President’s Report Hi all, Well the silly season is nearly upon us and i hope you're all gearing up for a Christmas with no stress or dramas. If you're lucky enough to be heading away for a few days of well earned rest and relaxation then please drive carefully and watch out for the idiots on the road.

Well done to all those babies who made it into the National Awards and the Birman top 10s as well. If you didn't quite get there, and even if you did, just know that awards are not what being owned by a birman is all about. It's about the love, companionship, fun and joy that our furry friends give us and we all know that our own special babies are BEST IN SHOW at that.

Good luck to all you breeders out there. I hope all the birthings go according to plan and we see some lovely Birman babies on the bench next season.

See you all next year and a huge MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR from my family to yours

Baxter loves being fussed over at the shows, at home he has 3 other Bir-babys to play with – toilet paper has no chance!

We have received further Judges’ reports for our 2015 show held in July. Cathy Webb Thank you to the Sacred Temple Cat Club for inviting me to judge and congratulations to the hardworking and dedicated Committee and Helpers who put on a fabulous show. I was impressed with the overall high quality of Birmans exhibited and also with the presentation of the cats. There wasn’t one Birman that could not have taken home the best presented award. ENTIRE CATS My Best In Show Entire cat was the gorgeous sealpoint male, Ch Belzicatz Rebel’s Ladd, bred and owned by D. Holtom. This boy had fabulous point colour, great gloves and gauntlets as well as that ‘typical’ birman look complimented by good eye colour. He was presented in top show condition and was a pleasure to judge. My Reserve Best in Show was GLDDBLGrCh Leegrgo Blueboy. This well performed blue male had lovely sound point colour and eye colour. He had super boning with a good balance to his body. Gloves and Gauntlets were good as was his head shape. He was bred by J & J Davey and owned by B. Muller. He was also my BAM winner. Third Best in Show and my best entire female was Ch Belzicatz Kiya Anne, bred and owned by D Holtom. This lilac girl had a lovely soft and sound colour to her points with good body colour, super blue eyes and a correct roman nose. Fourth Best in Show was Ch Amoenta Izza Lucky, bred and owned by K.Y & R Murphy. This seal female was well presented with lovely eye colour, great ear placement and correct body shape. Fifth Best in Show was the Blue Tortie Tabbypoint, Gr Ch Sceiron Tori, an 8 .5 year old female, bred and owned by M Robinson and P Spink. Great eye colour and roman nose, this girl had lovely body colour for her age and a nice mingle of colours on her points. ENTIRE KITTENS My Best in Show Entire Kitten was the lovely lilac point female, YeuxDeSaphir Roxy’s Quick Silver, bred and owned by A Jones. I loved the soft lilac point colour on this kitten complimented by the super eye colour, coat colour and presentation. Gloves and Gauntlets were good along with the good balance to the body and tail. Nice roman nose and ear placement. Reserve Best in Show was the cream point female kitten, Chatoyant Calico who impressed, not only with her ‘look at me’ attitude but also her point and coat colour, eye colour and excellent roman nose. She had a great feel to her well balanced body. She is owned by R Meyers and bred by M Robinson & P Spink. This kitten also won my entire kitten BAM. Third Best in Show was Moonson Matilda Jane, a blue point bred and owned by S. Dennehy. This kitten had sound points colour, good length to body with great boning for a kitten. Coat had a lovely silken feel with pleasing eye colour and ear placement.

Fourth Best In Show was Moonson Julia Mi Luv, a seal point female, bred and owned by S. Dennehy. A well presented kitten with good definition between coat and points colour. Gloves and gauntlets were OK and eye colour coming in well. Fifth Best in Show was Chatoyant Flame Dancer Simple Red, owned by M Robinson & P Spink and bred by R Meyers. This lovely girl had a great length of body, very pleasing coat and points colour, strong jaw and chin and eyes and ears well placed. Anne Harvey I had the pleasure of judging some outstanding Birmans at this show along with fellow Australian ACF Judge Belinda Penglis and local judges Zena Pigden, Sam Pratt, and Cathy Webb. Petone put on some beautiful weather for me as you can see! The show dinner on the Saturday evening was a lovely start to the weekend and on Sunday morning we were picked up and driven to the show to begin judging.

