Temple Tabloid Winter Edition 2015 Official Publication of the Sacred Temple Cat Club of NZ www.sacredtemplecat.co.nz
President’s Report Hi all, I hope you're all keeping out of the cold and managing to keep warm and dry. Just keep thinking summer will soon be here. Another show has been and gone and what a great one it was. A special and big thankyou to anyone who played a part in it's success no matter how small. We couldn't do it without you. Everything ran smoothly and finnished on time. Results and judges reports have been included further in the newsletter. Congratulations to all who managed to get Supreme, BAM and top 10 placings. The cats were of such a high calibre that your placings were well deserved. The show dinner at the Petone Club was lovely and it was great to see so many come along. Unfortunately we had a couple of people in our midst who weren't barraking for the Hurricanes in the rugby and although we didn't win we put up a great fight and those few southeners’ amongst us were lucky they didn't get leftovers thrown at them (just joking). Our get well soon wishes go out to one of our committee members Sally Dennehy who has just had a stint in hospital. Sally i'm sure i speak for us all when i say we wish you a speedy recovery and that you're back on your feet again soon. Sally was not feeling well at the time of our show but despite this she made a tremendous effort to encourage her pet owners to enter and if they couldn't manage to get there themselves she brought their cats along for them. It's not easy setting up curtains and settling in about 20 cat/kittens. A great effort and once again thanks. I would also like to wish a speedy recovery to Lyn England who has also been in hospital. She is now convalescing at home in the capable hands of her husband Tony. Hope you're back on your feet soon Lyn. That’s it from me for now as my bed is calling. See you all again soon

It’s hard yakka setting up a show, and sometimes you just got to take a break – coffee break that is. Well we’re going on a coffee run, who wants one – orders are duly taken. Off we head to Maccas, place the order, and stuff a couple of burgers down while we wait. Loaded with the coffees, some burgers (for the hungry back at the show venue), and carrot cake for those with the sweet tooth, we head back. I don’t like coffee – I LOVE it!!!
It was a slow journey back, especially navigating out of the Maccas carpark – 2 sets of judder bars – hold on tight to that coffee Diane! Phew we made – no spillage, greeted by Lancey Wancey and Johnny – who just stop, stare and crack up – hold on we need a photo of this! How was your coffee boys! Roundabout Here we go round and round and round and round the roundabout! After the Geyserland show in Tauranga Linda and I had the (so called) pleasure of having our secretary Janice and treasurer Diane stay in the motel room beside us. The other 2 decided they were going out for coffees and dragged Linda and I along with them. It was a freezing cold night but we went anyway (I don't even drink coffee). We got to the first roundabout and Janice mentioned that her bottom hadn't warmed up yet so Diane does a full circle round the roundabout. Nope not yet says Janice so Diane goes round and round again several times. Linda and I are looking at each other, shivering and thinking these 2 have lost the plot (again). Then we found out Diane’s car had heated seats and they hadn't had time to warm up yet. Cool we said how do we turn ours on. Oh you can't they're only in the front they said laughing. The coffee place we came to was closed so we continued further up the road only to come to another roundabout. Linda and I just looked at each other without saying a word and sure enough, round and round and round we went. By this time we were starting to feel sea sick but did they care ...no... all they were worried about was their bums. Along the road a little bit was a cop parked on the side of the road and we tried to get his attention to tell him about these crazy cat ladies in charge of a car but he wasn't interested in us.
He was too busy drinking HIS coffee. We continued several meters up the road with Linda and I getting colder and colder in the back while the front seat people were commenting on how their bums were really feeling the heat now. We passed through a few more roundabouts and at each one the same thing happened. Finally we reached a coffee shop and Janice and Diane were so warm and comfortable in their seats that they wanted us to go in and get their coffees. Oh i don't think so we said and hauled them out. The ride home was a lot quieter as they didn't want to spill their drinks and I can only warn you, that if you're ever with those 2 and they suggest going for coffee and it's cold, run....run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. Judges Reports Samantha Pratt:
Firstly I would like to thank the Sacred Temple Cat Club for hosting me and thank you to the exhibitors for entering your beautiful cats at the show. The line up in the Entire Cats was particularly spectacular and all impeccably behaved. It was a real pleasure to judge these exhibits.
