Slip next 14 (14-14-16) sts onto a stitch holder and leave. With RS facing, join yarn to rem 32 (35-38-41) sts and knit to end. Cast off 3 sts at neck edge in every foll alt row twice, then 2 sts in every foll alt row twice = 22 (25-28-31) sts. Cont until work measures 21 (22-23-24) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row.

Shape Shoulder – Complete as for other shoulder.

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

One pair each 4.50mm and 5.50mm Knitting Needles, or sizes that give correct tension. 2 stitch holders. A yarn needle.

TENSION

SLEEVES (worked from top down) Using 5.50mm needles, cast on 72 (76-78-82) sts. Work in stocking st until work measures 23 (22-21-20) cm from beg, ending with a knit row. Next row (WS) – P7 (9-10-12), * P2tog, rep from * to last 7 (9-10-12) sts, P7 (9-10-12) = 43 (47-49-53) sts. Change to 4.50mm needles.

17 sts and 21 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5.50mm needles.

Beg rib – Work 5 cm in rib as for lower band of Back, ending with a 2nd row. Cast off.

BACK Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 83 (89-95-103) sts. Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

NECKBAND

Work in stocking st until work measures 29 cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Using mattress st seam, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing and using 4.50mm needles, knit up 19 sts evenly along left front neck, knit across sts from front stitch holder – inc 4 sts evenly across, knit up 19 sts evenly along right front neck, 10 sts evenly along right back neck, knit across sts from back stitch holder – inc 5 sts evenly across, then knit up 10 sts evenly along left back neck = 97 (97-97-101) sts.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping. **

Work 3 cm in rib as for lower band of Back, beg and ending with a 2nd row.

Cont until work measures 21 (22-23-24) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row.

Cast off.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 5 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec 5 sts evenly across last row = 78 (84-90-98) sts. Change to 5.50mm needles.

Shape Shoulders - Cast off 7 (8-9-10) sts at beg of next 2 rows = 64 (68-72-78) sts. Shape Back Neck – Next row (RS) – Cast off 7 (8-9-10) sts, K17 (18-19-20) including st already on needle, turn. Next row – Cast off 9 sts, purl to end. Cast off rem 8 (9-10-11) sts.

FINISHING DO NOT PRESS. Join left shoulder and neckband seam. Sew cast on edge of sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Darn in all ends.

Slip next 16 (16-16-18) sts onto a stitch holder and leave. With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and knit to end. Complete to correspond with other side.

FRONT Work as for Back to **. Cont until work measures 15 (16-17-18) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row. Shape Neck – Next row (RS) – K32 (35-38-41), turn. Cont on these 32 (35-38-41) sts and cast off 3 sts at neck edge in next row and foll alt row, then 2 sts in every foll alt row twice = 22 (25-28-31) sts. Cont until work measures 21 (22-23-24) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row. Shape Shoulder – Cast off 7 (8-9-10) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row.
