WELCOME
Dear Friends,
It’s spring, and the MJCC is busier than ever! From family programs to Jewish holiday celebrations, from arts and culture events to community gatherings, from community service opportunities to personal wellness services, and from new youth classes to new fitness offerings, you’ll find what you’re looking for at the J this spring!
We continue to implement our MJCC Strategic Plan with expanded offerings for youth and young families, including many programs offered in conjunction with PJ Library. Our Family Nosh series continues with Bounce in the Bubble on May 4 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. This event gives families a chance to meet new friends and play together in our bounce house, gymnastics area, and soccer field. Read books from PJ Library and enjoy snacks and crafts, as well!
We’re expanding our youth programs class offerings with the return of Art/Drawing, led by our own Bryce Blackard! This class joins favorites including: Pokemon, Chess, Basketball, Multi-Sport, Volleyball, and Soccer. See pages 10-11.
Our monthly Family Shabbat Dinners have become a fan favorite at the MJCC! Join us this spring on April 25, May 16, and June 20 at 6:00 pm to welcome and celebrate Shabbat as a community. A kosher dinner is provided for only $5 per person (or $15 maximum per family), thanks to a grant from generous donors, and the event includes songs, stories, kids activities and a great chance to meet and socialize with friends, new and old. Advance registration is required. See pages 6-7.
In addition to Shabbat, the spring is filled with special holidays. Join us for Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) on Thursday, May 1 for a fun celebration including Israeli food, dancing, and music along with family-friendly activities and performances. See page 7. On Sunday, May 18, we’ll celebrate Lag B’Omer with outdoor games and treats toasted over the fire.
May 18 is also the date of the Day for the J! This annual open house includes games, activities and contests, swimming, and music. Join us for the Community Award Celebration honoring the winners of our Pillar of Excellence Award and Glickman ScholarAthlete Awards, along with our Jewish Sports Hall of Fame inductee(s). See page 7.
Interested in making a difference in the lives of others as a volunteer? Visit oregonjcc.org/ about-us/volunteer to sign up to be a J Ambassador or Arts + Culture Events Volunteer Please consider signing up for our next Red Cross Blood Drive, on Sunday, May 25, as well. See page 7.

Looking to up your fitness game? We’re excited to welcome back Shawn Montiel who is bringing back our popular Body Shop class (Thurs. 5:30 - 6:25 pm). Ruth Lukowski will now be offering evening HIIT classes (Tues./Thurs. at 6:30 pm), and Eric Feldman has added a weekend Cycle class (Sat. at 8:15 am). See page 17. Sore after all those workouts? Introduce yourself to Sarah Peterson, our new massage therapist who is now booking on Thursday evenings. See page 19.
Last but not least, don’t forget to register for MJCC Summer Day Camp if you haven’t already done so!!

We are excited to offer some of your favorite community events this spring, including Day for the J! and our annual Yom Ha’Atzmaut celebration. The addition of monthly Family Shabbat Dinners has filled up our cafe and lobby on Friday nights and we have enjoyed creating bonds through this shared experience.
The Mittleman Jewish Community Center is recognized by the community as a safe and welcoming place for thousands in Multnomah County to gather, work-out, play and learn.
Please consider becoming a donor. Your gift of any size is needed and appreciated. We offer programs and services for little ones who have just joined our community to older adults well into their 90s and everyone in between. Hundreds of MJCC members, guests, and community members come through our doors for programs, services, and events on a daily basis. Membership, program fees and rentals account for approximately 86% of our annual revenue, and we are dependent upon donations and grants to make up the difference.
Here is what your generous tax-deductible donation to the MJCC supports:
• New equipment in our fitness center, gymnasium and studios
• Day Camp scholarships
• Cultural and holiday programming that celebrates our Jewish community
• Competitive salaries to retain staff and trainers that are the face of the MJCC
• Updates to the Ballroom, Lobby, and so much more!
Over the years, our programs and services have evolved and expanded, but our mission remains unchangedto be an inclusive and welcoming hub for a diverse community, fostering lifelong wellness and providing dynamic social and educational experiences, grounded in Jewish values and culture.
Here are a few ways you can support the J:
• Anyone who donates $360 or more becomes a member of The Friends of the Center Society. Friends of the Center Society members get invited to exclusive events and programs throughout the year
• You can donate appreciated stock or a minimum retirement distribution and avoid capital gains (please discuss with your tax professional)
• Become a Sustaining Member for $1800/year (tax deduction depends on your membership cost)
• Add a monthly donation on to your membership
