MATERIALS

Ombre Velvet 200g x 5 balls

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

A pair 6mm knitting needles or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle.

TENSION

12 sts and 16 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 6mm needles.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION

M1 = make one st by picking up loop that lies before next st, place on left hand needle and knit into back of loop.

SQUARES (make 4 - each square measures approx 45 cm x 45 cm = 1 ball)

Note - Begin with lightest colour of balls and work to darkest colour. Using 6mm needles, cast on 3 sts.

Beg Increasing - 1st row (WS) - Knit.

2nd row - K1, M1, K1, M1, K1 = 5 sts.

3rd row - K3, M1, K2 = 6 sts.

4th row - K3, M1, knit to end = 7 sts.

Rep 4th row until side edges measure approx 45 cm (or half of the ball weight), working last row on WS.

Beg Decreasing - 1st row - K2, K2tog, knit to end. Rep 1st row until 5 sts rem.

Next row - K1, sl 1, K2tog, psso, K1 = 3 sts. Cast off.

Using half mattress st seam, join squares together, placing lightest colour at cast on edges in centre of blanket and darkest colours at cast off edges to outer corners of blanket.

BORDERS

With RS facing and using 6mm needles, knit up 108 sts evenly along lower edge of blanket.

Knit 4 rows garter st. Cast off loosely knitways. Work top edge in same manner.

With RS facing and using 6mm needles, knit up 113 sts evenly along one side edge (including lower and top borders).

Knit 5 rows garter st. Cast off loosely knitways. Work other side edge in same manner.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends.
