From the Di rector’s Desk
Volume1 No:1
City Office: Pattom Thiruvananthapuram 695 004 JANUARY 2013
I am very much pleased and honoured by the release of a quarterly issue of our Campus News/Magazine which will keep everyone with the updated developments in the campus. Our Institution is growing day by day which started with 117 students, 23 faculty and 17 Supporting staff with four branches in 2004 to a level of 6 branches, 126 well qualified and experienced faculty members, 56 supporting staff and six B.Tech branches. In addition, we have 4 Post-Graduate Courses (M.Tech) in Electronics & Communications and Computer Science & Engineering. We have sufficient infrastructure with well equipped laboratories (34 Nos) and adequate buildings. New main building has the capacity to conduct classes for all six branches from S3 to S8. Also it has six seminar halls, drawing halls, Accounts, Administration and Faculty rooms. The Director, the Principal and all Heads of Departments are provided with excellent rooms with all other paraphernalia. Separate building is assigned for PG Courses. A new ladies hostel has been commissioned recently. Both the ladies and men’s hostels have ideal facilities. Well equipped play grounds are available for volley ball, basket ball, shuttle badminton, and so on. Indoor games are provided in both hostels. TV and recreation rooms are also available in both hostels. Currently, we have a fleet of 15 buses of our own and five new light vehicles for the conveyance of senior teachers in the place of 15 rented buses used earlier. We have an excellent Research & Development centre from where many products useful for common man have emerged out. Two technologies have been transferred to companies and still two are in their offing. Kumari Jayalekshmi our Hon: Minister for Adivasi development, has inaugurated our prestigious project “Tele-diagnostic - Telemedicine and Tele education” which had been implemented by us in Wayanad. The Government is planning to extend that facility to other parts of forests area where ‘Adivasis’ dwell. Our results are improved and often go above 45% which has to further go up to 70% in the coming years. Faculty development programmes, recruitments (Campus Selection), Training for Students etc., are also given for betterment of the results. With everybody’s co-operation, our campus is progressing well and we hope for the further nourishment and growth in the years to come. K.R. Kaimal Director

I am extremely happy with the decision of the Management to publish a Quarterly News Letter. Without any doubt this will become a powerful medium of information among the students and the staff. Starting from 2004, our Institution has made all round progress in infrastructure, academic programmes and in all other amenities such as Hostel & Library. In a short span of time our students made our college proud by securing the University Ranks in academics and many titles like ‘Kalathilakam’ and ‘Kalaprathibha’ in the University Cultural Fest. Started with four B.Tech courses, currently we have six B.Tech courses and four M.Tech courses. So now by publishing this News Letter, I hope it will keep our students and staff up to date with the events happening in the college. News letter can also be used as a platform to focus the latest development in Science and Technology and to share innovative ideas to improve the quality of technical education for the benefit of students. I wish all the success to the launch of 1st edition of our News Letter. Dr. M.K. Jana Principal

Tele-medicine and Tele-education
- An Innovative Project
Very recently we took up an important humanitarian project - the ‘Telemedicine and Tele-education’ in Waynad District of Kerala. This programme started in Kalpatta in the year 2008 was inaugurated by our beloved former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. ISRO Bangalore and Kerala State Planning Board offered a helping hand in initiating this project. Later in 2010, I signed the MoU with Planning Board. In 5 more Village Resource Centers at Sulthan Bathery, Mananthavady, Noolpuzha, Kalpatta and Meppady were started with facilities like class rooms as well as offices to educate and empower the illiterate and to provide the medical benefits, consultation with specialists of RCC, SCT, etc. through Telemedicine programme. We are also guiding the farmers of that region by conducting soil testing, weather forecasting, supplying seeds and guiding them for cultivation, bio-manures, yield taking, etc. using the expertise of well qualified officers and directors