My Best in Show was Amoenta Bouzer a beautiful Seal point male. I fell in love with this boy. I loved his head type- the beautiful width to his head and his beautifully full cheeks and firm chin. He had good markings and very nice seal point colouring. Absolutely loved his coat texture and he was groomed to perfection.. I also awarded him my Breeders Award of Merit.
It was very tough to split my top two exhibits. My Reserve Best in Show was Gold Double Grand Champion Leegrgo Blue Boy. This veteran exhibit was an absolute marvel. This boy had brilliant eye colour and eye shape, great head type, fantastic coat texture and personality plus. He had very good gloves and gauntlets. He also had wonderful body condition and boning.
Third Best in Show was Belzicatz Dee Lara. She was a young female, just nine months old who had a well-balanced body and tail. Very nice body colour and point colour. Her coat was perfect and she was very well presented. Great gloves and gauntlets on this girl. Basically I just fell in love!
Fourth Best in Show was Ch Amoenta Izza Lucky. This girl also received my Best Groomed exhibit today. She presented herself so perfectly on the bench. What a little show pony. Her ear set, shape, muzzle and roman nose were all lovely. Her head was very well balanced and a lovely firm chin. To top it all off this girl had beautiful eye colour.
Fifth Best in Show was Ch Belzicatz Kiya Anne. She was an absolute joy to judge. We had some people visiting their first cat show and this wee lass was my model. She showed off very nicely. She had the most beautiful even point colour and beautiful body colour. Lovely coat texture on this girl. Lovely body and balance and very nice width to her muzzle and well balanced head.
Sixth Best in Show was Ch Concerto Pinball Wizard. Second in my line up of four beautiful seal point males. Very nice gloves and gauntlets on this boy and I loved his depth of point colour. Very nice width to his head and great ear set. Beautiful eye colour and beautiful nature.
Seventh Best in Show was Ch Belzicatz Rebel’s Ladd. It was so hard to split the males. This slightly more mature boy had great body condition, very nice boning and lovely balance between tail and body. He had very good gloves and gauntlets
Eighth Best in Show was Ch Belzicatz Coco Bliss. I loved this little lady’s shade of chocolate. Beautiful even point colour and lovely body colour. Very nice eye shape and set on this girl. Beautiful full coat and presentation.

Seventh Best in show was Cricket. This boy had a beautiful temperament and such a lovely appealing face.
Eighth Best in Show was Gold Double Grand Premier Hollie and she was such a beautiful, alert girl but I think by the end of the day and with me being the last judge she had had enough. I loved her tail and she was very nicely presented.
Ninth Best in Show was very similar – Stevie – he was just gorgeous and I loved him very much but we didn’t have him out for too long. I did have him out long enough to note down he had a gorgeous coat
My Best Shorthair Companion exhibit was Bronze Double Grand Premier Snicky. I am of course a sucker for “smooshy” face cats but this boy has it all. Beautiful nature and impeccable presentation. I love his beautiful eyes and look. Gorgeous boy.
Reserve was Fred Fritter an absolutely delightful man. He chatted to us throughout the judging and let us know he was there. He was also the winner of my Best condition cat. I loved his nature and now I know his name – how gorgeous is that name????
Third best was Amy a lovely patchwork puss with a divine, gentle nature to boot. She was the recipient of my best grooming award also. She presented herself so well on the show bench and was a real pleasure to the eye.
Fourth best was Sir Boris. A kitten with an absolute electric nature who just loved to play and play. He really enjoyed his time on the bench and I’m sure he has a bright future ahead of him.
