FRENCH BRAID TABLE RUNNER Once you’ve joined all the strips, line up the ruler on the right side and cut off all of the points to form a straight edge. Flip the block and repeat on the other side. Square up the top and bottom of the block to form a rectangle. In our layout rectangle is 8 3/4” x 28 ½”. Sew border 2½” strips from Winterberry Holly fabric.
BATTING Cut Frost Berry fabric and Bosal Light Fusible Batting for backing 16 x 32”. It needs to be larger then tablerunner top for a wider binding. Press them together to fuse the batting. Lay the top and machine or hand quilt starting at the center and working towards the corners. Trim the quilted tablerunner leaving 1” of extra batting/backing around the entire perimeter. BINDING Sew 3” binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press seams open. Use a walking foot. Sew binding along one side approx. 6” away from the corner. © BIRCH CREATIVE, 2022. Keep sewing until you reach a corner, and stop stitching ¼” before the edge of tablerunner top. Fold the strip in a motion of 45˚ and upward, pressing with your fingers. Hold this fold with you finger, and bring the strip down in line with the next edge, making a horizontal fold that aligns with the top edge of the wadding. Start sewing again with a ¼” seam allowance from the edge of the wadding. Do the same in the four corners. Stop stitching before you reach the last 3”. Lay the loose ends of the binding flat along the edge, folding the ends back on themselves where they meet. Press them together to form a crease. Using this crease as the stitching line, sew binding pieces together. Trim excess fabric and complete stitching. Press the binding , fold under and handstitch it in place.
