To MJCC Day Camp!
We provide quality programs that are ageappropriate, fun, and safe for rising kindergarten through 10th grade. At the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, There is no such thing as a typical day at camp, but there are a few things you can count on. From the moment you drop your camper off to the moment they climb back in the car to go home at the end of the day, we make sure that a good (and safe!) time is had by all. Through socialization, arts and crafts, sports, games, and imaginative play, we encourage growth, inspire confidence, and provide the framework for lasting memories and friendships. Our camp is imbued with a sense of Simcha (joy), Kehila (community), Ruach (spirit), and Kef (fun). Throughout all of our programs, we encourage discovery and self-expression. The MJCC welcomes everyone, regardless of religious affiliation.

Protocols regarding COVID-19 Just as we did last summer, we are working diligently to ensure the best experience possible for campers during the upcoming summer. Prioritizing the health and safety of our campers, families, and staff members is our top priority. This summer, we will again adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Oregon Health Authority in regards to the programming that we will be permitted to offer. Please check our website (oregonjcc.org/daycamp) in the months to come for the most updated camp offerings for this summer.
Though summer 2021 state guidelines are in the process of being finalized, we expect that camp will run in a similar fashion as last summer with enhanced safety and disinfecting procedures, stable groups, and physical distancing. Our program will continue to expand throughout the summer as guidelines evolve. We are proud that our 2020 summer ran for ten weeks with zero reported COVID cases due to our diligent efforts.

It takes a great staff to make a great camp. We carefully screen and interview candidates to ensure that we hire staff who are committed, hardworking, enthusiastic role models for kids. All of our staff undergo a criminal background check and are certified in First Aid and CPR. All camp staff participate in our intensive, multi-day staff training. Many of our camp staff return to us year after year, and our campers are excited to see their favorite counselors each summer.

age groups Sababa | Cool (Ages 3 - 4) Half-day: 9 am - 1 pm Full-day: 9 am - 4 pm
We aim to offer your child a summer of exciting exploration and nurture your child’s development to help them make connections to the world around them. We inspire imagination through hands-on activities and large and fine motor skill development while balancing individual needs and interests. Though this program will encompass some of our normal camp activities, there are some specific differences due to this age group. Sababa campers will remain in a consistent small group. They will still participate in activities around the weekly camp themes and have Jewish enrichment activities on their own. Sababa campers will go outside as much as possible and celebrate Shabbat within their group on Fridays. Full-day campers will have quiet time/nap time after lunch. Campers must be potty trained.
Simcha | Joy (Kindergarten) Classic half-day: 9 am - 1 pm Classic full-day: 9 am - 4 pm Specialty half-day: 9 am - 12 pm*
These young campers want to have fun and explore. Camp can be challenging for our youngest friends - just as they have gotten their routine down at school or at home, they are in a new environment, doing new things. We recognize this and work to give our Simcha campers some extra TLC. Simcha introduces kids to camp, promoting fun, friendship, and life skills. Experiences will encourage your child to make new friends, build social skills, develop teamwork, inspire imagination, and foster creativity. Simcha provides a well-rounded foundation for the future. With smaller camper-to-counselor ratios, experienced counselors, structured activities, purposeful play, and naptime option for full day campers, we aim to balance the needs and interests of each child. Campers must be fully potty trained.
*For Specialty Camps: See grid on pages 10-11 for times and options. See pages 14-15 for descriptions.

Kehila | Community (Grades 1 - 2)
Classic: 9 am - 4 pm Specialty half-day: 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm*
Kehila engages campers in a wide variety of ageappropriate activities within a well-planned and structured format. Campers are encouraged to try new things, work as a team, think outside the box, and be creative. We promote curiosity, persistence, and self-control. Campers will gain self-confidence and adaptability, all while having fun and making new friends.
Ruach | Spirit (Grades 3 - 4)
Classic: 9 am - 4 pm Specialty half-day: 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm*
Tailored to their growing interests and activity levels, Camp Ruach promotes social skills, adaptability, and self-confidence. Campers are encouraged to collaborate and co-create with one another in an environment that promotes positivity and growth. We strive to instill accountability, initiative, and creativity and provide campers with the support to try new things and explore new interests.
Kef | Fun (Grades 5 - 6)
Classic 9 am - 4 pm Specialty half-day: 9 am - 12 pm and 1 - 4 pm*
Camp Kef generally offers field trips and adventures for our oldest campers, and like many things this year, Kef will look a little bit different. Though we will be staying on campus throughout the summer, we will still have the opportunity for exploration, discovery, and most importantly, social interaction with peers. We aim to foster valuable life skills with Kef campers, such as, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. Campers have the opportunity to work as a team and build independence, all while having “Kef” (fun)!
CIT (Grades 7 - 10) Classic 9 am - 4 pm
This leadership development program is designed to empower teens by offering new responsibilities, challenges, and adventures including working with younger campers and team-building. CITs will gain real life experience and skills that will teach them how to be positive mentors and leaders. CITs will work closely with trained and experienced staff in a fun, fast-paced setting; participate and help lead in team spirit; and create and run their own activities. Our CIT program is a great stepping stone for youth and gets them ready for enhanced responsibilities. Many of our CITs go on to become camp counselors or land their first job, and they thank their CIT experience!

Classic camp Simcha, Kehila, Ruach, Kef + CIT Weekly: June 21 - August 20
Classic camp includes sports, cooking, Jewish culture, drama, nature, arts + crafts, and swimming (If guidelines permit). Campers often stay with the same counselor throughout the summer, providing a sense of consistency and helps to keep campers feeling safe and comfortable. Classic camp has a different theme each week! Campers create crafts, play games, and do activities that revolve around the theme. See pages 10 - 11 for the themes. We go outdoors as often as possible, but have the opportunity to stay indoors as well. All Classic campers celebrate Shabbat on Fridays.
Swimming
In previous years, our campers have pool time each day. It has always been one of the great benefits of MJCC Day Camp! Current state restrictions due to the pandemic have shifted many aspects of camp, including swimming. Our hope is that state guidelines continue to evolve and that our campers will have the opportunity to swim this summer. We have an outstanding aquatic facility that allows kids to enjoy the water safely under the close supervision of Red Cross certified lifeguards. Stay tuned for updates on swimming as we continue to evolve our program to align with the state requirements.
specialty camps Simcha, Kehila, Ruach + Kef Simcha, Kehila + Ruach are available: June 14 - 25 and August 16 - 27. Understand your body from the atoms on up!
Scene of the Crime
Blood spatter and brain matter, oh my! Not for the weak-hearted, this camp will let your scientist’s inner CSI scream! Enter the crime scene and see if your team can solve the crime by observing, interrogating and analyzing the evidence that you collect. Children experience how science is used to collect, analyze and understand what evidence is telling us about a crime scene.