Entire Cats 1. In the entire class there were some really outstanding cats – beautiful boning, gorgeous coats and stunning eyes! My best entire cat was No 13, a bluepoint male appropriately named GDGC Leegrgo Blue Boy. This boy was beautifully balanced, his presentation was immaculate, beautiful boning and muscle tone and that was before looking at his colour and pattern! Needless to say he was beautifully marked and the whole package set off by lovely eyes. This boy was also my Supreme Exhibit in Show. 2. My reserve in this class was No 3, a sealpoint male Ch Belicatz Rebel’s Ladd, whose gloves and gauntlets were as near to perfect as can be. 3. No 17 was my third and a beautifully balanced lilac point female, Ch Belicatz Kiya Anne with really lovely coat texture and stunning eyes. While there isn’t enough space in this report to list every cat, I want to mention the cat awarded my Best Eye Colour in this class and that was No 1. Ch Concerto Pinball Wizard - Gorgeous eyes!! Lovely shape and stunning deep, deep blue colour!!

Entire Kittens I love judging kittens and I was pleased to have enough time to spend with each kitten at this show. I think it is important to make each time on the show bench enjoyable for the kittens and so often we are too rushed to do this. Again, there were some beautiful kits in the class. 1. My best in this class was a beautiful sealpoint female No. 31 Moonson Julia Mi Love. Lovely coat texture and beautiful body with strong boning, beautifully even gloves and gauntlets and the star quality which makes me keep looking – balance! 2. My reserve was a lovely bluepoint female No. 32 Sinhiman Maple Taffy and again, a beautifully balanced girl. This little one got my Best Temperament in this class too. 3. 3rd place went to No 39 Chatoyant Flame Dancer Simply Red a gorgeous little redpoint female with great boning. My Best Coat award in this class went to No. 37 YeuxDeSaphire Roxy’s Quick Silver. A very appropriate prefix - Eyes of Sapphire she certainly had! Along with a wonderful coat and fabulous grooming. This little girl was also my overall Judges Choice for the show.

Neuter/Spay Cats The alters have got it all going for them at cat shows. No hormones to interfere with eating, sleeping and looking gorgeous, and there were certainly some gorgeous cats in this class. 1. My best in alter was a beautiful sealpoint neuter No. 51 GDGC Moonson Paddington Bear. He had a great temperament, lovely coat texture and beautifully groomed to show it all off. His eye colour was superb and gloves and gauntlets near perfect. Also awarded Best Eye Colour in class. 2. My reserve was a beautiful bluepoint spey No. 55 Br Pr Florencia Miss Saphire Again, this girl had great coat texture and gorgeous eyes to go with her fabulous temperament. Also awarded Best Temperament in class.

3. No. 63 GDG Pr Birpur Iza Stunning Chockie was my 3rd best in this class. This boy is appropriately named as his colour is stunning! Lovely coat texture to go along with it and overall a beautifully balanced boy.

Neuter/Spay Kittens My final class of the day, kittens again and lots of time for play ☺ 1. My Best in Show in this class was No. 76 Moonson Scotty a lovely bluepoint boy with great Gloves and Gauntlets and a wonderful strong well-muscled body. Also awarded best Gloves and Gauntlets in this class. 2. My reserve was No. 73 Moonson Mylo another lovely balanced bluepoint neuter with a beautiful profile and great coat texture and grooming. 3. My third placing went to No. 78 Moonson Zachary, a seal tabbypoint neuter with lovely eye colour and coat texture. Also awarded Best Eye Colour in this class. Hmmm, there looks to be a theme here, but on looking at the catalogue after the show, I see that the odds were stacked in favour of Moonson babies in this class! Overall the quality of the cats entered in the show was outstanding and I am delighted to have been invited to meet and handle your beautiful cats. The wonderful hospitality shown to me by the club members, and especially Diane Holtom, and Janice and Johnny Davey made it a memorable weekend for me. The quality and quantity of prizes was fabulous and took up almost as much space in the hall as did the cats. While the prizes were being distributed, I also had the pleasure of choosing the Supreme Companion of the show which I awarded to GDG Pr Molly Too – a stunning longhair tortie lady. Thank you to all of the executive committee, the show committee and the exhibitors for making this a show to remember. I also would like to thank my steward and scribe for the day, Michael and Diane – thank you, you made it easy for me!!

