MIDNIGHT GARDEN ZIPPER BAG FINISHED SIZE: approx. 25 x 20 cm
MATERIALS: • LIBERTY Fabrics - Flower Show Midnight Garden Collection FIELD ROSE 5965B 1 strip - 6 ½” x WOF WILDFLOWER FIELD 5954B 1 strip - 6 ½” x WOF FORGET ME NOT BLOSSOM 5727F 12 ½” square for lining SUFFOLK FIELDS 5730E 12 ½” square for lining 1 strip - 2 ½” x WOF for internal seams binding • Bosal Light Fusible Batting- B27140 • Zipper 25cm The fabric requirements is for making bag as shown in the photograph. Before cutting review the placement of colours in case you want to make you own choices. ZIPPER TABS Cut off the ends of the zipper. Cut two tabs for zipper ends approx. 1½” x 3½”. Fold them in half, matching short edge to short edge, and press. Fold over about ½” on each end, and press, making sure that the two folded edges match. Pin these tabs onto the each end of the zipper, with the zipper sandwiched in between. Make sure about ½” of the zipper is inside the tab. Top stitch across edge of zipper tabs.

BAG PANELS Measure the length of the zipper with tabs and cut 6 ½” strips to the same length. You will need two bottom panels from FIELD ROSE fabric and two top panels from WILDFLOWER FIELD fabric. Sew bottom panel from FIELD ROSE to the top panel. Press seam allowances open. Repeat for the second set. NOTE: Stitch with ¼” seam allowance unless stated otherwise. top panel 6 ½”

Cut batting approx. ½” smaller than front panels
Cut one backing piece from SUFFOLK FIELDS to the size of the outside panels and one piece of backing from FORGET ME NOT BLOSSOM. Cut two pieces of Bosal batting approximately ½” smaller than front panels to reduce the bulk in the seams. SEWING IN ZIPPER Place one lining piece with right side facing up. Lay the zipper with tabs along top edge. Center the zipper between the two sides. Lay one front panel right side down on top of zipper and lining. Make sure to line up the top edges and the sides. Using your zipper foot, sew along the zipper. When you get within about 1” of the zipper pull, stop and put your needle down, lift the foot, and slide

MIDNIGHT GARDEN ZIPPER BAG the zipper pull into the section you have already sewn. Lower your foot, and finish this seam. Press lining and front panel pieces away from the zipper. Lay second piece of lining face up. With zipper closed, lay the piece you just finished on top of the lining aligning lining and the zipper and sides. Place second front panel right side down on top of zipper and lining. Sew this side of the zipper in place as before. Open up lining and front panels on each side and insert batting pieces. Iron Bosal fusible batting in place.
ASSEMBLY Open the zipper. Fold bag over with front panels facing. Align sides and pin. Take SUFFOLK FIELDS strip for internal binding and place it along the edge overlapping the beginning and the end by 1”. Trim excess and sew along the edge. Flip the binding to the other side and iron. Stitch or hand stitch it in place. Repeat it for all sides.
Insert batting pieces between front panel and lining pieces.
Using walking foot on your sewing machine to quilt each side of the bag starting from the zipper. Quilting with ½” parallel lines are ideal for this project. Trim the side edges and bottom of each side to be even. BAG HANDLE Cut a 1½”x 6½” strip from FIELD ROSE fabric. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Fold outside edges into center fold, and press again. Fold over, and press into one long strip. Top stitch close to edge on both long edges. Mark 2½” squares on each bottom corner. Cut excess fabric. Fold bottom corners with side seams matching and seam allowances facing the opposite directions. Stitch across with binding strip as you did before.
