PROMOTE YOUR BRAND IN THE IDEAL CONTEXT The Biennale Interieur sets itself apart with an outstanding context in which participants can present their brands and values. 2014 saw an open approach, with the introduction of grouped plug & play islands, vistas and central squares, in place of the endless rows of booths that can be found in traditional exhibition layouts. 2016 will explore this avenue further and continue the tradition of a strong scenographic identity.

architects they will enrich the Biennale with a vision that is rooted in the daily practice of creating places we live and work in, understanding hereby the fundamental role of furniture and interior design. With their intervention, the event Biennale Interieur promises to become a temporary ‘space’ where participants, visitors, professionals, guests designers, objects and installations will connect together into something unique: a catalyst that contributes to a meaningful and successful future in a changing social and economic reality.”

OFFICE KERSTEN GEERS DAVID VAN SEVEREN CURATORS OF BIENNALE INTERIEUR 2016 Renowned Belgian architects OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen have been appointed as scenographers and curators for INTERIEUR 2016. OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen will create a strong architectural envelope in and around the exhibition halls of Kortrijk Xpo in close collaboration with artist Richard Venlet and graphic designer Joris Kritis. They will involve international guests to complement their vision, with the aim to create a platform that will unite exhibiting brands as well as the best expressions of contemporary design.

With a track record stretching back to 2001, the studio of Kersten Geers (1975 / BE) and David Van Severen (1978 / BE) has tackled all kinds of projects from a radical point of view: quasi-utopian city proposals, frontier posts, single-family houses, government buildings, exhibition designs, pavilions and limited edition furniture. The setting by OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen will create a context that allows for an optimal presentation of the participants’ products.

Lowie Vermeersch, President Biennale Interieur npo

“Instead of looking towards the past, this lustrum edition of the Biennale Interieur is an invitation to focus more than ever on having a positive impact on the future of it’s participants and visitors. Therefore, Interieur is delighted that OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen are the curators of the 25th edition of the Biennale. As practising

“Interieur has a longstanding tradition of inviting a guest of honour or curator to complement the commercial backbone of the Biennale. The custom created cultural content of the Interieur – installations, exhibitions, lectures and events – acts as a trigger for extended visits and media interest but above all, it underlines the Biennale’s authority as a proactive platform for the newest design developments.”

The city programme of the Biennale INTERIEUR 2014 was a visually linked trail along the Buda Island in the heart of the city of Kortrijk. Some highlights of the 2014 city programme:

The Belgian Designers of the Year (2006–2013) worked together on the design for the Interieur Bistro. Encounters, experiences and Belgian hospitality took a central role.

Photo: Wouter Van Vaerenbergh

HALL 3 BY TAAT The Belgian-Dutch collective TAAT presented an experience that takes the idea of architecture as theatre to the extreme. HALL03 offered a Do-it-yourselftheatre-play that takes you to a hyper reality in which ordinary behaviour turns into unexpected performance.

GOOSE DE/RECONSTRUCTION For four nights during INTERIEUR 2014, the Kortrijk-based band GOOSE invaded four levels of the Buda Tower located on the Buda Island. GOOSE surprised the Interieur audience with a specially created design performance and united various disciplines with the aim to surprise, question, confuse and inspire.

“While the inaugural edition of the Interieur programme in the city of Kortrijk was strongly exhibition-driven - with stunning installations of Ross Lovegrove, Troika and others – the 2014 edition focused more on the night and event side of the Biennale. We recall memorable parties from partners like Architonic and Damn° magazine, debates in the Buda Factory, culinary experiences in the Interieur Bistro and the magical and memorable De/ReConstruction performances by the Belgian band Goose in the Buda Tower. The city programme brings Kortrijk alive during the day but especially at night, and will continue to do so in 2016.”
