NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

A pair each 3.25mm and 4mm Knitting Needles or sizes that give correct tension. A cable needle. A yarn needle.

3 (4-4-4-4) buttons.

TENSION

21 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm over double moss st (see Back), using 4mm needles.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS

C4B = slip next 2 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work, K2, then K2 from cable needle.

C4F = slip next 2 sts onto a cable needle and leave at front of work, K2, then K2 from cable needle.

BACK

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 49 (55-59-65-71) sts.

Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 3 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 4mm needles.

Beg double moss st – 1st row (RS) – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

2nd row – P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

3rd row – P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

4th row – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rows 1 to 4 incl form double moss st.

Cont in moss st until work measures 15 (18-20-24-25) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape Armholes – 1st row (RS) – K5, sl 1, K1, psso, moss to last 7 sts, K2tog, K5.

2nd row – K5, P1, moss to last 6 sts, P1, K5. Rep last rows until 41 (47-51-55-59) sts rem, ending with a 2nd row.

Next row – K6, moss to last 6 sts, K6.

Next row – K5, P1, moss to last 6 sts, P1, K5. Rep last 2 rows until armholes measure 11 (12-13-14-15) cm, working last row on WS.

Shape Shoulders – Cast off 5 (7-7-8-9) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 5 (6-7-8-8) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Cast off rem 21 (21-23-23-25) sts loosely.

LEFT FRONT

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 23 (25-27-31-33) sts.

Beg rib – Work 3 cm in rib as for lower band of Back, ending with a 2nd row and inc 10 sts evenly across last row = 33 (35-37-41-43) sts.

Change to 4mm needles. **

Beg patt – 1st row (RS) – K1 (1-1-0-1), (P1, K1) 2 (2-2-3-3) times, P1, K16, P1, K1 tbl, P1, K4, P1, K1 tbl, (P1, K1) 1 (2-3-4-5) time/s, P0 (0-0-1-0).

2nd and foll alt rows – Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.

3rd row - P1 (1-1-0-1), (K1, P1) 2 (2-2-3-3) times, P1, (C4B, C4F) twice, P1, K1 tbl, P1, C4B, P1, K1 tbl, (K1, P1) 1 (2-3-4-5) time/s, K0 (0-0-1-0).

5th row – As 1st row.

7th row - P1 (1-1-0-1), (K1, P1) 2 (2-2-3-3) times, P1, (C4F, C4B) twice, P1, K1 tbl, P1, C4B, P1, K1 tbl, (K1, P1) 1 (2-3-4-5) time/s, K0 (0-0-1-0).

8th row – As 2nd row.

Rows 1 to 8 incl form patt.

Shape Armhole and Front Slope – 1st row (RS) – K5, sl 1, K1, psso, patt to last 2 sts, K2tog, K1. 2nd row – P2, patt to last 6 sts, P1, K5. Rep last 2 rows until 25 (27-29-31-31) sts rem, ending with a 2nd row, this completes armhole shaping

Next row – K6, patt to last 2 sts, K2tog, K1. Next row – P2, patt to last 6 sts, P1, K5. Rep last 2 rows until 17 (21-23-25-26) sts rem, then dec one st (as before) at neck edge in every foll 4th row until 16 (19-20-22-22) sts rem.

Cont in patt until armhole measure 11 (12-13-14-15) cm, working last row on WS.

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 8 (10-10-11-11) sts at beg of next row. Work 1 row. Cast off rem 8 (9-10-11-11) sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front to **.

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 8 (10-10-11-11) sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 8 (9-10-11-11) sts.

FRONT BAND

Using mattress st seam, join shoulder seams. Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 6 sts. 1st row (WS) – Knit. Cont in garter st until work measures 2 cm from beg, working last row on WS.

** Next row (RS) – K2, K2tog, yfwd, K2 = buttonhole. Knit in garter st for 4.5 (4-5-6-6.5) cm, working last row on WS. ** Rep from ** to ** 1 (2-2-2-2) time/s, then buttonhole row once = 3 (4-4-4-4) buttonholes in total. Note – We suggest sewing front band neatly in position as you go, placing buttonholes on preferred side of front. Cont in garter st until band fits (slightly stretched) evenly along rem front edge to shoulder, across back neck, then along other front edge, working last row on WS. Cast off.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side seams. Sew on buttons. Darn in ends.
