WELCOME
Dear Friends, Happy summer! This continues to be a very exciting time at the MJCC for a number of reasons.
First, as I discussed in our Spring Program Guide, the MJCC is implementing a new strategic plan that has a significant focus on serving youth and young families. Our successful programs for children and families during the “Day for the J” and the community Yom Ha’Atzmaut celebration were great examples of the sort of family-focused events that we’ll be offering in the months ahead, especially as we continue to expand our PJ Library programming. You can pick-up a brochure about our new strategic plan in the lobby of the J, or find it online at oregonjcc.org/strategic-plan.
During the summer, we turn our attention to MJCC Summer Day Camp, and we’re delighted to present a camp program that is more varied, inclusive, and innovative than ever! Limited space remains for some ages during a few weeks, and you can register at oregonjcc.org/daycamp.
Second, we have begun the process of developing a new campus facilities plan. Our Design Team, consisting of a collaboration of Portland-based Opsis Architecture and Chicago-based 180 Studio, kicked off the process with on-campus discussions and workshops in January and March. These sessions allowed the Design Team to gather input from MJCC Board members, staff, and members, as well as the Portland Jewish Academy community. We look forward to sharing the completed plan with you in the early fall.
For hours, administrative office closures, and special class offerings on holiday dates, visit oregonjcc.org.
Finally, we are nearing the completion of a number of significant projects to upgrade our facility. The installation of the new building-wide control system is nearly finished and will enable us to control heating, cooling, pool temperatures, water temperatures, lighting, and more for the first time in a year and a half. Other projects, including significant upgrades to the audio-visual systems in the Stern Family Ballroom, heating/ventilation/air conditioning systems, public address system, perimeter fencing, parking lot, and security infrastructure have been completed recently or will be done soon. We appreciate your support and patience as these projects have been undertaken during the past six months or more.
Summer is the perfect time to try something new! Come by the J to explore a new class, try out new fitness equipment, launch a new workout program with a member of our training staff, learn a new sport (pickleball, anyone?) or make a new friend.
See you at the J!

SUPPORT THE MJCC!
Your support allows us to enrich lives, build community, and inspire Jewish journeys.
The Mittleman Jewish Community Center is the home away from home for thousands of individuals and families in the Portland area.
As a nonprofit, we rely on gifts above and beyond membership dues. Membership, program fees and rentals account for only 86% of our annual revenue, and we are dependent upon donations and grants to make up the difference.
Your gift of any size is needed and appreciated.
Your generous tax-deductible donation to the MJCC supports:
• New equipment in our aquatics area, fitness center and Sportsplex;
• Expanded programming for youth and young families - our key strategic priorities in our new strategic plan;
• Cultural and holiday programming that puts the “Jewish” in MJCC;
• Need-based financial assistance for membership and Day Camp to ensure that no one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay; and
• Competitive salaries to retain staff and trainers that are the face of the JCC.
Over the years, our programs and services have evolved and expanded, but our mission remains unchanged - to be an inclusive and welcoming hub for a diverse community, fostering lifelong wellness and providing dynamic social and educational experiences, grounded in Jewish values and culture.
Ways to support the J:
• Donate $360 or more to the J’s Annual Campaign and become a member of “The Friends of the Center Society.” Members receive invitations to exclusive events and programs throughout the year;
• Donate appreciated stock or a minimum retirement distribution and avoid capital gains tax (please discuss with your tax professional);
• Become a Sustaining Member for $1800/year (tax deduction depends on your membership cost);
• Add a monthly donation to your membership; and
• Join the MJCC Legacy Society. You can support the JCC with an afterlife gift from your will, trust, retirement plan, IRA, or life insurance policy.
Thank you for your support of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. Donate at oregonjcc.org/donate.
For more information about how you can support the J, please contact Steve Albert, Executive Director at salbert@oregonjcc.org or 503.244.0111.
