Classique Acrylic 8ply 100g

2 (2-3) x balls

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

1 pair 4.50mm Knitting Needles, or size that gives correct tension.

Cable needle; A yarn needle; 2 stitch holders.

TENSION

18 sts and 26 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 4.50mm needles.

This project has been worked on bigger needles than normally recommended.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS

Cable A = slip next 6 sts onto cable needle and leave at front of work, K6, then (K1, P1) 3 times from cable needle.

Cable B = slip next 6 sts onto cable needle and leave at front of work, (K1, P1) 3 times, then K6 from cable needle.

BACK AND FRONT (both alike)

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 56 (60-66) sts. Knit 4 rows garter st (1st row is WS).

5th row (WS) – K25 (27-30), inc once in each of next 6 sts, K25 (27-30) = 62 (66-72) sts.

Beg patt – 1st row (RS) – K24 (26-29), P1, (K1, P1) 3 times, K6, P1, knit to end.

2nd row – P24 (26-29), K1, P6, (P1, K1) 3 times, K1, purl to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows 3 times more.

9th row – K24 (26-29), P1, Cable A, P1, knit to end.

10th row – K25 (27-30), (P1, K1) 3 times, P6, knit to end = creates a ridge either side of cable.

11th row – K24 (26-29), P1, K6, (K1, P1) 3 times, P1, knit to end.

12th row – P24 (26-29), K1, (P1, K1) 3 times, P6, K1, purl to end.

Rep 11th and 12th rows 6 times more.

Last 32 rows form patt.

Cont in patt until work measures 24 (27-30) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Cont in patt until work measures 9.5 (10.5-11.5) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS. Shape Neck

– Next row (RS) – Patt 24 (26-29), turn.

** Cont on these 24 (26-29) sts and keeping patt correct, dec one st at neck edge in every row until 20 (20-21) sts

rem, then in every foll alt row until 17 (18-20) sts rem. Work 1 row.

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 9 (9-10) sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 8 (9-10) sts. **

Slip next 14 sts onto a stitch holder and leave. With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and patt to end. Rep from ** to **, working 1 row more before shoulder shaping.

SLEEVES

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 30 (30-34) sts. Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end. 2nd row – P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep 1st and 2nd rows 3 times more = 8 rows rib in total. Beg patt – Work 9 rows stocking st, inc one st at each end of 5th row, sizes 2 and 4 years only –then in foll 4th row = 34 (34-36) sts.

10th row – Knit = ridge.

Work 6 rows stocking st (beg with a knit row), inc one st at each end of 3rd (3rd-1st) row = 36 (36-38) sts. Last 16 rows form patt (noting that sts will be inc and a ridge is worked every 15 rows).

Cont in patt, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 4th (4th-6th) row until there are 44 (42-54) sts, then in every foll 6th (6th-8th) row until there are 48 (52-56) sts. Cont in patt without shaping until work measures 23 (28-33) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape Top – Working in stocking st only, cast off 6 sts at beg of next 6 rows.

Cast off rem 12 (16-20) sts loosely.

NECKBAND

Using mattress st, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing and using 4.50mm needles, knit up 12 sts evenly along left front neck, knit across sts from front stitch holder – dec 5 sts evenly across, knit up 12 sts evenly along right front neck, knit up 12 sts evenly along right back neck, knit across sts from back stitch holder – dec 5 sts evenly across, then knit up 12 sts evenly along left back neck = 66 sts. Work 5 rows rib as for cuff of sleeve, beg with a 2nd row.

Next row – Knit.

Next row – Purl. Rep last 2 rows once more. Cast off loosely knitways.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Join left shoulder and neckb and seam, reversing seam for stocking st rows and allowing these rows to roll to RS.

Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Darn in all ends.
