It takes a great staff to make a great camp. We carefully screen and interview candidates to ensure that we hire staff who are committed, hardworking, enthusiastic role models for kids. All of our staff undergo a criminal background check and are certified in First Aid and CPR. All camp staff participate in our intensive multi-day staff training. Many of our camp staff return to us year after year. Bios of our camp staff can be found on our website at oregonjcc.org/daycamp.

Friday, July 8 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Campers bring a family member or friend to enjoy being a kid at camp. Adults are encouraged to bring a vegetarian lunch.

Our swimming program is one of the great benefits of MJCC Day Camp! We have an outstanding aquatic facility that allows kids to enjoy the water safely under the close supervision of Red Cross certified lifeguards.

Lessons Two Times Per Week!

Classic Camp Swim Lessons for Simcha + Kehila

• Swim lessons teach basic swimming skills, water safety and life-saving skills. • Progressive curriculum encourages campers to swim better and with more confidence. To encourage participation, an alternative activity is not offered during swim lesson time, but no child will be forced into the pool.

Extra Information for Simcha

Simcha Classic campers swim in our warm water pool every day! Twice per week swim lessons include floating, kicking, body position, water safety and underwater skills. Three days per week, the warm water pool will be available for Simcha Classic Camp open swim. For campers participating in Tu/Th only, swim lessons are not available. Kickoff and Spirit camps do not include swim lessons.

Open Swim!

• 100% camper participation is encouraged but not required. • Alternative activity offered but please pack a swimsuit daily. • Pool will be divided by skill level to ensure safety.

Swim Assessments Required for all campers

• The swim assessment consists of swimming the length of the pool with arm strokes, climbing out, jumping back in and swimming backstroke the length of the pool. • Swim assessments are offered Monday and Tuesday between 2:30 - 5:30 pm from March to June as well as at our registration fair on Sunday, March 13. We will offer assessments on the Monday of each camp session. • Campers who are able to complete the swim assessment will not be required to wear life jackets. Lifejackets will be available for all swimmers.

Pool Float!

Kehila, Ruach and Kef use our pool float every Friday as part of their swimming time. Extra camp staff and lifeguards will be on deck to supervise. Campers who cannot pass the swim assessment will be required to wear a lifejacket.

Classic Camp

Kickoff and Spirit Camps

Weekly: June 20-Aug. 19 Classic camp includes sports, swimming, cooking, dance, Jewish enrichment, drama, nature, and arts + crafts. Campers stay with the same counselors providing consistency, making campers feel safe and comfortable. Each themed week we go outside as often as possible, but have the opportunity to go indoors. Simcha and Kehila campers can progress through our swim lesson program twice a week. Ruach campers go on a weekly field trip. All Classic campers swim, gather for a daily song circle, and celebrate Shabbat on Fridays.

Kickoff Camp: (June 13-17) Spirit Camp: (Aug. 22-26) Start and end your summer with pure fun! These camps are run by our year-round sports and aquatics staff and some of our summer counselors. Campers meet daily in the ballroom and enjoy swimming, sports, arts + crafts, rock climbing and more. Venture outside for field games, basketball, soccer and more. Kickoff Camp and Spirit Camp include swimming, but not swim lessons.

Improve your hand-eye coordination and concentration skills through archery games and shooting techniques. No previous experience necessary. All equipment provided.

Arts Galore

Enjoy paper mache, abstract art, mural painting, making necklaces and exploring everything to do with art and craft!

Chess

Join Chess Odyssey and the MJCC to enhance your enjoyment and skill level of chess. All levels of chess players are welcome! Participate in educational activities, practice games, and competitions.

Crafts + Creations

Draw, paint, invent, and create all sorts of art projects. Sample activities include: mask-making, face painting, designing clay necklaces, beading, paper mache, and more.

Garden Growers

Explore the world of gardening! Get your hands dirty as you learn to plant and grow small plants in our very own box gardens.

Available for Simcha , Kehila + Ruach campers Weekly: June 20-Aug. 19 Glee: Drama + Music

Glee comes to the MJCC! Sing and act your way through this creative week of music and drama. Select songs and scenes to perform at the end-of-the-week Shabbat celebration. Participate in drama games, costume making, storytelling, set design, and more.

Gymnastics + Dance

Get moving with basic gymnastics and dance instruction. Balance, roll, jump, and flip to increase coordination and grace through this gymnastics and dance camp. Perform at the end-of-theweek Shabbat celebration.

