Cast off rem 7 (7-8-10) sts. Slip next 2 sts (centre sts) onto a coloured and leave. With RS facing, join yarn to rem 44 (47-50-54) sts and knit to end. Dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row until 30 (34-38-41) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 28 (31-34-37) sts rem.

YARN

Cont without shaping until work measures 20 (21-22-23) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row.

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

Shape Shoulder – Complete as for other shoulder.

One pair each 4.50mm and 5.50mm Knitting Needles, or sizes that give correct tension. 1 stitch holder. A yarn needle.

SLEEVES Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 46 (50-54-58) sts.

TENSION

Beg rib – Work 5 cm in rib as for lower band of Back, ending with a 2nd row.

17 sts and 21 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5.50mm needles.

Change to 5.50mm needles. Work in stocking st, inc one st at each end of 5th row, then in every foll 6th row until there are 68 (72-76-78) sts.

BACK

Cont without shaping until work measures 46 (46-45-44) cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 94 (98-106-114) sts.

Cast off loosely.

Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end. 2nd row – P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 4 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec 4 (2-4-4) sts evenly across last row = 90 (96-102-110) sts. Change to 5.50mm needles. Work in stocking st until work measures 43 cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping. ** Cont until work measures 20 (21-22-23) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row. Shape Shoulders - Cast off 7 (8-9-9) sts at beg of next 4 rows = 62 (64-66-74) sts. Shape Back Neck – Next row (RS) – Cast off 7 (8-8-9) sts, K12 (12-13-15) including st already on needle, turn. Next row – Cast off 5 sts, purl to end.

NECKBAND Using mattress st seam, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing and using 4.50mm needles, knit up 44 (44-48-48) sts evenly along left front neck, K2 (centre sts) from coloured thread, knit up 44 (44-48-48) sts evenly along right front neck, 6 (6-6-7) sts evenly along right back neck, knit across sts from back stitch holder, then knit up 6 (6-6-7) sts evenly along left back neck = 126 (126-134-138) sts. 1st row (WS) – P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. 2nd row – Rib to within one st of 2 centre sts, K2tog, sl 1, K1, psso, rib to end. 3rd row – Rib to within one st of 2 centre sts, P2tog tbl, P2tog, rib to end. Rep 2nd and 3rd rows until neckband measures 2.5 cm, ending with a 3rd row. Cast off loosely.

Cast off rem 7 (7-8-10) sts. Slip next 24 (24-24-26) sts onto a stitch holder and leave. With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and knit to end. Complete to correspond with other side.

FINISHING

FRONT

DO NOT PRESS. Join left shoulder and neckband seam. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Darn in all ends.

Work as for Back to **. Divide For V Neck – Next row (RS) – K44 (47-50-54), turn. Cont on these 44 (47-50-54) sts and dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row until 30 (34-38-41) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 28 (31-34-37) sts rem. Cont without shaping until work measures 20 (21-22-23) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row. Shape Shoulder – Cast off 7 (8-9-9) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row.
