Mittleman Jewish Community Center

A CENTER For All

Ages

MISSION

The MJCC is an inclusive and welcoming hub for a diverse community, fostering lifelong wellness and providing dynamic social and educational experiences, grounded in Jewish values and culture.

VISION

The Mittleman Jewish Community Center envisions a thriving, diverse Jewish community, and embraces a central role in welcoming all to gather, connect, learn and celebrate life.

We are pleased to present our Annual Report for the 2023-24 fiscal year. This past year was a success: We continued to implement our new strategic plan, cultivate new partnerships, and launch new initiatives. Our ability to serve our community at every stage of life is dependent upon the generous philanthropic support of our members and the extended community. We are deeply grateful to each of our donors.

A primary focus of our strategic plan is the engagement of youth and young families. We expanded our programs with new PJ Library events, after school classes, family fitness offerings, and holiday celebrations for Tu B’Shevat, Hanukkah, Shabbat, and more! We rang in the New Year with over 550 people at “New Year’s at Noon,” and hundreds of people joined us at other special family events, including Yom Ha’atzmaut, “Bounce in the Bubble,” and Drag Queen Bingo.

Membership continues to grow, and adults of all ages have enjoyed expanded recreational programs, including lacrosse and pickleball; opportunities to volunteer at the J; and a range of cultural programs, including dance workshops, concerts, film screenings, and speakers. Our cultural partners this year were comprised of White Bird Dance, Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Northwest Dance Project, Annie Bloom’s Books, Portland Chamber Music, and more.

Following the October 7 massacre, and during the on-going war, the MJCC has supported community gathering and education with in-person, hybrid, and on-line programs and resources. We are proud to be the “Town Square” of the Portland Jewish community, welcoming Jews of every affiliation and identity. We are also proud to welcome individuals who do not identify as Jewish, and we know that bringing Jews and non-Jews together to play, socialize, and learn is the most effective way to counter Jewish hate.

Membership, program, and rental revenue cover only a portion of our budget. Support from the community is critical to purchase equipment, update facilities, offer financial assistance, and launch new initiatives. We are especially grateful to our sponsors and the members of our Friends of the Center Society whose generosity inspires us. We also extend a special thanks to the members of the MJCC Legacy Society. Legacy gifts ensure that the MJCC will continue to serve our community for generations to come.

Thank you for your strong commitment to the MJCC. We look forward to a continued partnership to serve and strengthen our community.