Jewnior Days

Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Jewish culture week! Spend each day celebrating a different Jewish holiday and exploring various aspects of Jewish culture. Play dreidel and make latkes for Chanukah, dress up for Purim, make challah for Shabbat, plant trees for Tu Bâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Shevat, and act out the Passover story.

Junior Einsteins

Explore science with Lego engineering, wacky experiments, and logic games. Ask questions and find answers as a curious scientist!

Lights, Camera, Action

Write, direct, and create a short film or commercial in this fun-filled week of Lights, Camera, Action Camp! Practice writing scripts, creating plots, acting, and directing your very own film. Experience what it takes to create something for the big screen...in the ballroom!

Little Explorers

This camp will be held entirely outside all week! Explore nature, go on a scavenger hunt, and hike the nature paths around the MJCC.

Music Makers

It’s music time! Play a new instrument each day and create homemade music makers. Create delightful sounds with your friends.

Nature Explorers

Make the most of Portland in the summer by spending days outdoors exploring the nature around us. Learn the names of trees and plants, track and spot animals, use binoculars while birdwatching, and find out how to read and follow a map and compass.

Learn and practice dribbling, passing, and shooting skills. Improve your game by learning how to play various positions and improve your fancy footwork in the MJCC Sportsplex. Work as a team to score the winning goal!

Splish Splash

Enjoy multiple activities around or in water such as swimming, slip and slides, water balloons, water crafts and water safety all in the safe environment of the MJCC.

Invent your own superhero. Create comic books, costumes, and more to bring your imagined superhero to life!

Go on adventures into the outdoors to learn the basics of painting and how to paint scenery. All supplies are included. Get ready to get your hands and maybe your shirt dirty.

Safely learn how to rock climb on the MJCC’s indoor rock wall. Rock climbing helps build selfconfidence and trust. Build strength and endurance with qualified instructors who will teach safety skills, including rope management, belays, knots, and climbing communication.

Who doesn’t love creating their own story? What would your story say? Create your own story through arts and crafts, pictures, books, and storytelling.

It doesn’t matter if you have never played or if you are a sports enthusiast. Ignite a passion for all sports in this fun-filled camp. Improve kicking, running, jumping and throwing skills while focusing on teamwork and good sportsmanship. Sports include: basketball, soccer, relay races, fun field games and more.

Jump into the MJCC pool for pool games while learning water safety, stroke technique, lifesaving skills, and more. Kehila and Ruach campers will swim in the main pool. Dry off and enjoy games and activities outside and in the MJCC gymnasium.

World Cooking

Learn how to cook dishes from around the world including recipes from Mexico, Israel, Spain, and much more.

Simcha provides a structured schedule in a comfortable and safe atmosphere. Our youngest campers can relax and have fun in our joyful camp environment. We encourage campers to get messy, be silly, get active, be outside and explore the world around them.

Classic Camp Details

Camp groups will be divided age appropriately. Classic campers swim in our warm water pool. See page 11 for more details about swimming. Classic Camp ends with a Shabbat celebration every Friday at 12:15 pm. Themes and activities will change weekly, but the counselors and routines will be consistent.

Simcha Swimming

Simcha Classic campers swim in our warm water pool Monday through Friday. Twice per week swim lessons include floating, kicking, body position, arm strokes, water safety and underwater skills. Three days per week, the warm water pool will be available for Simcha Classic Camp open swim. For campers participating in Tu/Th only, swim lessons are not available.

Classic Camp Details

Classic campers swim in our main pool with swim lessons two times a week and open swim three days a week including the pool float on Fridays. See page 11 for more details about swimming. Classic Camp ends with a Shabbat celebration every Friday at 3:30 pm. Parents are invited to attend. Themes and activities will change weekly, but the counselors and routines will be consistent.

Camp Kef invites 5th + 6th graders for more trips, more challenges, more independence - and don’t worry, there’s still plenty of Kef to go around! Campers will enjoy different activities each week depending on which adventure you choose.

Junior Einsteins

Explore science with Lego engineering, wacky experiments, and logic games. Ask questions and find answers as a curious scientist!

Junior Leaders

Participate in a summer leadership experience. Help create fun programming for various camp groups, shadow and assist camp counselors, and help prepare Friday Funday activities! Learn leadership skills to help you become a camp counselor one day. You will also get to participate in traditional camp activities such as archery, swimming, crafts, and more!

PDXpedition

Get to know Portland by hiking, biking and eating your way through different parts of Portland. Explore Forest Park, the waterfront, some of Portland’s famous food carts, and even a special trip to Voodoo Doughnut.

