WELCOME
Dear Friends,
Have you registered for summer camp yet? On-line registration is open for this summer’s MJCC Summer Day Camp which promises to be more fun, exciting, and engaging than ever! Our programs serve three year-olds through rising high school sophomores, so there is something for everyone! Spots are filling quickly, and I urge you to sign up early.
Our commitment to serving youth and young families doesn’t end with camp, of course. Join us for our new series of Family Programs (see page 12). Our Family Movie Night on Feb. 25 was a huge success, and we have additional events planned in April and June. Our April event is “Bounce in the Bubble,” and we look forward to welcoming families into the SportsPlex for an afternoon of fun, bouncing in the bounce house, and enjoying crafts projects and snacks. In June, we’re planning our first-ever “Indoor Yard Sale.” We hope you’ll join us!
The MJCC’s role as program sponsor for PJ Library is one of many other ways that the J is expanding its service to young families. If your family includes at least one Jewishidentifying adult and you aren’t yet enrolled in PJ Library, please visit our website to learn more, or join us at our monthly PJ Library Indoor Playground event, sponsored by PJ Library.
Cultural opportunities abound, as always. On March 17, we will feature the Amos Hoffman Noam Lemish Quartet, which offers an inspired blend of jazz and Jewish folk melodies. They were exceptionally well-received during their last MJCC concert a number of years ago, and we’re pleased to bring them back.
The “Day for the J” is back this year, and we’ve reimagined it to be more exciting than ever! On Sunday, May 19, we’ll start the day with a wellness open house, including programs for kids and a variety of sports and recreation clinics for families, including pickleball, family open swim, family fitness classes, indoor playground, bounce house, foosball, ping pong, chair massages, and more! In the afternoon, we’ll hold our annual awards ceremony, recognizing this year’s Pillar of Excellence Award winner, Priscilla Kostiner, as well as the high school winners of the Glickman Scholar Athlete Award and the new inductee(s) into the Oregon Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Following a reception and social hour, we’ll present the award-winning film of the play, “The Last Cyclist,” featuring a talk-back with the playwright, Naomi Patz.
Interested in learning about and/or celebrating Israel? On March 13, we’ll be presenting an in-person talk by Israeli geopolitical expert and intelligence analyst, Avi Melamed, founder of Inside The Middle East. The community’s ceremony to observe Yom HaZikaron returns to the MJCC on the evening of May 12. This year’s celebration of Yom Ha’Atzmaut, immediately following on May 13, promises to be bigger and better than ever, thanks to a generous grant from the JCC Association and the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs. We’ll be presenting TLV, the premier Israeli music cover band in America. Their last performance at the MJCC, during the pandemic, was amazing, and you definitely won’t want to miss them!
We’re tremendously excited to be presenting all of these programs + events – and much more, as described in the pages of this Guide - and look forward to seeing you often!

MJCC is the administrator of PJ Library
Reading to your children has shown its impact on a child’s development. Even the mere presence of books in a home increases the level of education they can reach.
PJ Library sends free, award-winning books that celebrate Jewish values and culture to families with children from birth through 12 years old. Something magical happens when
parents sit down together to read with their children.
PJ Library supports MJCC programs like Lighting + Latkes, New Year's at Noon, and PJ Library Indoor Playground.

SUPPORT THE MJCC!
As we get ready to sprint into spring, and prepare for new and exciting offerings here at the J, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support. Your contributions help us maintain cuttingedge facilities, offer diverse fitness and health and wellness programs, and foster a positive, welcoming community for all.
The Mittleman Jewish Community Center is recognized by the community as a safe and welcoming place for thousands in Multnomah County to gather, work-out, play and commune.
Please consider becoming a donor. Your gift of any size is needed and appreciated. We offer programs and services for little ones to older adults and everyone in between. Hundreds of MJCC members, guests, and community members come through our doors for programs, services, and events on a daily basis. Membership, program fees and rentals account for approximately 86% of our annual revenue, and we are dependent upon donations and grants to make up the difference.
Here is what your generous tax-deductible donation to the MJCC supports:
• New equipment in our fitness center, gymnasium and studios;
• Day Camp scholarships;
• Cultural and holiday programming that celebrates our Jewish community;
• Need-based financial assistance to ensure that everyone has access;
• Competitive salaries to retain staff and trainers that are the face of the JCC;
• Updates to the ballroom and the lobby and so much more!
Over the years, our programs and services have evolved and expanded, but our mission remains unchanged - to be an inclusive and welcoming hub for a diverse community, fostering lifelong wellness and providing dynamic social and educational experiences, grounded in Jewish values and culture.
Here are a few ways you can support the J:
• Become a member The Friends of the Center Society by donating $360 or more. Friends of the Center Society members get invited to exclusive events and programs throughout the year;
• Donate appreciated stock or a minimum retirement distribution and avoid capital gains (please discuss with your tax professional);
• Become a Sustaining Member for $1800/year (tax deduction depends on your membership cost);
• Add a monthly donation on to your membership; and
• Join the MJCC Legacy Society. You can support the MJCC with an afterlife gift from your will, trust, retirement plan, IRA, or life insurance policy.
Thank you for your support of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. Donate at oregonjcc.org/donate.
For more information about how you can support the J, please contact Bess Butterworth, Development Events and Community Programs Manager at bbutterworth@oregonjcc.org or at 503.452.3427.

JCCA Membership Perk
As a member of JCCA, the Mittleman Jewish Community Center enjoys many perks. One perk is mutual reciprocation with membership at other JCCA member facilities. The MJCC welcomes all out-oftown JCC members for a maximum of 14 non-consecutive days per calendar year. After 14 days, we have a special offer of $12 per day per person. Members of the MJCC will enjoy reciprocal membership at other JCCA facilities according to that location’s specific policy. Make sure to bring your member ID card!
