NEEDLESAND EXTRAS

1 pair each 450mm and 4mm Knitting Needles, or sizes that give correct tension. Ayarn needle; 5 buttons

TENSION

18 sts and 29 rows to 10 cm over patt, using 450mm needles

BACK

Using 450mm needles and C, cast on 58 (64-68) sts

Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS)

Beg stripe patt – Using M, work 4 rows stocking st, beg with a knit row

Using C, knit 2 rows garter st

Last 6 rows form stripe patt

Cont in patt until work measures 26 (29-32) cm from beg, working last row on WS

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping

Cont in patt until work measures 14 (15-16) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS

Shape Shoulders – Keeping patt correct, cast off 6 (7-7) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 7 (7-8) sts at beg of foll 2 rows Cast off rem 20 (22-24) sts loosely

LEFT FRONT

Using 450mm needles and C, cast on 28 (31-33) sts

Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS)

Beg stripe patt – Work in stripe patt as for Back until work measures same as Back to beg of coloured threads, ending with same patt row on WS. **

Tie a coloured thread at end of last row to mark beg of armhole

Cont in patt until work measures 9 (9.5-10) cm from coloured thread, working last row on WS

Shape Neck – Keeping patt correct, cast off 5 sts at beg of next row = 23 (26-28) sts

Dec one st at neck edge in every row until 19 (21-22) sts rem

Cont in patt without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row on WS

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 6 (7-7) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 7 (7-8) sts

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front to **

SLEEVES

Using 4mm needles and C, cast on 32 (32-34) sts

Change to 450mm needles

Beg stripe patt – Work 6 rows stripe patt as for Back

Cont in patt, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 6th row until there are 48 (52-56) sts

Cont in patt without shaping until work measures approx 23 (28-33) cm from beg, ending with 4 rows of M. Cast off loosely

LEFT FRONT BAND

With RS facing, using 4mm needles and M, knit up 70 (74-82) sts evenly along left front edge

1st row (WS) – Knit

2nd row – K4, yfwd, K2tog, * K13 (14-16), yfwd, K2tog, rep from * to last 4 sts, K4 = 5 buttonholes in total

Knit 3 rows garter st. Cast off loosely knitways

RIGHT FRONT BAND

With RS facing, using 4mm needles and M, knit up 70 (74-82) sts evenly along right front edge

Knit 5 rows garter st. Cast off loosely knitways

HOOD (beg at face edge)

Using 450mm needles and C, cast on 97 (101-105) sts

Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS)

Beg stripe patt – Work in stripe patt as for Back until work measures approx 19 (21-23) cm from beg, ending with 2 rows of C

Shape back of hood – Keeping patt correct, Using M, Next row (RS) – K47 (49-51), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K47 (49-51) = 95 (99-103) sts

Next row – Purl

Next row – K46 (48-50), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K46 (48-50) = 93 (97-101) sts

Next row – Purl

Using C, Next row – K45 (47-49), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K45 (47-49) = 91 (95-99) sts

Next row – Knit

Using M, Next row – K44 (46-48), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K44 (46-48) = 89 (93-97) sts

Next row – Purl

Next row – K43 (45-47), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K43 (45-47) = 87 (91-95) sts

Next row – Purl. Cast off loosely

FINISHING

DO NOTPRESS. Using mattress st seam, join shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams

Join side and sleeve seams, matching patt. Fold hood in half so that side edges meet and join back seam. Sew hood in position to neck edge, beg and ending in centre of front bands. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Using M, make a chunky tassel approx 10 cm long and using C for tie at top of tassel attach to tip of hood as pictured
