FRENCH BROAD RECREATIONAL & COMMUNITY CENTER Mixed-use Rec.Center + Community 30,000 sq. ft. Multi-story Asheville,North Carolina. STUDIO OBJECTIVE (FIRST HALF) _Mixed-use commercial space focusing on indoor/outdoor recreationalactivities. _Programs includes:
-retail space -learning rooms -lecture hall -lodging spcace _The building will be part of the Asheville park system.

WATER MANAGEMENT Using bio-swales, shallow ponds, and multi-functional french drains to divert rain and other surface water into natural drainage patterns or a storm sewer system. Grey water is collected in cisterns in various locations throughout the site for irrigation and reuse in the facilities.

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL FRENCH DRAIN The multi-functional french drain works as a drainage trench and also as a unique walking path up and across the landscape. The drain water collected is then filtered and reused in the reflecting pool.

LIBRARY SECTION AA
Books are stored underneath the elevated platform and terraces. The terraces are used as seating areas.
LIBRARY Terrace seatings create less site excavation and work as an embarkment constructed across sloping ground with a steep drop on the downside.

The columns establish a sense of institution as one transitions to the classrooms. In the gallery, the views are open to let the natural light in exposing what is inside. Classrooms are shaded and recessed to focus the views.