Pre-Care and After-Care

• Registration confirmation will be emailed once it has been processed.

Pre-registration is required. Supervised fun to provide more flexibility to your summer schedule. We do not prorate Pre-Care and After-Care weekly rates, but daily After-Care rates are available.

• Weekly schedules and more specific camp info will be emailed the Friday before each new camp week begins.

MJCC Pre-Care Ballroom (7:30 - 9:00 am) Cost: $25 per week. Member: $20 per week.

• Stay up-to-date on camp happenings through Facebook, weekly camp email updates, and our website: www.oregonjcc.org.

MJCC After-Care Pick up on the green* (4:00 - 6:00 pm) Open to all campers participating in a 9:00 am - 4:00 pm camp or Extended Day. Cost: $35 per week. Member: $30 per week. Daily After-Care: $10 per day. Member: $8 per day. *Simcha campers pick up on the preschool playground at 1:00 pm.

• Look for Janelle to greet you on the green in the mornings and answer questions.

Lunch & Snacks

Bring a vegetarian (meat and shellfish free) snack, lunch and a water bottle. Campers will also have the option of purchasing kosher lunches on a weekly basis from Cafe at the J. Order forms will be available online and will be attached to your emailed camp confirmation. Camp does not provide snacks.

Curbside Morning Drop-off

Extended Day (1:00 - 4:00 pm)

Did you participate in MJCC Specialty Camp, Camp Simcha or PJA Summer Discovery? Expand your camp experiences with MJCC Extended Day. Structured activities include arts + crafts, games, swimming and sports. Simcha campers enjoy quiet time after lunch to read, sleep or play quietly before starting afternoon activities. Campers are not required to sleep. Kehila and Ruach pre-registration is required. We are not able to prorate MJCC Extended Day weekly rates. Simcha Options M-F Cost: $118 per week. Member: $98 per week. M/W/F Cost: $83 per week. Member: $68 per week. Tu/Th Cost: $61 per week. Member: $51 per week. Kehila + Ruach Options Cost: $115 per week. Member: $97 per week.

Kehila, Ruach + Kef (9:00-9:10 am) Tuesday through Friday, June 21 - Aug. 19 We offer a fast and simple morning drop off option for our Kehila, Ruach and Kef campers. Mondays you will be required to walk your camper in and check in with their counselors. However Tuesday through Friday you will have two options. Option one: drop your camper off from your car to our eagerly awaiting counselors curbside who will escort them to their camp group on the green. Option two: park your car and walk them to the green. Either way we will greet your campers with a smile and by name! Simcha campers should be walked by the parent to the classroom daily.

Register at the fair on March 13 and receive 5% off. Register online at oregonjcc.org/daycamp or fill out a registration form at the camp office after March 13. Payment is due at the time of registration. Enrollment fees totaling $500 or less must be paid in full at the time of registration and may be paid by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard or AMEX. Enrollment fees over $500 may be split into two payments: one at the time of registration and the other on or before May 31, 2016. We offer MJCC member discounted rates. Cancellations + Refunds

MJCC Day Camp reserves the right to cancel camp programs due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. Should cancellations occur, Day Camp staff will contact the parents/guardians prior to the camp and refunds or transfers will be given. Typically, this will occur seven to ten days before a camp begins. MJCC Day Camp also reserves the right to dismiss a camper whose behavior violates our Behavior Agreement, in which case no refund is given.

1. Go to oregonjcc.org/daycamp. Click on Register Now. 2. If you have a log in and password, go ahead and log in. If you do not, you can register as a guest. 3. Choose MJCC Day Camp. 4. Register one child at a time. Choose which camp - Simcha, Kehila, Ruach or Kef. 5. Select one camp for one child you would like to register. 6. Select Camper.

Any changes or cancellations will be charged $50 per camp. Cancellations made within 14 days of the start of a camp will not be refunded.

7. If you wish to register for more camps for that camper, click “add more camp.”

Vacation Day Camps

9. Choose pre-care and after-care options.

MJCC offers vacation day programs for kids during days off from school. Keep them busy at the MJCC with sports, swimming, gymnastics, arts and crafts, games and more. For all the details, visit oregonjcc.org/vacationcamps.

10. Download the health form and return it to the MJCC in person, by email or fax. 11. Review enrollment summary. If you wish to register another child, click “add another camper” and return to step #4. 12. Choose add to cart and finish payment.