Fifth best but certainly not least was Gold Double Grand Premier Molly Too. This girl at 7 years 10 months is still like a kitten on the show bench. She was the winner of the Best Temperament award in my ring. She really entertained us on the bench with her head stands.
Longhair Entire Kittens
My Best kitten was Sinhamin Maple Taffy. This wee lass was very mature for her lass. I also awarded her my Breeders award of merit and my best groomed award. She was very well balanced for her age and had been presented to perfection. Beautiful body colour and point colour on this girl. Her eye colour was still coming in but I think she will have a very promising future.
Reserve Best kitten was Belzicatz Tiana. One of the exhibits I fell in love with on the day. She was just the funniest little girl and I adored her sweet nature. I loved the width to her muzzle and ear set for her age. Beautiful even chocolate point colouring and lovely feel to her coat.
Third best kitten was Birpur Jean The Mini Bean. This girl was away from the action and she really tried her hardest to “dig” her way over to the crowd. Great length of body and tail on this girl. A real stand out in this respect. Beautiful eye colour. Very nice width to her head and muzzle. Lovely roman nose.
Fourth best kitten was Sandylands Eyes of Saphire Dream. Another beautiful bluepoint girl. The grooming was great on this girl. She has very nice eye colour and gloves and gauntlets.
Fifth best kitten was YeuxDeSaphir Roxy’s Quick Silver. A really alert lilac girl that was always at the front of the cage – making my job really easy. R/UP BIS was Moonson All About Baz. This kitten had a gorgeous well presented coat. Very nice coat colour and point colour. Lovely body and tail. Not quite the depth of the eye colour as my BIS but still very young.
3rd BIS was Florencia Shadowfax. My best blue point in an extremely strong line up of blue points. This kitten was absolutely delightful and also won my best temperament. The coat texture was glorious. The expression on this kitten was very nice.
4th BIS was Adorabella Honey Dew Kisses. The only girl in the line up. A slightly thicker coat texture on this girl but she was well presented. She had really good width in the muzzle and nice ears.
5th BIS was Moonson Scotty. This kitten won my Best gloves and gauntlets award. He had very nice coat texture and points.
6th BIS was Moonson Mylo. Another kitten who was a pleasure to judge. Very nice expression on this kitten and another very nicely presented kitten.
7th BIS was Moonson Beaudine. Very nice body and boning on this kitten. Good strong chest. Very nice point colour and body colour.
8th BIS was Tolaytus Pocket Mouse. Just a wee dot. He was up against some much older kittens on the day but this wee lad was very promising. Very nice well to his coat and good eye colour for his age.
Zena Pigden: I would like to begin by thanking the club for inviting me to judge at this show. Judging a single breed show is always an interesting challenge and there were certainly some outstanding exhibits. There was an excellent number of entries and it was a very well run, friendly and enjoyable show. I should add too that we judges were very well looked after throughout. Entire Kittens My first section was the entire kittens. We had a wonderful range of colours in this section and it was very pleasing to see good examples of the breed in other than the traditional colours. My best in show was Chatoyant Flame Dancer Simply Red, a red point female who had very good head type with good width across the cheekbones, a roman nose, a good chin (great to see those less obvious aspects of type present), lovely eyes with good eye colour giving correct Birman expression, complemented by a body of good length. Next came a blue point girl Sandylands Eyes of Saphire Dream, appropriately named as she was one of contenders for best eye colour, this girl was just a bit shorter in the body than my BIS and needed a little more chin development, but overall still showed good head type and expression. She took out my award for best gloves and gauntlets in this section. My third best in show was a cream point Chatoyant Calico who I see is a full sister to my BIS. Unfortunately she was a bit upset and I was not able to fully assess her or she may have done better. However her head type with good width, roman nose, eye colour, correct ear set and a firm chin. was complemented by an excellent muscular and long body. Continuing the theme of less common colours, my fourth best in show, YeuxDeSaphir Roxy’s Quick Silver was a lilac point female, one of several kittens with great temperament, and was a good all round balanced kitten, with reasonable head width and good eye colour, and it was very nice to see good tail length. Fifth best was a cream point boy, Sceiron Chevalier, who had a fantastic temperament and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself. He took out my best temperament. He had a great body, and reasonable head type, but needing his ears to come down his head a bit, which may well happen as he gets older and his head broadens, and also I would have liked to see a little more chin development. My best eye colour was Birpur Jean The Mini Bean a pretty tabby point girl. Overall in this section most exhibits had some good qualities but like all kittens were very much ‘works in progress’.
