NEEDLESAND EXTRAS
1 pair 5.50mm Knitting Needles, or size that gives correct tension.Ayarn needle.
TENSION
15 sts and 26 rows to 10 cm over garter st, using 5.50mm needles and 2 strands of yarn tog.
BEANIE
Using 5.50mm needles and 2 strands of C2 tog, cast on 61 (67-71) sts.
Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 5 (5-6) cm from beg, working last row on WS. Using 2 strands of C3 tog, cont in garter st until work measures 10 (10-12) cm from beg, working last row on WS.
Using 2 strands of C1 tog for rem, cont until beanie measures 11 (11-14) cm from beg, working last row on WS.
Shape Crown – 1st row – K1, * K2tog, K4 (4-5), rep from * to end = 51 (56-61) sts.
2nd and foll alt rows – Knit.
3rd row – K1, * K2tog, K3 (3-4), rep from * to end = 41 (45-51) sts.
5th row – K1, * K2tog, K2 (2-3), rep from * to end = 31 (34-41) sts.
7th row – K1, * K2tog, K1 (2-2), rep from * to end = 21 (23-31) sts.
9th row – K1, * K2tog, K0 (0-1), rep form * to end = 11 (12-21) sts.
10th row – Knit.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
FINISHING
DO NOTPRESS. Using mattress st seam, join side edges tog to form centre back seam. Using C1, C2 and C3 make a pom pom and attach to top of beanie as pictured.
SCARF
Using 5.50mm needles and 2 strands of C1 tog, cast on 2 sts.
1st and foll alt rows (WS) – Knit.
2nd row – Inc knitways once in each st = 4 sts.
4th row – K1, inc knitways in each of next 2 sts, K1 = 6 sts.
6th row – K1, inc knitways in next st, K2, inc knitways in next st, K1 = 8 sts.
10th row – K1, inc knitways in next st, K4, inc knitways in next st, K1 = 10 sts.
Cont inc in this manner in every foll alt row until there are 16 sts.
Cont in garter st without shaping until work measures 39 cm from beg, working last row on WS. Break off C1 Using 2 strands of C3 tog, cont in garter st until work measures 72 cm from beg, working last row on WS. Next row – K1, K2tog, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1 = 14 sts.
Cont dec one st (as before) at each of every foll alt row until 2 sts rem. Knit 1 row. Cast off.
FINISHING
DO NOTPRESS. Using C2, make two large pom poms and attach to each end of scarf as pictured.
