PASSAGE
This site presents us with some challenges and opportunities. The site is split into 3 landing points due to the service road to allow access to the adjacent apartment complex. My initial approach to solve the critical disconnection between the building plans and design is to gradually raise platforms and paths to correspond to the steep slope and at the same time provide a proper clearance for service trucks and everyday traffic.

St. Johns TOWER 750 Bay St. Development Jacksonville, GA Mixed-use Podium + Tower 60,000 sq. ft. The proposed master plan aims to engage the public through architecture and to become a seamless interchange of public and residential activities. Constant pedestrian movement around the perimeter of the building, as well as public activities and traffic flow, sculpts its monumental architectural form establishing more than a static architectural state. It defines a new and regenerative commercial typology. It is a symbol of new architectural influence and the future of a new living center in Jacksonville.

SOLARIS Bridge Pavilion
Bridge Pavilion Pedestrian Bridge 150 ft. x 20 Ft. W Bay St. Pedestrian Bridge. Savannah , Georgia. The Turner Bridge Pavilion was required not only as a physical link between two locations, but as a new highly ornamented façade and canopy for the bridge. With Art-Nouveau inspirations, the pavilion is identifier, marker, icon and centerpiece for an old masonry pedestrian bridge. Only through stylized loudness of curvilinearity does the structures visual imagery break through the mundane surroundings to excite pedestrian’s awareness of its presence as well as experiential aspect through the interaction. The Pavilion transforms the old paths and functions as the space for exhibition, recreation, reading, round tables and rejuvenation.

NOLA BY [WATER] COMMUNITY CENTER & HOUSING Progression with Precaution Nature is our mentor, model, and measure. We have to recognize that we are a part of, not apart from, nature. Seeking nature’s advice at all stages of design may allow us one day become one with nature again. [Biomimicry] is the new design solution for the future, it identifies nature’s blueprints and emulate its time tested phenomena, patterns, and principles and mimicking how living organisms have survived and thrived over the 3.8 billion years life has existed on Earth. Identify patterns in nature and adapt these patterns will help us solve human problems. Community Center e er

Cheongyecheon Seoul, South Korea Urban Renewal project Although Cheongyecheon had received recognition for its achievement in urban revitalization and development and become the attraction of the city, however not all areas are equal, not all areas receive the same attention and maintenance, therefore, much improvements needed. These are our design guidelines to help us strategize and address issues that we find in this existing bridge area. In collaboration with Christa Iscoa Mohammed L. Mushaikh

Dongdaemun Gate

North Dongdaemun Gate
Ogansugyo Bridge sits between a clash of historic and modern. To the North Dongdaemun Gate represents the historic relevance of the site. To the South Zaha Hadid’s Dongdaemun Design Park (DDP) provides the site with its modern icon. This phenomena presents the site with a separation of identity due to the poor design integration between the old & the new.
Dongdaemun Design Park (DDP)
Existing Bridge condition
PEDESTRIAN-ORIENTED DESIGN 8 lane streets were transformed into 4 lanes to provide the pedestrian with street priority. Sidewalks will not remain outlines for pedestrian circulation on the city grid, but function as the catalyst that ties the street level adjustments together.
Structured by the newly designed canopy, Ogansugyo Bridge will now filter light to spaces underneath. Allowing the designed seating & circulatory spaces to provide the public with the adequate shading and light exposure. Overhang terraces offer the space futher shading, as well as viewports to points of interest. These overhangs also offer structured crossings from either side of the stream and street level.

Dongdaemun Gate
The usage of appropriately designed canopies will provide shading for the pedestrian, and will create continuity between the different spaces on site. Site specific gates will serve as an entrance for the pedestrian and frame the next destination as they will help guide the pedestrian through points of interest, as well as emphasizing the intended circulation. Green spaces created will complement its context and include seating, which will tie and relate to the sidewalks, gates, and street design. Water elements will flow North to South perpendicular to stream of Cheonggyecheon. This will unify the site, context, and design and will create a strong cohesive design proposal.

STREAM PATHS The change in material was a reacon to the homogeneous exisng concrete plaza’s that le the public spaces empty and lacking in experience. STREAM GRAND ENTRANCE The exisng underground access structures did not offer any funconal diversity. From which stemmed the concept of mulpurposing these structures through the integraon of public terraces to its design. These terraces would create public interest through the elevaon change that would offer important viewports that will ulmately act as a guide for the pedestrian to the next desnaon.
