Youth Climate Strike, a member of Post 58 - a youth-led mountaineering/service group, and has worked a variety of part-time jobs. During high school, she had a law internship with Breach Collective, and an ecology internship with PSU. Niomi will be staying in Portland for a gap year to continue to do climate justice work. She is planning a big adventure to backpack through Patagonia before heading off to college in the fall of 2024.

Elizabeth Mehr graduated from Ida B. Wells High School where was a member of the JSU club. Outside of school, Elizabeth was a leader of OJCYF and a volunteer at Youthline, a teen crisis helpline, as well as at Planned Parenthood. Elizabeth will be attending Syracuse University Honors Program, majoring in Policy Studies.

Jack Reynolds graduated from Ida B. Wells High School where he was active in the theater program and has continued his creative practice with traditional and digital art mediums. Jack will be studying Architecture at the University of Oregon beginning in the fall.

Noam Rosenthal graduated from Beaverton High School. He continued to play basketball and tennis during high school. Outside of school, he worked at Play It Again Sports and participated in NCSY. Noam will attend Boston University in the fall and hopes to one day study in a yeshiva in Israel.

Ketriel Safran graduated from Ida B. Wells High School where she participated in Model UN and JSU. She was a member of OJCYF for four years and spent a summer learning at the Center for American Archeology. Ketriel will be attending Skidmore College in the fall, intending to major in Anthropology.

Galia Zaslavsky graduated from Ida B. Wells High School. Galia continued practicing martial arts until senior year and achieved a third degree black belt after 10 years. She participated in the Jewish Student Union at Ida B Wells, took photography classes at the Multnomah Arts Center as well as 3 years of AP Photography classes to strengthen her photography skills. Galia is headed to Lewis & Clark College, where she plans to double major in Psychology and Business.

Ruthie Zeidman graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. Ruthie was an active member of her school community as an SMA Ambassador and participated in Lead Like a Girl and Justice Week at her school. Ruthie also participated in BBYO, receiving chapter, regional, and international awards. Ruthie was a National Honors Society and National Society of High School Scholars member. In the fall, she will attend Chapman University in the honors program, with the plan to major in Communication Studies with minors in Holocaust Studies and Creative and Cultural Industries.
