Dear Friends, Pickleball is here! The fastest growing sport in America is now available at the MJCC. The gymnasium is reserved for pickleball at designated times on Wednesdays and Sundays. You can also play during open gym hours, on a first-come, first-served basis. We’ve got everything you need – paddles, balls, and courts! See page 14 for details.
We are also extremely excited to announce significant upgrades to our fitness facilities, thanks to a generous gift from Ralph Miller in memory of Sandi Miller z”l. Our new equipment began arriving at the start of November, and we’re rearranging the Fitness Center to improve your experience. Be sure to try out the new machines which provide new ways to enhance your strength, endurance, and overall health. We are also repainting the Fitness Center and locker rooms as the next phase in our ongoing improvement of spaces throughout the campus.
Our annual Fitness Palooza will take place on Saturday and Sunday, January 7 and 8 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. We encourage you to bring friends and family to see the upgraded Fitness Center and learn about our many group exercise classes, personal training, and other offerings. Speaking of group exercise classes, be sure to check out our newest offerings! We’ve recently added Ai Chi, Cardio Kickboxing, and additional evening classes – Cycle and Barbell Strength. Remember, we’ve made it easier than ever for parents of young children to participate in our group exercise classes with our expanded childcare hours. Drop-in child care and Club J (for older children) is now available evenings and Sundays. For details, see page 13.
We’re also expanding our afterschool class offerings with a new Cheer and Dance class for preschool and youth. This new class joins an existing wide array of offerings including Rock Climbing, Tae Kwon Do, Chess, Golf, Basketball, Soccer, and more! You can find information about all of our youth programs on pages 10 - 11.
We’re excited about our growing array of family programs and encourage you to join us for Erev New Year’s at Noon on Friday, December 30. Don’t forget about our upcoming holiday vacation camps, and please note that MJCC Summer Day Camp registration opens on March 1, 2023.
See you at the J!

We offer a comprehensive aquatics program. We have a 25-yard lap pool and a Warm Water Pool which is ideal for relaxation, recuperation, and recreation.
Both pools offer ADA-compliant accessibility lifts for those who need assistance getting in and out of the water. Our staff can show you how the lifts operate and can even assist you.
We are scheduling group lessons for members-only on a month-by-month basis.
Most of our swim lessons now feature a 4-to-1 swimmer-to-instructor ratio, which means more instructional time for every swimmer!

Warm Water Pool (92 - 94°)

Current region- and nation-wide aquatics staff shortages have kept our programs small as we work to hire and train instructors in order to offer the quality lesson programs we all love. We post monthly lessons on our website and include them in our weekly "What's Happening" email. Thank you for your patience as we work through these challenges!
Private and semi-private lessons may be scheduled in either pool, and are based on swim instructor availability, participant's schedule, and pool space. Availability may change each program session. When capacity is reached, new requests will not be accepted.
Check our website for private lesson availability at oregonjcc.org/privateswim Price per person.
Private: 5 x 1/2 hour (one-on-one) Cost: $255. Member Cost: $180. Semi-private: 5 x 1/2 hour (one instructor to two students) Cost: $188. Member Cost: $125. For more info, contact Sebastian Herr at sherr@oregonjcc.org

Your support allows us to enrich lives, build community, and inspire Jewish journeys.
The Mittleman Jewish Community Center is the home away from home for thousands of people from Multnomah County.
Please consider becoming a donor. Your gift of any size is needed and appreciated. We offer programs and services for little ones who have just joined our community to older adults well into their 90s and everyone in between. Hundreds of MJCC members, guests, and community members come through our doors for programs, services, and events on a daily basis. Membership, program fees and rentals account for approximately 86% of our annual revenue, and we are dependent upon donations and grants to make up the difference.
Here is what your generous tax-deductible donation to the MJCC supports:
• New equipment in our fitness center, gymnasium and studios;
• Day Camp scholarships;
• Cultural and holiday programming that puts the “Jewish” in MJCC;
• Need-based financial assistance to ensure that no one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.
• Competitive salaries to retain staff and trainers that are the face of the JCC.
• Sending student athletes to Israel (and Florida) with the JCC Maccabi games.
• Updates to the ballroom and the lobby and so much more!
Over the years, our programs and services have evolved and expanded, but our mission remains unchanged - to be an inclusive and welcoming hub for a diverse community, fostering lifelong wellness and providing dynamic social and educational experiences, grounded in Jewish values and culture.
Here are a few ways you can support the J:
• Anyone who donates $360 or more becomes a member of The Friends of the Center Society. Friends of the Center Society members get invited to exclusive events and programs throughout the year;
• You can donate appreciated stock or a minimum retirement distribution and avoid capital gains (please discuss with your tax professional)
• Become a Sustaining Member for $1800/year (tax deduction depends on your membership cost);
• Add a monthly donation on to your membership;
• Join the MJCC Legacy Society. You can support the JCC with an afterlife gift from your will, trust, retirement plan, IRA, or life insurance policy.
Thank you for your support of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. Donate at oregonjcc.org/donate.
For more information about how you can support the J, please contact Saul Korin, Director of Donor Engagement + Philanthropy at skorin@ oregonjcc.org or at 503.452.3427.