Neuter/Spay Cats The next section I judged was the neuter spay cats and the first exhibit I judged, Gold Dble Gr Pr Moonson Paddington Bear, just blew me away. A really handsome boy, absolutely in his prime with a lovely head, excellent width, a good roman nose, good chin and overall excellent Birman look. His great head type was complemented by a long strong body, tail with great length, and very well marked gloves and gauntlets. He was perfectly groomed with a correct silky coat and his temperament was to die for. I wasn’t surprised to see that he took out Best in Show under all five judges. However the competition was tough in this section with Runner Up BIS going to Gold Dbl Gr Pr Birpur Iza Stunning Chockie, a lovely chocolate tabby point who not only had great head type (in a colour where this can be harder to achieve) but also good body length with a substantial feel, tail balanced this, and she also had well marked gloves and gauntlets. Next in line was my second seal point, Pr Concerto Snow Flake who also ticked all the boxes with good eye colour, roman nose, overall good head proportions, a good solid long body and perfectly groomed beautiful silky coat. I was also impressed with Sandylands I’m Just A Diva, my fourth best in show, once again this lilac point girl had a great body with good gloves and gauntlets. Her pleasing head type was enhanced by her beautiful large expressive eyes. Next was Gold Dble Gr Pr Sandylands Charley, my fifth best. He had a good body and tail, good width across his cheekbones but a little lacking in roman nose, with good eye shape. Overall I was very impressed with the quality of the top exhibits in this section, in particular it was great to see long muscular bodies and tails as well as good head type, giving a balanced cat that truly exemplifies what this breed should be. Neuter/Spay Kittens There were good entry numbers in the neuter spay kitten section with a total of 8 exhibits. My best in show Moonson Mylo was a blue point boy with all round quality, with good width of head, a nice roman nose, good chin, lovely eye colour shape and set, and all this went with a good length of body and tail to balance. He was a smoochy purry boy and took out the award for best temperament in this section. Runner up was Moonson All About Baz, a very good example of a seal boy, whose excellent head type was complemented by a long muscular body. He could have been my Best In Show but had to be marked down a bit as one toe was lacking white. I really liked my third best as well Florencia Shadowfax, a beautifully presented blue point boy with good width, roman nose and chin, and good body length. His eyes were just a bit deeper set and tail a little shorter than the best blue (my BIS). He had well marked gloves and gauntlets and was awarded best gloves and gauntlets and best groomed (though I must say there were several contenders for the latter). My fourth best exhibit, Adorabella Honey Dew Kisses, a blue point spay was another very well groomed exhibit, with good head type but a little lacking in roman nose. Moonson Beaudine followed, my fourth best blue point was a little shorter in body but balanced by his tail. He was carrying a little extra weight which did make his body appear shorter. He was very well groomed and his overall head type was good, but ears a little large at this point (one of those ‘work in progress’ kittens that may well mature into a very good adult). Another exhibit to note was Moonson Zachary who had really beautiful large, expressive, correctly shaped eyes with stunning eye colour - and got my award for best eye colour. Entire Cats Last but not least the Entire Cat section was well supported with excellent entry numbers and a total of 12, yes, count them, 12 seal points to judge, along with a good selection of other colours. So it might seem surprising that my best exhibit was a chocolate point girl Gr Ch Miss Coco Chanel. What appealed to me about this girl was that she was a balanced exhibit with a lovely head, not forgetting a roman nose and a firm chin, but also good body and tail length and good gloves and gauntlets. She was perfectly groomed (and