IMPORTANT NOTICE: The release of the recently updated Cleaning Professional’s Skills Suite (CPSS) is here…And its name? CPSS 2.0

Within the mandatory section we have also introduced a recommended unit, which may be used as an alternative to renewing the Licence to Practice on expiry after the three-year period or can be used as a unit in its own right. It’s a simple but effective way of renewing the licence. In the previous version of CPSS, once the candidate had successfully completed their Licence to Practice they would then choose from the core skills, which allowed them access to 25 skills. However this is where we have introduced the main changes to the Skills Suite. Following the Mandatory Units we

Base Units These are tasks that the cleaning operative would carry out on a daily basis with a total of 13 units to choose from.

BICSc Head of Education and Standards Maureen Kelso commented on the update: "CPSS 2.0 has been written taking into account practices in the cleaning industry that have changed overtime reflecting both the cleaning skill and the cleaning operative. The changes are based

This will ensure that the Assessor can deliver future assessments to be compliant with CPSS 2.0. There is a CPSS 2.0 feedback form available online for Assessors to leave their feedback. Be it good, bad or indifferent we want to hear from you! We greatly appreciate and value our customer’s comments and we will use this to incorporate the needs of the cleaning industry into our qualifications when we review CPSS 2.0 in three years time.

Cleaning Operatives will receive their Licence to Practice card upon completion of the assessment (typically completed in one day).

‘BEST PRACTICE AWARD’ PRESENTED TO MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY FOR THEIR CONSISTENT APPROACH TO CLEANING

The awards event at the annual British Association of Cleaning in Higher Education (BACHE) Conference 2014 held at Glasgow Caledonian University saw Manchester Metropolitan University’s facilities team win the ‘Best Practice Award’. The award recognised sweeping changes throughout the team which were introduced as part of a significant campus consolidation programme culminating in the opening of a new campus for the forthcoming academic year and seeing the rationalisation of seven campuses to two – one in Manchester and one in Cheshire.

Within the facilities teams, the consolidation programme was introduced to drive improvements in the following areas:

As a result of the implementation of new ways of working, MMU has now become an exemplar institution for others looking to introduce the BICSc standard in to their workplace – to date, colleagues from Manchester United, Keele University and NHS (Property Services) Manchester have visited to find out more about the standard in practice. A celebration event was held where the achievements of the facilities team were recognised by the Vice-Chancellor and Claire Twaites and Anthony Tyrrell with members of the All Saints Central Facilities team

team of in-house assessors to roll out and assess the training programme to over 200 domestic assistants across all sites. It was decided to use a pilot group to take the qualification forward, rather than rolling out a new way of working en masse. Workplace champions were approached for their willingness to learn and ability to embrace change. The pilot group attended an introductory session which included presentations from the departmental training manager and the Assessor themselves to outline the benefits of the training, from a systems improvement viewpoint and also for their own personal development. In order to establish best practice from the outset, the Assessor developed a plan to ensure they had suitable training facilities including sluice rooms and identified training areas that would cause minimum disruption to building users. The assessors also planned their approach to the units to be undertaken, scheduling them to enable a logical assessment schedule for
