THE BRITISH INSTITUTE OF CLEANING SCIENCE
Dear Members of BICSc Welcome to the Autumn Edition of The Standard As this is the final edition for 2016, we would like to take this opportunity to look back over the year. The last few months alone have seen many exciting projects and events come to life at BICSc. The BICSc Annual Awards and our first Educational Programme took place in September. We launched our new website in November, and our first series of Roadshows came to a close with our final event near Bristol. Our BBS team have also been busy visiting our clients in Dubai and learning more about the region. We would like to thank all of our members for their continued support over the year, and we hope you were able to join us at one of the many events we attended or hosted throughout 2016. We are now planning our schedule of events for 2017 so make sure you check our website and follow our social media channels to keep updated. If you would like to share any of your stories with us to publish in future copies of The Standard, please send them to marketing@bics.org.uk
Many thanks The British Institute of Cleaning Science
Hello from the verification team‌ As the end of 2016 fast approaches, The Verification Team would like to thank all of the centres that submitted entries for the 2016 BICSc Annual Awards. Congratulations to all of you who subsequently became finalists and winners. The standard of entries this year was extremely high which has shown us how committed you all are in undertaking training and assessments, as well as demonstrating your professionalism as assessors. We have had a busy few months which have seen new centres both ATO and ATE joining us, so a warm welcome to you all. Please do not hesitate to contact your verifier or customer support contact for advice or information. I would like to remind centres that the annual requirement to retain your assessor licence is five certificate requests per year, this does not include Licence to Practice requests. We are aware that centres with good staff retention and those that have trained and assessed all skills as required may reach a point where they feel this is unachievable. We will be reviewing this next year and will advise you once completed. Next year will also see the first review of the CPSS skills suite so we would welcome any feedback or suggestions for improvements. From all of us in The Verification Team, Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2017. Maureen Kelso Head of Standards & Verification

BBS Promote the Benefits of Accredited Training in Dubai In October, BICS Business Services (BBS), with the support of its local training provider The Middle East Academy of Training and Consultancy (MEATAC), visited Dubai to learn more about the cleaning challenges facing organisations in the area. The visit was the first of a number that BBS will arrange to gain a better understanding of how to support its customers to deliver a high-quality cleaning service. Tracy Rinaldi, Commercial Director, BICSc said “It was inspiring to see such passion for the people and industry that we work in from all of the companies we visited. The information we have gained from this trip has been very insightful and will help BICSc to adapt its services in the GCC accordingly. We are keen to promote the benefits of providing accredited training to cleaning operatives, which will enable them to deliver a consistently high standard of cleaning to their clients and building users.” BBS returned to Dubai on the 13th-17th November 2016 to attend the Middle East Cleaning Technology Week. 2016 Roadshow Tour Comes to an End By now you will have heard about our Roadshow events which ran at six locations across the UK throughout 2016. Our first Roadshow took place in May at Sealed Air Diversey Care in Northampton and was followed in June by our Roadshow in Canary Wharf, London at the impressive KPMG Head Quarters. We also visited Belfast, Manchester, Paisley and most recently Bristol for our final roadshow at the beautiful Tortworth Court Hotel. The events have been a huge success, and we have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback we have received from many of those who joined us. David Hughes who attended the Northampton Roadshow said “My colleague and I thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially the “Who’s hitching a free ride?” presentation delivered by Ken Hallett. It was very relevant to our workplace, and we have already put many of the learnings into action.” The Roadshows have given our members the opportunity to learn more about the cleaning industry from some key speakers as well as share inspiration from peers over a networking lunch. We were delighted to see lots of contact details exchanged across all of our events and hope our members have been able to take lots of actionable insights away with them.
Jo Begg, Customer Support Manager at BICSc who organised the events said “It has been great to meet so many of our members and for them to have the opportunity to network between themselves and share their industry experience. A special thank you to all of our partners and centres who kindly supported us by providing their venues free of charge; Sealed Air Diversey Care, KPMG, Aramark, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of the West of Scotland. Thank you also to Environmental Excellence Education, CIM Associates, Citation, KPMG, Aramark and BICS Business Services for giving their time to present. We hope to meet many more of our members at next year’s events.” Planning for our 2017 Roadshow schedule is already underway. We will offer five full day Roadshow events for next year with brand new presentation topics and plenty of networking time. The first Roadshow has been confirmed for the 27th April in Doncaster with further dates to be announced shortly. To register your interest for the 2017 Roadshows, please email marketing@bics.org.uk

Member News We would like to remind you about the upcoming change in our routes to membership. In recognition of the crucial role BICSc plays in protecting and improving the standards of the cleaning industry, we are making some important changes to the structure and routes to membership within the Institute. From the 1st of April 2017, BICSc will be focusing its routes to membership on education. New members will, therefore, be able to apply for one of the following three membership grades. The membership grade you are eligible for will depend on your level of training as follows: • PBICSc – to be eligible for this grade you must have completed Licence to Practice (LTP) training • CBICSc – to be eligible for this grade you must have completed Licence to Practice (LTP) as well as three further skills • LBICSc – to be eligible for this grade you must have completed Licence to Practice (LTP), seven further skills and be approved as an Assessor So what does this mean for existing members? If you are currently an ABICSc, MBICSc or FBICSc member then your membership will not be affected by these changes, and your membership grade will be protected. If you are not currently a BICSc member you can still apply for membership using the current grades as long as this is set up and payment is received by 31st March 2017. Educational grades are not affected by this change. We hope that our members will understand, that we are committed to protecting and improving the standards of the cleaning industry, and see this change as a significant step to encouraging BICSc members to develop their knowledge and understanding of the cleaning industry through accredited education.