Belinda Penglis My first judging appointment for The Sacred Temple Cat Club of New Zealand Inc., the 18 th Annual Championship Show was a great opportunity to see this beautiful breed of cat at its best. I was in fine company, and surrounded by a wonderful, friendly group of Birman enthusiasts. I have provided my list of Top Ten Exhibits from the day. Best in Show 13 Blue Point. This boy presented with a nice length of body, was very sturdy on his feet. A very mature boy, he not only had breath, a lovely top of head and eye colour and a good coat texture, he also was balanced from tip to tip. With his even temperament, he was confident and comfortable out on the table. 51 Seal Point Neuter. This lovely chap heading into his prime, had lovely balance. His coat colour and points showed clean definition, and his eye colour and temperament were good. 2 My Best Seal Point adult from a strong section, this boy had a great gloves and gauntlets, lovely eye shape and colour, and a “stand out” strong body, topped off by delicious temperament. 17 A young Lilac Point female was a “nice package” with a beautiful coat. A very pretty girl; still young with more broadening of head to come. 32 Blue Point. My Best Kitten, this was a stylish 6 month old female kitten with quality gloves and gauntlets. She was presented with a nice textured, well- groomed coat. Her eye colour was amongst the best in the

field on the day and she had a lovely temperament. Still young but showing the promise of a nice Birman head. 55 Blue Point Spey This deeper blue lady had great eye colour ! She had nice balance and a sweet temperament. 5 This young Seal Point lass –only just an adult and “in season”, had nice gloves and gauntlets and was well groomed. She exhibited good balance for her age. 1 Seal Point- another young male with glorious eye colour, great colour contrast and a temperament to die for. This boy, though not substantial had good boning and was balanced. Grooming not spot on for this show. 61 Blue Tabby Point Neuter He did not possess intense eye colour but had good boning and nice temperament. 31 Seal Point. My Reserve Kitten, this 4 month old girl had a gorgeous temperament, good grooming and pleasing gloves and gauntlets. I also had the pleasure to handle some lovely companions and domestics on the day. So I came away from the day with a great many good memories. Thank You very much for the opportunity to judge all these lovely felines and make some new friends. Meow till next time!!

Say Hi to Molly (GldDblGrPr Molly Too). Molly has been a regular at the Sacred Temple Cat Club shows in the Companion section since 2009, and she has done very well. Molly has won Supreme three years on the trot (2011, 2012, 2013) as well as Runner-up Supreme twice (2009, 2010). She has also received NZCF awards: 2009 -2nd;2010 1st; 2012 8th; 2013 6th; 2014 1st; 2015 3rd. What a great show career she has had, and loves being showed and she is a great crowd entertainer.

This is a heart-warming story about a stray mother cat and her kittens who were found in the Otahuhu Substation switchyard by staff recently. The staff have taken them in and are nursing them back to health. Two of the kittens have found homes with staff and the Mother and 2 reamining kittens are still being looked after by staff until homes are found. Sparky is a friendly female cat who turned up on Monday 16th November 2015. She was incredibly thin and we very quickly realised she had 4 wild kittens approximately 5 weeks old living in the cable trench that runs beside the office. On Sunday 22nd November, 3 of the kittens were caught and relocated with Sparky to a more suitable residence where they would receive interaction with people to prevent them becoming feral. The fourth kitten, also the most timid and always the first to dive into the cable trench when somebody looked in their direction, could not be caught and so a CAT trap was set. She was caught in the trap the following day and reunited with her family. The kittens have now grown and are ready for their forever homes, hopefully to staff.

Sparky

Very friendly and very relaxed however is terrified of men (sorry guys – must be a bad experience in her past). Not very old herself this could be her second litter of kittens (and her last – she’s now been fixed). In very skinny condition but chubbing up very well. Also very diligent in doing the washing up when the kittens have finished eating.

Little Grey

The softest fur out of all the kittens and the only boy in the litter. He’s really friendly and playing is starting to involve hilarious acrobatics. His pounce seems to be higher than it is long so the most interesting kitten to watch playing.

(Mum)

(Male)

Mini-Mum / Dapple

Carbon copy of her mother but with a ginger tabby undercurrent in her fur. The friendliest of all the kittens and trust and confidence is earned quickly. Very soft fur. A very loyal and playful little cat.

Marma Lady (Female)

An unusual girl (only 20% of gingers are girls apparently). The smallest in the group but despite being dainty she gives as good as she gets. The others seem to lick her the most and they often give her ears a good cleaning while she’s asleep. She doesn’t sleep alone often and is more likely to curl up with a sibling (she’s the most likely to end up at the bottom of the kitten pile).

Timid Torti/ Tabbyshell Tabasha

Takes a while to earn her trust and is the most timid. While in the cable trench she was reported as being grey, a tabby and a tortoiseshell. Now we have a better look it’s easy to see why. She has a tabby front and sides with the shadow of calico patches which turns her tabby stripes to ginger stripes, With a tortoiseshell stripe down her back. Her colouring is quite soft in places too giving the illusion sometimes that she’s grey. However, it’s all come together into one really BEAUTIFUL cat.
