MEASUREMENTS

Years 2 (4-6-8)

To fit underarm 55 (60-65-70) cm

To measure (approx) 62 (68-74-78) cm

Length 40 (44-48-52) cm

Chenille Yarn 100g

2 (2-2-3) x balls

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

1 pair 5mm knitting needles, or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle;

TENSION

13 sts and 26 rows to 10cm over purl fabric (1 row P – RS, 1 row K – WS), using 5mm needles.

BACK

Using 5mm needles, cast on 43 (47-49-53) sts loosely.

Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS).

Work in purl fabric (1 row P - RS, 1 row K - WS) until work measures 26 (29-32-34) cm from beg, ending with a knit row.

Shape Armholes – 1st row - Cast off 2 (3-3-3) sts, purl to end.

2nd row – Cast off 2 (3-3-3) sts, knit to last 4 sts, K4 (armband) = 39 (41-43-47) sts. **

3rd row – K4 (armband), P2tog, purl to last 6 sts, P2tog, K4 (armband).

4th row – K4 (armband), knit to last 4 sts, K4 (armband).

5th row – As 3rd row = 35 (37-39-43) sts.

Keeping 4 sts at each end in garter st correct, cont without shaping until armholes measure 14 (15-16-18) cm, working last row on WS.

Shape Shoulders – Cast off 5 (5-6-6) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 5 (5-5-6) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.

Cast off rem 15 (17-17-19) sts loosely.

FRONT

Work as for Back to **.

Divide For Front Opening – Next row – K4, P2tog, P10 (11-12-14), K3 (front band), turn.

Cont on these 18 (19-20-22) sts.

Next row – K3 (front band), knit to last 4 sts, K4 (armband). Next row – K4, P2tog, purl to last 3 sts, K3 = 17 (18-19-21) sts.

Keeping garter st edgings correct at each end, cont without shaping until armhole measures 9 (9-10-12) cm, working last row on WS.

Work 1 row.

Shape Neck – Next row (WS) – Cast off 3 (3-3-4) sts, knit to last 4 sts, K4.

Dec one st at neck edge in every row until 10 (10-11-12) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, working last row on WS.

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 5 (5-6-6) sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 5 (5-5-6) sts.

With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts, K2tog, K2, purl to last 6 sts, P2tog, K4.

Next row – K4 (armband), knit to last 3 sts, K3 (front band).

Next row – K3, purl to last 6 sts, P2tog, K4 = 17 (18-19-21) sts.

Keeping garter st edgings correct at each end, cont without shaping until armhole measures 9 (9-10-12) cm, working last row on WS.

Shape Neck – Next row (RS) – Cast off 3 (3-3-4) sts, purl to last 4 sts, K4.

Dec one st at neck edge in every row until 10 (10-11-12) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, working last row on WS.

Work 1 row.

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 5 (5-6-6) sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 5 (5-5-6) sts.

HOOD (beg at face end)

Using 5mm needles, cast on 70 (72-74-76) sts loosely.

Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS).

Work in purl fabric until work measures 18 (19-20-21) cm from beg, ending with a knit row.

Shape Back – 1st row - P33 (34-35-36), (P2tog) twice, P33 (34-35-36).

2nd row – Knit.

3rd row – P32 (33-34-35), (P2tog) twice, P32 (33-34-35). 4th row – Knit.

5th row – P31 (32-33-34), (P2tog) twice, P31 (32-33-34).

6th row – Knit.

7th row – P30 (31-32-33), (P2tog) twice, P30 (31-32-33).

8th row – Knit.

9th row – P29 (30-31-32), (P2tog) twice, P29 (30-31-32) = 60 (62-64-66) sts. 10th row – Knit. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Darn in all ends. Using mattress st seam, join shoulder and side seams. Fold cast off edge of hood in half and join back seam. Sew hood to neck edge, beg and ending at front edges.
