Step 1 - APPLIQUÉ CIRCLES

Cut from cardboard 5 ¾”, 4 ¾”, 3¾”, 3”, 2⅝” and 2”circles using templates on page 5 and 6. Trace circles onto variety of fabrics. Refer to table on page 2 for colours and sizes of circles required. Cut circles out with ½” seam allowance. Cut some foil pieces larger than circles. Put the shiny side of the foil face-down, put the fabric on the top face-down, and then put the cardboard onto the center of the fabric. Pull the foil up around the circle, nice and tightly. Then turn it over to the front, and run your finger around to make sure you don’t have any little creases or points. Once you have your circle nice and smooth, give it a nice long press with the iron. Give it a minute to cool down and then unwrap it.

Step 2 - QUILT CENTER

Find the center on white Fabrics and mark 27 ½” x 40” rectangle. Position circles into the center within marked rectangle. Firstly place circles at the edges and spread them evenly inside as you desire or refer to photo for placement. Pin them or use Quilt Basting Spray to secure them in place. Slip stitch circles in place with matching cotton. Keep stitches very small in length. 27 ½” 2” 2⅝”

CARNABY CIRCLES QUILT Step 3 - QUILT ASSEMBLY

Cut the backing fabric to the size of the quilt top. Spray baste the batting to the quilt backing and smooth down with your fingers. Place quilt top on the top. Pin layers together. Quilt all layers together as desired. We used DMC Cotton Perle to stitch parallel lines 3” apart and some circles inside larger circles.

Using original 27½” x 40” marking for 27 ½” the center as a guide mark 7¼” lines around for the placement of the 40” binding. Trim excess batting leaving 1¾”around the marked lines. Start 7¼” sewing the binding strip marking line for in the middle of one of binding placement 1¾” the sides, placing the Trim excess batting and strip on the marked fabric 1¾” from the lines. Leave a 4” - 5” tail marking line and begin sewing the stop stitching ¼” from binding to the quilt top the marked line 1¾” using a ¼” seam. batting

Stop stitching ¼” from the marked line. Clip the threads. Fold the strip in a motion of 45˚ and upward, pressing with your fingers. Hold this fold with you finger, and bring the strip down in line with the next edge, making a horizontal fold that aligns with the top edge of the batting. Start sewing again with a ¼” seam allowance.

Step 4 - BINDING

Join 5” binding strips together end to end using 45˚ seams. Press seams open.