got my best groomed award). Many of the other exhibits had lots of good qualities but were just a bit lacking in one or two aspects. It’s very difficult to assemble all the ingredients in one cat (and I think perhaps especially so in Birmans given the requirement for acceptable gloves and gauntlets) - so this exhibit also got my Breeders Award of Merit in this section. My runner up was, surprise surprise, a seal point male Belzicat Rebels’ Ladd, who had very nice head type with the width of cheekbones, roman nose, and chin, good eye shape and set and a nice body to match, but his tail was a little short. Third best was Sceiron Katara. a seal tortie tabby point, It was pleasing to see the quality of some of the less common colours. This girl was another good all rounder with a substantial feel to her body, good to find in an entire girl, lovely temperament (she got my Best Temperament), and large expressive eyes. Next was Silver Dble Gr Ch Sceiron Raffles, my second best seal point with overall good head type and gorgeous deep eye colour, though I would have liked to see larger eyes, and this boy was let down a little by his grooming. My fifth best was Amoenta Izza Lucky, a seal girl with great temperament, a lovely clear coat albeit with a slightly fluffy feel, good bone and body substance and good head type. Best gloves and gauntlets went to Moonson Florencia who did have perfect markings. In the entire section there were a number of exhibits which were shorter in body and/or tail, most had beautiful eye shape, set and colour and good width of head, often also having good roman noses and chins so for ‘headhunters’ they were lovely exhibits. With the addition of body length and a tail to balance, these would be outstanding cats and hopefully the next generation will have incorporated those features. My judges choice for the entire show was Gold Dbl Gr Ch Moonson Paddington Bear - an outstanding example of the breed and well deserved winner of Supreme Exhibit in show.
Happiness is a Cat!! (A cat free home) Your ornaments are perfect, and the carpets are intact. No smears across the windowpane or a frenzied plant attack. Your garden is so pristine, not a flower out of place. No footprints on the car roof, or felines giving chase. No evidence of cat hair, or snags to cause a fuss. Each knick-knack is unblemished with no tabbies to mistrust. (A home with cats) My ornaments are long gone, all carpets now destroyed. Window panes are quite opaque, the plant pots are devoid. Our garden’s like a jungle, flowers duly squashed. The car is smeared with footprints, despite the fact it’s washed. Clothes are bathed in cat hair, the sofa has some snags. All figurines departed, wrecked by scallwags! So now you have the cat facts, ‘No brainer’ I would l say. I’d rather have the second house, any time of day!!!

I heard a little story, well 2 of them actually, that happened at the Hamilton Birman show My Car Won't Go! At the end of set up Christine was all set to head home. She gets in her car, does up her seat belt and releases the hand brake. The car moves back then stops. She could not get it to move either forward or backwards. She winds down the window and calls out to Linda..."my car won't go". Linda windows down her window, and trying to stifle a laugh “When you released the handbreak it ROLLED backwards....to make it actually GO you have to TURN THE KEY ON!!!!” She's not even blonde (well she is, but its out of a bottle …)
Just after that Linda was driving back to the motel when a car behind her started flashing it's lights at her. I'm not doing anything wrong and no one knows me in Hamilton she thought so I'm not stopping. The car behind kept flashing. Oh no she thought maybe I'm being stalked (wished more like it ). Suddenly her cell phone rang. OMG she thought, how did they get my number and as she was driving she ignored it. She pulled into her motel and the car pulled up beside her. Christine got out and said "I've been trying to get your attention, couldn't you see me and I rang" Oh was that you, what did you want. For other cars to see you in the dark you have to TURN YOUR LIGHTS ON!!!! I guess they were even
