The 25th edition of Biennale Interieur in the Belgian city of Kortrijk saw the main venue – the city’s Xpo trade fair – feature a series of real interiors. The curatorial programme, Silver Linings – Interiors, included installations commissioned or designed by the show’s curators, Brusselsbased architects OFFICE Kersten Geers and David Van Severen, together with artist Richard Venlet and graphic designer Joris Kritis. A good place to spot underexposed Belgian and European design talents. Giovanna Dunmall on Frameweb.com

Situated less than two hours by train from both London and Paris – but without the steep costs of either – Belgium is an ideal place to do business, which is probably why the Kortrijk furniture fair has been going strong for 25 years as of this week. Other good reasons: Maniera, Muller Van Severen, Sylvain Willenz, and all the other local creative powerhouses who pitch in to make it interesting. Monica Khemsurov on sightunseen.com

Guy-Claude Agboton on ideat.thegoodhub.com

The Biennale Interieur in the Belgian town of Kortrijk stands out from the design fair crowd, not least because of its accessible scale, judicious mix of conceptual installations and commercial brands and, above all, its enticing attention to detail.   Giovanna Dunmall on wallpaper.com

A BIENNALE WITH HISTORY
interieur.be
47
The Biennale boasts a long history featuring many guests of honor, designers and architects. The eighties were dominated by the Italian Memphis movement, the steel architecture of the French architect Jean Nouvel and the flamboyant excesses of designer Philippe Starck. In the nineties, minimalism triumphed with installations by British designer Jasper Morrison

and German designer Dieter Rams, amongst others. The noughties made a more colourful appearance with the imaginative exhibition by Spanish enfant terrible Jaime Hayon, the calculated poetry of Swiss Alfredo Häberli, and the Eastern precision of Japanese designer Junya Ishigami.
