The fabric requirements is for making placemat as shown in the photograph. Before cutting review the placement of colours in case you want to make you own choices.
NOTE: All seam allowances are ¼”. Sew pieces right sides together.
Take four 8” squares and sew them together into a four patch block.
Mark 3½” on the block edges. Join them up and drawn diagonal lines across the block. Cut along all the drawn diagonal lines. Rearrange the pieces. Swap the top and left triangles pieces with each other, swap the right and bottom triangles with each other, and rotate the center square 90° clockwise.

Then sew the three rows together and press well. Place backing fabric on a flat surface wrong side up. Place batting and pieced block on top with right side facing up. Machine or hand quilt all layers together. Trim off the excess fabric to create a square block. Stitch binding around the edges.
