PERSONAL STATEMENT

“The mother [earth] is architecture. Without an architecture of our own we have no soul for our own civilization.” — Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture is...earth. Architecture is wind. Architecture is water. Architecture is fire. Architecture is light. We first find and build shelters to either block out or open up to these elements no matter how little resources we have; floors as separation from earth, walls separate the wind, roof prevents rain and snow, hearth provides warmth and establishes the presence of man, and light not only for illumination but also as sign for danger or safety, that is our survival instinct. So we survived, from there we design. Architecture has evolved from just simple hut and thatched roof where humans built just to separate themselves from the elements and simply to be safe, to survive, and to guarantee the reproduction of offspring. Architecture now is the manipulation of these elements to further benefit our lives and well being, to advance in society, and most importantly not to destroy these elements that are the keys to our survival. As a goal oriented individual,I do not get distracted by the process but rather stays focused on the big picture – the goal. It is my mission as an aspiring architect, to thrive towards improving living standards of all people and to assure public safety. According to Vitruvius, the architect should strive towards the 3 principles of architecture — firmness, commodity, and delight; these might be enough for architects then but now architects should also consider sustainability. My designs are my expression of beauty through curvilinearity, explorations of sustainability and biomimicry, and pragmatic functionality. Nature evokes my senses in design. Nature doesn’t conform but grow away from conformity, it avoids corners. It reaches out for light and air. It fixes itself in someway somehow. If architecture can perform harmoniously like nature then we are truly designing the best architecture as we possibly can with the best of our abilities and potential as human race. I have chosen to embark this career to strive for a better future for the public. I believe that my existing skills and experience, together with my commitment to become an architect, and my aspiration for new experiences and knowledge makes me an ideal candidate for this career.

SOLARIS Bridge Pavilion Podium + Tower 40,000 sq. ft. W Bay St. Pedestrian Bridge. Savannah , Georgia. STUDIO OBJECTIVE _To re-imagine the concept of the architectural surface. Surface is refined and reconfigured for use as a generative device, one that initiates all phases of the architectural argument developing the formal and aesthetic logic, while also organizing the volumetric and programmatic parameters. The design challenge is new pedestrian thoroughfare for the Turner Overpass, connecting Turner Residence Hall with SCAD CafĂŠ in Savannah, Georgia. The project is hybrid-bridge pavilion that accommodates various public programs, including reading rooms, cafe, and gallery spaces.

STUDIO OBJECTIVE As New Orleans faces a future in which widespread abandonment is a real possibility, the team has been chosen to design a 20-Unit Apartment Building, a net zero affordable housing building for displaced residents of the 9th Ward and a Community Services Center, featuring community services, a Visitor’s and Green Building Resource Center, an arts and cultural component, and an emergency center. For emergency needs, a rain water harvesting system will collect water (with filtration bringing it to drinking water standards), and solar panels on the roof of the Center will charge batteries that will provide power for emergency.

It was built over thousands of years by the Mississippi River. The river picks up silt full of nutrients, minerals and soil particles all along its course. There is a natural coastal wetlands at the mouth of the Mississippi. This wetlands were replenished and fed every few years when the river flooded, and the silt and mud was spread over a wide area. These wetlands made a natural buffer and protection for New Orleans against storms and hurricanes moving over the Gulf of Mexico. As a hurricane moved over the miles of wetlands, it would lose some of its power. The wetlands would soak up a lot of the storm, and act as a shield for New Orleans. However, these wetlands have been disappearing at an alarming rate. Over the past 50 years, more than 1,000 square miles of Louisiana have been lost. If nothing is done to prevent this loss of wetlands, New Orleans and other coastal cities will be directly exposed to the Gulf storms. In that case, it will not take a major hurricane to devastate these cities: much smaller storms will be disastrous.

Architects today seek nature for inspiration and answers to solve design problems. Nature is our mentor, model, and measure. We have to recognize that we are a part of, not apart from, nature. Seeking nature’s advice at all stages of design may allow us one day become one with nature again. [Biomimicry] is the new design solution for the future, it identifies nature’s blueprints and emulate its time tested phenomena, patterns, and principles and mimicking how living organisms have survived and thrived over the 3.8 billion years life has existed on Earth. Identify patterns in nature and adapt these patterns will help us solve human problems.

In animate design, gradient forces are applied as direct abstract analogies for environmental influences, such as wind and water, and contextual phenomena, such as pedestrian and vehicular movements, urban vistas, configurations, patterns and intensities of use, etc. It is the dynamics of forces, or, more precisely, force fields, as an initial condition that produces the motion and the particular transformations of form, i.e. the digital morphogenesis. Objects interact with each other instead of just occupying space; they become connected through a system of interactions where the whole is always open to variations as new fields of influence are added or new relations made, creating new possibilities.

The concept was not all about the building, it’s about the surrounding elements, the environment, the wind and nature as a whole. The tower was designed to be suspended from the building and has circular platforms to allow a 360-degree view of nature. It ‘s also becomes part of the environment by it’s literal transparency of window glass walls and openings , the air and light move through the building uninterrupted as of they are moving through trees. This allows great circulation and sunlight to plants in side the building.
