Eid ul-Fitr (Arabic: ‫‘عيد ال فطر‬Īdu l-Fiṭr), often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "break-fasting"; and so the holiday symbolizes the celebration of break-fasting after completing the fasting of the entire month of Ramadan (calendar month) Muslims recite the following Takbir in the low voice while going to the Eid prayer

Eid ul-Fitr ‫‘ ال فطر عيد‬Īdu l-Fiṭr, often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "break-fasting"; and so the holiday symbolizes the celebration of break-fasting after completing the fasting of the entire month of Ramadan (calendar month). The first day of Eid, therefore, is the first day of the month Shawwal that comes after Ramadan. Eid-ul-Fitr Salat (Namaz in Urdu/Persian) is a Wajib (strongly recommended, just short of obligatory) or mandoob depending on which juristic opinion is followed Salat of two raka'ah (units). The Eid Salat is performed in Masjids or in some countries in open fields or community centres. This Salat should be performed with Jama’at (congregation) with extra six Takbirs, three of them in the beginning of the first raka'ah and three of them just before ruku' in the second raka'ah. Eid ul-Fitr is sometimes also known as the "Smaller Eid" (Arabic: ‫ ال صغير ال عيد‬al-‘īdu ṣ-ṣaghīr) as compared to the Eid al-Adha that lasts four days following the Hajj and is casually referred to as the "Greater Eid" (Arabic: ‫ال عيد‬ ‫ال كبير‬a -‘ du -kab r ). Muslims are commanded by the Qur'an to complete their fast on the last day of Ramadan and then recite the Takbir all throughout the period of Eid.

Common greetings during this holiday are the Arabic greeting ‘Eid Mubārak ("Blessed Eid") or ‘Eid Sa‘eed ("Happy Eid"). In addition, many countries have their own greetings based on local language and traditions. Typically, Muslims wake up relatively early in the morning, always before sunrise offer Salatul Fajr, clean one's teeth with a Miswaak or a brush, take a shower (Gosul) after Fajr, put on new clothes or the best available, and apply perfume. It is haraam, or forbidden, to fast on the Day of Eid. That is why it is recommended to have a small breakfast (as a sign of not being on a fast on that day) of sweet dish, preferably the date fruit, before attending the special Eid prayer (Salah). It is a Sunnah that the Sadaqat-ul-fitr, an obligatory charity, is paid to the poor and the needy before performing the ‘Eid prayer by all those adult Muslims who are required to pay Zakat. Muslims recite the following Takbir in the low voice while going to the Eid prayer: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha ilal lahu wal Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lilla hil hamnd. PAKISTAN FLOODS APPEAL 2010 Up to 2.5 million people have been affected by devastating floods in north-west Pakistan. Rescuers are struggling to reach 27,000 people still cut off by the floods, which are the worst in 80 years. At least 1,100 people have died and thousands have lost everything. "In the worst-affected areas, entire villages were washed away without warning by walls of flood water," the Red Cross said in a statement…August 2nd 2010. One of the first statements released after the floods in Pakistan. The latest figures show over 20million have been displaced and in dire need of food, water, medicines and shelter and over 2000 have been killed. An Emergency Floods Appeal Funds was organized and as time was of essence it was decided to hold a Charity Dinner Evening at The White Swan House, currently a base for the association made possible by Chairman Nazir Muhammad.

PAKISTAN ASSOCIATION BRISTOL FLOODS APPEAL PICTORIAL Angelina Jolie has visited Nowshera in north-west Pakistan to highlight the plight of more than 20 million people affected by the country's worst ever floods, in an effort to maintain global attention and compassion for the millions affected by the floods. The actress, a UNHCR goodwill ambassador, said the situation in Pakistan was "extraordinarily complex". The event was held at Council House, College Green and attended by members of the Pakistani Community in the region, Rt. Hon. Stephen Williams, MP, Councillor Jon Rogers of Bristol City Council, Sarah Ellen of Avon Fire & Rescue, Mohinder Singh Choudhry, Chairman Punjabi International Forum and a number of dignitaries and the Bristol business community. The event started with a prayer by Imam of St. Mark’s Mosque, Easton, Bristol.

The Harbourside, in Bristol, England, has hosted the Bristol Harbour Festival for 39 years, with about 200,000 visitors attending live music, street performances and a variety of live entertainment, this year the festival had a record attendance of 250,000 people.

The festival features music stages, a dance stage, street theatre performances, and water displays. A highlight of the festival is the Saturday Night Fireworks presentation. Most of the activities are held by the waterfront, so a significant part of the festival is connected with the seagoing vessels moored nearby.

ISLAMIC FAYRE 2010 An annual event organized by Bristol Muslim Cultural society, the event has grown from strength to strength and is a major show stopper in the South West.

R: What a fantastic performance. Is this your first time in UK. M: No, I have performed in UK before; my first appearance here was in 2004. R: What kind of artiste are you? M: I have acted in Pakistani movies, modeled, and acted in a variety of stage plays and also have done activities in current media. R: What is your preference? M: I prefer family oriented plays or movies, reason being families enjoy these kinds of plays and the audience is diverse. Pakistani culture is very rich, that revolves around families and unity. R: Which films have you starred in? M: I have starred in many movies, to name a few, Gheran, Do Bhand Pani, De Mehndi and chandni. R: Which are your favorite films? M: Gharana, an Urdu movie and Gharah Padebaz, a Punjabi movie.I enjoyed doing these two as the storyline was family based. R: Why perform in the UK M: When I travel to the UK, I want to demonstrate to my audience the culture of Pakistan, maybe some people miss this, and just to remind them of the sweet time that has passed and those that are not aware of the culture, to show them how much love there is. R: What message would like to give your fans and our readers? M: Come and watch our performances, they are especially for, with love from us and “wherever you are, stay with love.”

THE GENEROUS stranger who came to the aid of cancer sufferer Nikki Blunden has personally delivered the drugs which could prolong her life. Kind-hearted Nazir Mohammed drove from Bristol to Nikki's home in Bromhall Road, Dagenham with the first batch of lapatinib on Wednesday. As exclusively revealed in the POST, terminally ill Nikki was denied the breast cancer medicine, which could extend her life by months, by NHS Barking and Dagenham which said it was not cost effective.
