MEASUREMENTS

Bonnet - Fits around face (approx) 29/31 (35/37) cm

Booties - Fits foot (approx) 8/10 (9.5/11.5) cm

YARN

Willow DK 100g x 1 ball for each set.

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

A pair 4mm Knitting Needles and 2 double pointed 4mm Knitting Needles (for Booties) or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle.

TENSION

21 sts to 10 cm in width over garter st, using 4mm needles.

BONNET

Using pair 4mm needles, cast on 63 (78) sts. Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 13.5 (15.5) cm from beg, working last row on WS and dec 2 (0) sts evenly across last row = 61 (78) sts.

Shape Crown - 1st row (RS) - K1, * K2tog, K8 (9), rep from * to end = 55 (71) sts. 2nd and foll alt rows - Knit.

3rd row - K1, * K2tog, K7 (8), rep from * to end = 49 (64) sts.

5th row - K1, * K2tog, K6 (7), rep from * to end = 43 (57) sts.

7th row - K1, * K2tog, K5 (6), rep from * to end = 37 (50) sts. Cont dec in this manner (working 1 less st between dec) in every foll alt row until 7 (8) sts rem. Break off yarn, leaving a long end.

Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

I Cords (make 2)

Using double pointed 4mm needles, cast on 3 sts. 1st row (RS) - K3, do not turn.

Slip sts to other end of needle, pull yarn firmly across back of work and rep 1st row. Work each row in same direction until i-cord measures 40 cm from beg.

Break off yarn, thread end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends. Using a flat seam, join side edges of crown tog.

Neatly sew one end of each i-cord to each end of bonnet at neck edge (as pictured). Tie in a bow to wear.

BOOTIES

Using pair 4mm needles, cast on 29 (33) sts. Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 6 cm from beg, working last row on WS. Next row (eyelet row) - K1, * yfwd, K2tog, rep from * to end.

Next row - Knit.

Divide For Instep - 1st row - K19 (21), turn. 2nd row - K9, turn.

Knit 12 (14) rows garter st = approx 3 (3.6) cm. Break off yarn. Leave sts on needle. With RS facing, rejoin yarn and knit up 6 (7) sts evenly along first side of instep, knit across 9 instep sts, knit up 6 (7) sts evenly along rem side of instep, knit to end = 41 (47) sts.

Knit 5 (7) rows garter st.

Shape Foot - 1st row (RS) - [K1, K2tog, K15 (18), K2tog] twice, K1 = 37 (43) sts.

2nd and foll alt rows - Knit.

3rd row - [K1, K2tog, K13 (16), K2tog] twice, K1 = 33 (39) sts.

5th row - [K1, K2tog, K11 (14), K2tog] twice, K1 = 29 (35) sts.

7th row - [K1, K2tog, K9 (12), K2tog] twice, K1 = 25 (31) sts.

Cast off loosely. Work another bootie in same manner.

I Cords (make 2)

Using double pointed 4mm needles, cast on 3 sts. 1st row (RS) - K3, do not turn.

Slip sts to other end of needle, pull yarn firmly across back of work and rep 1st row.

Work each row in same direction until i-cord measures 30 cm from beg.

Break off yarn, thread end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends. Using a flat seam, join back and foot seam. Thread i-cords through eyelet holes and draw up to fit.

Tie in a bow to fasten.
