1:18 SCALE 2003 HOLDEN MONARO CV8-R IN TURBINE GREY You would be hard pressed to find anyone in Australia who had never heard of the Holden Monaro, regardless of whether they are a motoring enthusiast or not. The Monaro is one of the most revered names in the Australian automotive industry and this iconic car has been turning heads in its numerous forms since its inception in 1968. While the original Monaros of the late 60’s and 70’s are unquestionably iconic and beautiful cars it was perhaps the development of the more contemporary third generation version in 2001 that further enhanced the legacy of this famous Holden beast. The third generation Monaro had a round-about way of making its appearance to the Australian Market. In 1998, Holden unveiled a Holden Commodore Coupe concept car at the Sydney Motor Show to much hype and acclaim, and it didn’t take long for the motoring media to describe it as the new Monaro. While it can be argued that it wasn’t the initial intention of Holden for this new concept to become an addition to an existing nameplate, public demand started growing and orders begun to flow in to the Holden HQ so the move was taken to re-design the concept for production. By 2001 the Monaro was launched at a reported cost of $60 million and 22 months of development.

After Holden initially released the CV6 with a supercharged 3.8L V6 and a CV8 5.7L GenIII V8 with the choice of a 6 speed manual or 4 speed automatic gearbox, a Series 2 model was released in 2003 which featured some slight upgrades including a new dashboard from Holden’s VY range, a new wheel design and some changes in the available colour range. The Series 2 range formed the basis for a special edition CV8-R Monaro, being the Turbine Grey version you can see above.
